James Vega

There was absolutly no reason to randomly throw in an entirely new squad mate this deep into shepard's story. Honestly I might have found as much use out of the secruity chief from the citadel as a squad mate as I did him.

How is he not believable?

It is actually quite believeable that you might have someone new on the Normandy and some of your previous companions are off doing their own things. People just don't tend to like Vega. I thought he was ok.

Just because it was believable doesn't make it good storytelling.

Agreed. I would replace Allers and Vega and Cortez and Javik and Traynor with ME2 characters but my only point is that it is believeable.

The only thing I found "unbelievable" about Vega was his odd spanglish. Bilingual people don't simply throw random words from their native language into conversation. It would have been cool to hear Freddie Prinze Jr. voice a few sentences in spanish (maybe with Cortez...), but his manner of speaking just took me out of the game and made me think of some writer somewhere who really, really needed to consult with actual spanish speakers before finishing Vega's dialogue.

Frankly, a lot of characters experienced some form of character assassination. Whether it be Ashley's sudden love for high heels and miniskirts, Udina's backstabbing betrayels, TIM's retardation or Shepard's fixation on a meaningless child's death and his sudden lack of a spine or memory (how does he forget about peace between the geth and quarians at the very moment where it counts?) while confronting the enemy at the end. It's honestly hard to pick one.

wait, Didn't Ashley say in the first game you wouldn't be getting her into thigh high boots and miniskirts?

THEY CONTRADICTED HER!

No. She says the only way would be getting her dinner first.

her rank changed and so did her "outfit" shes lieutenant commander williams, shes respectable now..?

Vega was doing better for me until he started staring at Shepard's breasts whilst she was having a conversation with him. "Don't treat your commanding officer like sweater meat" seems like the kind of thing they'd cover in boot camp.

In all seriousness though, they really did assassinate her character.

How? She had questions for Shepard after shepard worked for Cerberus when Cerberus had inside access to an alliance facility. She cared about her family's safety sincce they were on Earth and she defended the council even against Shepard who appaeared to be a threat to their safety, part of a Spectre's job is to protect the counci. She did her job no matter what, stayed an Alliance soldier through and through, and cared about her family. That's ashley's character. you wanna talk about character assasination, look at Jacob Taylor and Thane Krios.Posted Image

I understand Jacob (with knocking up that woman) but what about Thane? He seemed like he had a decent character arc with his son and dying heroically. Then again I've never romanced him.

I'd agree with you if this was Mass Effect 2, she seemed a little schizophrenic in that game.

Not only that but they did it in 6 months between ME2 and ME3. Remember that at the end of ME2, EDI tells you exactly how large Cerberus is and it is no more than a half a dozen task oriented cells that the Illusive Man can supervise personally. I think the way they handled Cerberus was pretty botched in ME3 because they lose their ambiguity. In the 1st game they are bad guys. In the 2nd game you find that maybe there's more to them. In the third game you find out Nope they were 100X worse than you thought.

I call that ADD writing. As you said Shepard went from killing evil Cerberus members in ME1, to being shoehorned into working for them in ME2 after Shepard's 'resurrection' (because they're not so bad!), and then you find out Shepard was indeed a moron after all in ME3 for working for Cerberus.

And they had to drag Udina down in ME3 too.

What's worse is that in one of the recent books/comics Cerberus was all but wiped out by the Turians.

Kai Leng was a poorly constructed character, I'd say Javik was the least believable based on his species extinction. That doesn't change the fact that he was one of my favorites.

I think his actions are believable. He's just a ridiculously cliched, anime-esque, cut scene god, which makes him a bad character. Nothing he does is necessarily out of character.

Part of his character his childishly taunting Shepard. You got the email right?

Regardless, nothing he does is Udina-level stupidity.

The email is a bit of a character break for him too. About as bad as the peeing in flower vases.

I can't think of Kai Leng without his response to Shepard taunting him.

"SHUT UP."
