Frankly, I can not believe how they treated Udina in this game. His sudden betrayal betrayed all sense of logic and reason. Udina's not the kind of politician who would turn to Cerberus just because the situation grew desperate. It doesn't make any sense. The Cerberus coup could not have accomplished anything besides turning the other races against humanity at best. This was a character assassination created only for the unthinking crowd who could think no further than "I hate Udina. Udina should die". He was a good character, and now, because of a 15 minute plot point he's a stupid character. A stupid, dead character.

They did kind of throw Udina under the bus.

I actually agree.

I even made him Councillor.

Logical, stressed, and pragmatic. Words to describe Udina.

Poor guy.

Hackett. Nobody could conceivably be that awesome.

I was actually starting to like Udina, and then someone spiked his coffee with a shot of instant douche.

No, he really wasn't. He was a joke from Day 1.

I consider that thing more of a horrid plot device than a character.

No, he was always a good character. Just because he wasn't likeable or disagreed with and impeded your Shepard doesn't mean he wasn't a good character.

If you complain and ask how, I am sure there are still pieces of sovereign laying around somewhere.

No, the fact that everything he said was so ridiculous that I was constantly laughing at him was what made him not a good character.

Kind of like Jacob's romance scene.

Any specifics?

"Send your fleet in!"
"He can't say that! It's not his decision!"
"I've had it with this Council and its anti-human bull-"

Come to think of it, it wasn't really his lines so much as it was his over-the-top voice acting. If his voice was better I probably could have taken him more seriously.

Catalyst, really. They would have done themselves a huge favor by not making him that kid.

Something neutral in appearance, and brainless beyond its core functioning.

I hardly see those quotes, or the voice acting, as unintentionally hilarious. But I guess some people have poor senses of humor.

Yeah, that was a good one too. Way to make a first impression, Udina.

Because people who find things funny, which you don't, have a "poor" sense of humor.

Well, his betrayal made as much sense as Cerebrus' sudden invasion of the Citadel with its new found Super Army.

Yes, I agree that was also nonsensical. Probably the least believable event, provided we suspend disbelief for the deus ex machina of the Crucible.

It would have been really cool if they explored the idea that sometimes having a "sleazy" politician like Udina on your side could have its benefits. Seeing Udina actually use his political skills to aid the galactic war effort would have been awesome, even if some of his actions were not agreeable. I think it would have allowed players to develop a begruding respect for him at the very least.
What's done with him in ME3 is just lazy writing and feels like fanservice for all the people who constantly whined about how much they hated Udina because he didn't sycophantically worship the ground Shepard walked on.

Yeah, Odina was a spineless **** and we hated him, but there is a bid difference between being a politician and a--- terrorism suporting, end of the galaxy super-traitor.

Edith:

I didn't believe he actually worked for Cerberus to the very end.

I was sooo SURE that that Cerberus / or who ever, plotted against him, so Shepard would whipe him out and do the dirty work for others, who wanted to see him out of the way.

Couldn't believe it when he actually pulled a gun ... so out of character...
