My 360 controller is haunted.  My main character seems to move around on his own.  At first I thought it was that the controller was too sensitive, so I turned the in-game sensitivity controls all the way down, but it did not help.  It's like the controller is registering movement on the stick even when I'm not touching it.  This especially makes combat difficult, because if I use the radial menu to issue a command, for instance a channeled spell (the Warden shapeshifting in the Fade), the spell will get interrupted, because the character moves.  Sometimes, I'll highlight an enemy and press A to attack, only to watch my character run right by them and into a wall.  Mind you it's not all the time, but often enough.

Has anybody seen this behavior?  I'm wondering if I should just try another controller; unfortunately, I only have one right now...

Are you serious? I never had such problem, so it's either a faulty Disc or something else to add to the bug lists of DA;O

Never seen this happen, myself. Try another controller if you can. Might also try moving your console if you can, testing with other games, etc. It doesn't sound like a game bug or glitch, though.

I was using a pad i''d had for a good few years and it was doing the excact same thing, i changed pads to another wireless one ive hardly touched and it hasnt done it since :) I figure its the left analog stick just starting to get wear and tear.

To be fair though it has had about a million different games using it as a 'sprint' button (Modern warfare etc) and i honestly believe thats why mine was dodgy lol. Just thought id let you know that. ;)

A faulty disk would mean the game would not start up in the first place.

Not really, I remember the Halo 3:ODST...faulty CD's that allowed you to play the first portion before messing everything up and being unplayable.

But perhaps you're right, a second controller should be good to test-drive things.

Mine does this as well. Same results on both wireless controllers, one of which is only a month old. Certainly annoying when casting a huge spell, or exiting the inventory only to have my character turn and run directly at the camera. Most other games seem fine.

Did have the same problem in fallout 3 too - same direction and everything. I'd open my map, and it would start zooming in... this is what prompted me to drop 60 bucks on a new one.

Never heard of this wireless interference thing though... off to research!

Mine does this too, I was using a brand new out of the box controller at 1st and I thought, well I just got ripped off. I put my old controller in and it does the same thing. I wondered if it was a "feature" to make nightmare tougher? I only play on nightmare so....

It's not just you guys, it only happens to me with this game and this game alone, my character will suddenly decide he wants to run left for no reason what-so-ever. Realllly annoying as any char, my melee guy will run away from his target for no reason so i'll keep having to spam A and my mage will cancel any spell that's not instant-cast.

It has nothing to do with your neighbors or anything like that, I play at hours noone near me is even awake at and it still does it all the time.

I've used 2 different controllers same result, there's something in the programming in this game that tells a char to run left at random intervals.

I'm on playthrough 4, not including several Origins/Ostagar plays and I've NEVER had this happen.

mine does it too. really sucks in combat when you start attacking and your character moves away or starts to circle. i have gotten used to it and i always stay on my stick in combat to regain control quickly. i wish ALL the problems in this game were this easy to deal with...

I don't have a Xbox but I don't think the problem is with the game but with your controller or it's configuration. I figure maybe there's a wireless channel problem and it needs to be changed or the joystick is just faulty.

I have the same problem when playing as my rogue, but not with my mage class. I believe it must be when the radical interface is being used to attack or cast a spell. It happens to me much more often then.

Ive Read some of these last examples, i Have the same issues that 'Lex' and 'Shiney167' are currently having. it's weird but only happens so often.

Normally I'd agree, if it happened on any other game then this one. Only happens with this game, so lets narrow it down and say it's a problem with the game lol

Been playing borderlands and assassin's creed 2 alot lately, using same x-box, same controller, no problems what-so-ever with my char randomly wanting to face left/move left.

I also tried switching controllers, new batteries, etc. The random run while fighting or casting or trying to target someone for a conversation and having your team-mates follow and get in the way is a bear.

Out of combat I don't care as much, however, in combat I would prefer all the screw-ups to be mine alone.

This is a coding error that need to get fixed and hopefully will in the needed update.

I know with joystik games, you have to set its deadzone. Doesnt this game have something? I play with mouse and cant say there is a option for me but worth a try.

The devs had to have known this issue prior to shipping the game. This is unacceptable!
