Something I've almost always wanted to play is something that's a complete genre mix. I'd like to be able to tell units where to go (RTS) and then take control of one of the infantry men just commanded (in a first or third person perspective). It would be huge in scope. You'd be able to look around and see massive armies and you'd be one of them. Within all of this there would be player choice to increase replayability and involvement/immersion. Sequels would take these choices into account and provide drastic differences in the story (a story which would be filled with fantastic characters). Multiplayer wouldn't be required but if it was there, I'd like the ability to create maps and bots and what have you.

Of course, this is impossible, but... AMBITION!

So my question to everyone: Is there a game idea that you've always wanted to see but technological limitations will prevent it from ever seeing the light of day? Or perhaps is there a game idea that would work today but you doubt you'll ever see it? Or has your dream game already been made? If so, what is it?

This a bit of a messy post but... hi.

An rpg where the writers have written so many different playstyles and outcomes that you can literally play the game any way you want, and also it will have graphics on par with CGI game trailers at all times and legendarily excellent gameplay.

Plus a writing team comprising of from Chris Avellone, Dave Grossman, Erik Wolpaw, Marc Laidlaw (not to be confused with Mike Laidlaw), Yuichiro Tanaka, Tim Schafer and a couple of the writers from CDPR (I forget their names sadly).

Is this unreasonable? Yup. Would it be a the best thing since fire or a complete disaster? Idk but idgaf.

Or a realistic idea: I'd like an rpg with a big focus on crafting like Vagrant Story with a NG+ for extended fun like Disgaea. Basically western story teling and eastern style gameplay. Anachronox was great but the combat really didn't get challenging until much later but it's a good idea of what I'd like to see a mashup of two completely styles.

My answer is precisely the same to what I'd like to see from BioWare: A modern RPG that takes place in-and-out of a high school setting. Instead of putting stats into strength/int/etc., they would be more broad choices like verbose: This can affect your skills not only in classes(i.e. English or the Dramatic Arts), but in real life as well through conversational abilities and more action-related chocies. However, any type of "Level Ups" would be contextual - experience is not gained on a consistent basis by killing/talking to whoever for the 50th time. It would be a bit like V:tmB, where experience through recurring blood-lust does not exist.

You could essentially view the conversational choices as Paragon/Renegade, but those choices would not affect your ability to make future choices in the same vein that Mass Effect took with reputation or what have you. It would consist either of resisting temptation, or resisting authority. I would hence call the game Resist.

And yes, romance would be available. It's high school, after all. I'd want them to feel like real romances, though. Something that gave both the good and bad, and didn't just feel like a railroad trip to getting inside their pants. dats kinna pervy tbh. There have to be many opportunities(at least early on) to fumble in a relationship, just like you would in real life.

I wouldn't want it to just be "The High School RPG", it'd have to have all sides of living with a family. It'd have to be relatively open-world, probably more along the lines of V:tmB, Arcanum, or anything Troika did. I don't think I'd add Exam/Test minigames with the quantity Bully did. I like the idea, but something like that has to be done in very minute modicums. So it would fall somewhere between Heavy Rain, Bully, American Beauty, V:tmB, and my own personal insanity.

I don't expect to see this in retail anytime soon. Looking at my list of favorite games of the current generation, only a handful of them really qualify as "Ambitious". I still greatly enjoyed some and found them highly entertaining, but the following rest heavily on the laurels of a previous sequel or similar games: ME2/3, Assassins Creed 2(and Above), MGS4, and Skyrim as examples.

But hey, there's only one thing to do if your dream game isn't out there yet:

Go out there and make it.

That's because the majority of "Romances" in high school don't qualify as genuinely romance - that's an amalgamation of hormones & sexual attraction. Would you define those relationships as real romance? I mean, if the long-term goal is that for 4 years and just vamoosing to college, followed by "moving on" to someone else, that is not romance. Or at least, if that's the player's full intention from the get go. I'd want to write that one possible romance that, at the very least, would enter "Highschool Sweetheart" status, or preferably longer. It's a good question how realistic that could be to flesh out, though. To avoid derailing the thread entirely to my own ideas, I'll leave it at that.

Darklands 2 with more world reactivity. More individual NPCs with depth wouldn't hurt either.

Wasteland 2 might be a good enough substitute though.

Replace BioWare with CD Projekt Red and I would be a lot more interested.

You mean a game with an incompetent writing and a poor branching narrative?

Sure, if that is what you want.

The conclusion or another part of the Legacy of Kain series. It seems very unlikely that it will ever come back. My only hope lies with Eidos(they did bring back Thief and Deus Ex after all but who knows).

Poor branching narrative would actually be a step up from what BW churns out.

Sadly that is up to Sega which Avellone has said many times they aren't interested.

I couldn't even finish that game because the battle system was so stupid.

The battle system is the highlight of the game.
