And start over.

It doesn't work correctly. It has never worked correctly, and my bet is it NEVER will work correctly. It is an added headache for the developers and for the players. Why bother??? It is better to have no feature than a broken feature. /rant off

I thought about that too. Not a really good reputation if things remaining broken. Its the same if self-acting workers are lending necessary tools from their customers....

I agree that this "feature" needs to be scrapped. While it was a nice idea it doesn't work and they don't seem to be trying to fix it.

It works for me and it seems to work for a lot of other people. Updating was a little sporadic at first but it settled down after a while. For a bonus feature they did not have to include, I'd say I'm fairly happy with it and it may just require a little patience. But with all the money you spend on this site I can see how you could be disappointed that this feature isn't working.

Harbringerr...generally youre right. But for a free gift there should be an option in the game, if you want to use it or not. I have registered my game (like every game owner has done I guess) and now I get hammered with "timeout" each time I startup a game. There is no option to disable this whole <insert a word here>...Tomorrow (I) we will have some visitors at home, a few friends, a small gaming session...Im sure they wanna have a look to a DAO with Timeout error right after the beginning...Quite nice. Without doubt. Lets see how loud their laughs will be. Maybe I dont have to post here again then.

You're absolutely right that you should be able to disable the auto-login. I don't know why they would make that mandatory. I've never tried, but in the options does it work to uncheck 'Upload Profile'? Sorry if you've tried that before but it's the only thing I can think of.

Edit: Oh, and just to let you know, I've been getting the 'Timed-out connecting to Servers' message the last few times I've played.  It didn't happen for the first month of play.  Maybe it's temporary?

After about nine tries, I finally managed to upload my character.

As for the timed out messages; I've gotten them constantly since I started playing in late Nov. I just ignore and relogin periodically to make sure my char info is uploaded.

Yay for buggy software.

Edit: Good thing I read what forum I was in. Please disregard, doh (PC version)

Hi

Yes, I tried disabling both options over there in the options menu. Doesnt work unfortunately. So Im forced to use their ....crap...thats how its called imo. It seems only disabling xbl does help or a new gamertag. perhaps its time to create a new one and playin dao offline without any registration. thats the effort you get when buying a game...man, Im really disappointed due to this. Compared with a pirated copy of this game I dont receive more "gifts" than pirates playing a pirated version....If my copy would be illegal, I wouldnt cry...Well, doesnt help at all. Ill ticket EA again. Maybe they can delete my gamertag off the game.

added: @DarkBlade: How did you do that "re"-logging? I dont have any option to login / logout again. After startup of DAO I get connected automatically to the servers and cant logout anywhere. I wish I could do so.

I'm prompted when I first fire up DA:O to register for EA social site and have a cool tie in feature with the website and the game. The game auto logs in to the servers to update. This does not sound like an optional 'gift' but a feature that incorporates the website with the game adding value to what I did spend money on (the game).

This is a very nice idea in concept however I question the logic of touting a feature that ties the website to the game when the website does not function properly.

What if I led a river rafting tour where at the start of tour I told everyone to sign up for a service that would present them with pictures of their rafting adventure? Then serveral times during the rafting I mention this service. Then when when the rafting adventure is done only 4 people out of the 200 people I took rafting have pictures that are correct. Do you think some of those 196 that have incorrect pictures might complain?

Videogamers as a consumer market can be the perfect dupes sometimes. Many of us will make excuses for the companies that deliver products that do not always work correctly. Very interesting.

By the way I love this game and so will continue to enjoy it I just don't understand why this obviously untested feature is advertised in my game, my game manual, and on this site when they very clearly cannot get the feature to work properly.

Hence, scrap it, and start over.

You guys know absolutely nothing about game development, and you giving advice on whether to scrap a feature or fix bugs in it makes about as much sense as a lemur designing a rocket engine.

Being able to switch it off would have been extremely simple to implement.

Being an apologist for faulty features shows how much you know about product presentation. Game development does not 'get a pass' just because they make games. Sorry.

I don't want the feature scrapped.

I do want all of the issues fixed - with an option to delete all the data and start over so I can get at least one complete set of Achievement and Story screenshots and related stuff.

This is a very nice analogy.

The only problem is that is that you have several prominent
rafting magazines referring to the rafting trip as:

"..One of the most addictive and expansive of its
kind"

"..9/10"

"Best of 2009"

"..an incredible experience.."

"ect."

So... Basically the guys who have the largest pull with the
consumer (aka "cronies"), are telling the consumer to buy the game
regardless of its current and growing flaws.

Still, this is a very nice analogy and it might actually play on the heartstrings of DA dev...
