Hey All,
So after messing around with worldmap.xls and following the
http://social.biowar...hp/Map_tutorial tutorial, I have run out of ideas.
1)I can get a map I created in GIMP to appear in the toolset, but it doesn't load in game. I suspect the dimensions or something is off and that is the cause. I don't know what the dimensions are for maps, so if anyone does that'd be a great help.
2) So I've been using maps already in game as place holders while editing worldmap.xls 2da as specified in the above tutorial. Editing the world map sheet in this 2da seems to work just fine, the target waypoints sheet however, that's where the problem is.
3)target way points in this 2da when edited doesn't work. If I try to use it the characters just teleport to the correct area, but off the map in some abyssal space. The only work around I have found is to use the override on the map pins themselves which entirely defeats the purpose of the worlmaps.xls 2da target way point sheet. This more than anything seems to be the most problematic.
Anyone really good or had luck with implementing maps and the tutorial referenced above?
Thanks again,
~Lucrane

1) Make sure your map is saved as a DDS file. I believe 8-bit with explicit alpha works well - you use the alpha map to define which parts are visible, like a layer mask in Photoshop. That way you can get nice soft minimap edges instead of the harsh ones that appear otherwise. PNGs don't work well in my experience.
Also, be sure to have multiple copies of your map with the following suffixes:
_cs-cz
_de-de
_en-us
_es-es
_fr-fr
_hu-hu
_it-it
_pl-pl
_ru-ru
This will ensure your map shows up properly for people who are using different region versions of the game.
3) Yep, I found I had to override the waypoints as well (which is why some of my maps in Thirst have multiple exits/entries but you only ever arrive at one). I can't think of a work-around, although you could override all the travel events and make the player spawn at the appropriate waypoint based on the original location.
