Well, it is an advantage. I find it easier to do a Gold run with a mic, to be honest, even if it's just to give a heads-up when someone it's about to use a missile or something like "there's a phantom coming up behind you".
Oh, naturally. But the theory often sounds better than the reality. If a phantom is right there behind someone, they are usually able to stick their blades through your teammate well before you utter the words of warning. It's similar with missiles: sometimes a window of opportunity arises (say, 3-4 phantoms together in a late wave) that lasts for a very short time - it's usually not long enough for a warning, as one's reaction is usually quicker than any spoken words.
So while I agree in general, I don't really agree that it's any crucial. I have had way too many seamless and "micless" random Gold matches to think otherwise. We'll see how much Platinum changes in that regard.

Vanguards honestly shouldn't really be touched on gold if ur not the hosting player, as glitching out on the map is too much a detriment to the team if its not a buncha reg gold players that can carry 1-2 others.
Not to say that you can't play the class at all off-host, but its not the best idea, solely due to the damn biotic charge bugs [...]
Tell me about it... I had some fun with Phoenix Vanguard, but the last 3 matches out of 5 ended for me with that extremely frustrating glitch. And of course it always has to happen on a wave 9 or 10. If it's a good team I can at least hope that they can carry it to the end, so I won't lose all that invested time and consumables. But sometimes there is no other option than just leave - especially once you fall into that infinite "die=revive" loop far above or below a map.
