Few games are funny. Fewer games are funnier the entire way through. This is the only game where I just can't wait to hear what my sarcastic ass Hawke has to say. i was literally waiting for people to finish talking so I could be a smart-ass. This was one of the best innovations they put in this game. Bravo!

Because it's damn funny, that's why.

I wouldn't really call it an innovation. I mean they did that with Commander Shepard in ME, apparently.

I think it would be correct to say, "Sarcastic Hawke might have the greatest dialogue, in games."

I prefer Diplomatic Hawke, but I have to admit, I still pick the sarcastic option frequently.

Of course, sometimes s/he comes off as an ass. I'm certain that someone is going to mention the "It's getting late" line before this thread hits Page 2.

This thread won't reach Page 2. No offence to sUiCiDeKiNgS13, but it's just not gonna happen. At best, you'll get chitchat-like responses from people. Such as our replies.

If it does, then, well, it won't be an interesting thread, to read or otherwise.

I almost always play Sarcastic Hawke in all of my playthroughs. I love being a tactless jackass. If anything, DA2 didn't go far enough in that regard.

I always tell myself that I'm going to play a different kind of Hawke this playthrough.

And then I always end up with sarcastic Hawke. I was just playing Mark of the Assassin, and I laughed pretty much the entire way through it. Sarcastic Hawke is the best.

Sarcastic Hawke is awesome, but he has nothing on Suave Michael Thorton.

First time I played DA2, I played a diplomatic Hawke, just to be nice.
Then I tried sarcastic Hawke and now I can't go back. Hawke is so mean but funny. I really hope the have a sarcastic character again in DA3

It's not exactly innovation. The Warden had plenty of sarcastic lines too, it's just they weren't voiced.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Hawke's brand of humour or line delivery. (There are many different ways to be snarky, and Hawke just sounds like a painfully silly, awkward feather-head to me.) Silly!Hawke is basically the only personality with any sort of sarcasm or humour though, so it's my favourite by default.

First time Hawke sees Anders turn into Justice -"What did you do Anders. Not the fade part, but the angry glowy bit". Couldn't stop laughing

Sarcasm is the greatest inovation in the world and I was incredible happy that I could play a sarcastic protagonist. It got even better when adding Varric and Isabela in the mix.

I really did appreciate that my Hawke could speak a bit more like how I do in real life...

The 'Wounded Coast' tirade when you do the slaver quest was my favourite.

"Wounded Coast... I wonder if that's near the Injured Cliffs... or the Limping Hills... the Massive Head-Trauma Bay. ... No one? .... Just me? ... Forget I said anything."

Someone else is wearing the same outfit as me??
FASHION DISASTER!!!

The lines with Serendipity and the Seneschal were hilarious as well.

He's hilarious. But i can't take the game seriously when playing with such a character. Sarcastic Hawke basically made fun of the entire mage and templar debate, which was intended to be a serious issue in the game. The contrast was extremely jarring.

Yeah, only sometimes I didn't know they weren't sarcastic until the NPC's reactions.  There were a couple of times I thought I was being snarky to Leliana ("Omigod, I love shoes too!") only to find out it was apparently totally sincere.

They were fantastic.  The visit to the de Launcets is one of my favorites in the game.

Sarcastic Hawke could be a flippant ass sometimes, but generally was pretty hysterical.

That's the reason I'm in favor of maintaing the "mood" icons on the dialogue wheel. I had a similar reaction many times in DA:O. I thought I was being serious, turned out to be sarcastic. Thought I was being funny, turned out to be cruel. Thought I was being kind, turned out to be patronizing.

And the opposite is true:

Crazy Leliana: 'Did you know your eyelids flutter when you dream? And you have such pretty eyelashes.'
My Creeped Out Warden: 'Er... m-my eyelashes?'
Crazy Leliana: 'Mmhmm. They're like little butterflies... I want to catch them and keep them in a jar.'
My Creeped Out Warden: 'I knew last night was a bad idea. You're all crazy now.'

And she just laughed!! At that point I was seriously thinking 'omg dump her and get it on with Morrigan - at least she's openly crazy' but sadly all that happened was that I got approval points... <_<

So irl when someone misinterprets you, does that interpretation retroactively change your intent?

In real life you have the option to clarify your intent. That generally isn't allowed in games.

Yeah I really loved sarcastic mode. There are points where he comes off kind of crazy too depending on the situation which is interesting. I played Hawke with the dominant sarcastic trait for cut scenes and sprinkled in the other 2 tones depending on what was happening and it was a lot of fun :)

Young girl - Sirra, can you help me
Hawke - Don't worry. Helping people and killing people is what I'm good at.
Young girl - Uh, I uh, hope killing wont be necessary.
