Hello guys

I wondered whether you thought the female/female romances or the male/male romances were handled better in the three games.

By this I mean who did you think were the best options for them. Were the F/F romances more interesting/more provided for  than M/M, and vice versa.

F/F will take into account: Liara (yes, she is female, so shep would be considered a lesbian if she romanced her), Kelly, (Samara/Morinth), Samantha, Diana Allers

M/M will take into account: Kaidan, Cortez

My opinion is that, while the M/M kaidan romance is very well done, I do feel it is a bit unfair that they only got 2 as opposed to F/F's 4, and so the gay broshep's had the short end of the romance stick.

I think the guy that you can romance as male sheppard is kinda messed up.  His husban just died horribly at the start and he is completely traumatised by it through out the game.    I don't know,  it just seems like a wierd love interest to me.    Everyone else who sheppard can romance and is mess up had things long in the past that they've had time to deal with.

Because we all know that romances are worthless unless they result in children, right?

I disagree with your characterization of ME1 Liara Quething. If you're mean to Liara she won't be as sweet and naive. And the Shadow Broker was very mean.

I don't particularly enjoy the Liaramance btw. I'm all for Samantha!

Well, Liara is bioware's canon romance, so of curse its the best :P

I consider neither of those statements true.

Liara is canon.

There is no canon. This has been said many times.

Then why did bioware give it more content across all three games than any other romance?

Read the codex. 'All asari are genetically female'

We also call them 'she' not 'it'

All asari are female.

And liara F/F will also give you kids.

Well, I think of ME romances as of serious relationships, and yeah, those usually result in children (again, usually). But hey, that's just me having a little spare time and having nothing better to do than sitting on the bsn.

"Favoured" is not the same as "canon". Otherwise Synthesis would be canon.

I strongly disagree.

It got the most content, and the best individual scenes. The LotSB cabin tour was miles above even the ME1 sex scenes, which were miles beyond any of the base ME2 scenes (and poor Traynor's out-of-nowhere nevernude shower seduction). She's there for you from the start of 3 and every one of the stupid little kid nightmares, and gets the best-written and most resource-intensive farewell at the FOB. No question the devs favored it.

But to be a good romance you also have to look at it in its entirety, and in its entirety it makes no sense because Liara's character arc makes no sense. ME3 did a reasonable job of finding a happy medium between naive, sweet, shy, utter paragon ME1 Liara and hardcore woman-on-the-edge vengeance-mad cold-blooded killer ME2 Liara, but by then it's too late, character coherence is already broken.

I wish I could enjoy it. It's nice to have the canon romance be available to the female PC for once (no, I'm not still pining for Bastila, why do you ask? ). But honestly it's about as consistent across the three games as the last ten minutes of ME3. The best-written romances are IMO Garrus, Kaidan and Tali, in roughly that order, which is kind of hard on those of us who consider them all bros and would rather hook up with Ash or Thane or Miranda. :?

Liara was coming through hard time in her life. When it was over she went back to her former self, but kept some darker, more adult traits. How is that incoherent? People change, especially at Liara's age - she's still a maiden, isn't she?

The romances were all shhite and you know it. Outside of romance-specific dialog, there was no indication you were even a couple. Couples who are dating tend to touch each other causally - not just when they're banging or when reunited.

I should have had physical contact with Liara every time I went to her cabin if we were dating, and every time we were alone together. And have you seen Shepard's ass? There is no excuse for why no LI ever tried to grab it.

The lack of casual physical contact while dating is a super-strong indication that they don't really like you, and it totally broke the romances for me.

I didn't feel shafted by the paucity of M/M romance because I'm bisexual and don't care.  If they had excluded M/F... that probably would have irritated me, depending on how well done the M/M one was (it would have to be The Greatest Romance Ever to make up for the lack of long-term baby-making potential and an eternity without boobies).

This.

And it's not like "HEY LIARA, LET'S GET IT ONNN" after Thessia... It's that these relationships are so cold unless you're in one of the three instances you have a "romantic moment", or epiphany you're actually in a relationship, in ME3.

I dont get bioware's obsession with asses.

First both brosheps and femshep's asses are great to look at, then miranda, then tali, then kasumi, then jacob, then me3 ashley.

Maybe they do this to appease the ass overlords; EA.

EA is -just- FULL of asses

I think Kelly continued into ME3 was good, Traynor decent not really much of a build up, M/S were both crap, Allers ... well the Ardat Yakshi was at least hot, Liara was also good, so F/F if you pick the right options I think is pretty good. There are Two M/M and both are good I think Kaiden was dead for me, but on my Male Shep I romanced Tali but followed Cortez's through till the dancing which at that point I said, that hey we're friends but I'm straight. What I loved about his writing is Cortez laughs and says something like, "wouldn't have it any other way" and they just kinda chill. I actually really liked Cortez's plot. And just in case people care to know I'm straight.

Krysae is a gun from ME3 multiplayer. It supposed to be a Turian name, and Turian names are based somewhat on latin. But there is "k" in latin, just "c" replaced it in almost every circumstance. Still, there are few words written with "k" anyway.

I don't know. For some of them, it makes sense to keep things fairly discreet - you are violating regulations if you date Kaidan or Ashley in ME1, and again in ME3. Liara's the only one you could date without obvious legal repercussions.

But I do agree, the lack of casual contact was a little disappointing... but it's called a romantic subplot for a reason. It's not the main point for the games, even if we feel that it's one of the driving motivations for the characters.

That said... I don't particularly care what the genders of the people involved were. They don't really matter. What matters is the trust, affection, and joy that they have with each other. Whichever relationship conveys those things more clearly is "better" in my eyes.

I've gone through Kaidan's, Liara's, Tali's, and Garrus'. I'm personally most partial to Liara's, but that's more because I'm a fan of her character development over the course of the games. I also think she gets the most content of the four.

The only reason why lesbian couples are more prominant in "the real world" (dun dun dun), is because straight guys don't give a damn and/or actively encourage it but god forbid a guy loving another guy...

tl;dr that line of thinking is stupid.

This, and which of those is "better" is up to the individual. I personally cannot fathom how you can prefer Liara over, say, Garrus (if femshep), but hey if thats what you want then i ain't going to stop you.

Garrus' extreme awkwardness bothered me, a bit. It definitely fit his character, and it was incredibly well done - I just didn't enjoy as much. I liked how... direct... Liara was in the first game, and watching her develop as a character throughout the series was wonderful. The whole "Shepard, I'm... interested in you" line was awkward, too, but
simply because she was violating my social expectations of behavior,
not because of a huge amount of personal embarassment. I thought it was
adorable, and, well, things went on from there. With Garrus I just wanted to say "GO HUG HER YOU BIG TURIAN OAF, SHE'S HURTING, SHE LOVES YOU, AND SHE NEEDS A FRIEND."

It's the same reason I'm not a huge fan of most romantic movies - they
generally involve people miscommunicating and suffering for it. I take a fairly direct approach with people. I don't enjoy stories where the central conflict falls apart if the protagonist and antagonist could talk all their problems out over a cup of coffee in five minutes. They just strike me as silly. Now, I understand why people act like that, I just don't enjoy watching people hurt themselves - or the people they care about - because of it.
