I loved the melee combat in DA:O it just felt more engaging especially when we pulled a finishing move. However I was disappointed by DA 2's repetitive arcade style fighting especially when there was no stylish finishing moves to spice the action up. That said I did prefer DA 2s mage/ranged combat

It's kinda funny that DA:O was one of the first games I played with slow motion finishing moves, and now all the other RPGs seems to use it, and are praised for it, while Bioware decided to remove it...

But yeah, I'm hoping for a return of the finishing moves. The only problem in DA:O was that it could disturb the pace of combat when your character was stuck in a finishing animation while the fight was still going on. But I still think that should be easy to solve, like only triggering a finishing move for the last enemy standing in each encounter.

I agree. There was just something special about them and it was great seeing your companions get them too

I just found the ogre jump kill annoying in the middle of battle, end of battle, like against the High Dragon, was nice. Quick slashes or beheadings were fine.

Let's hope they add them again then in DA3 - With finishers for us mages too. Prefferably like in the DA2 trailer against the qunari.

The slow motion was annoying if you were still fighting a monster with it going on...

They could fix that problem by doing a cutscene finishing move for some of the biggest bosses or they could make the finishing moves only happen for certain solo bosses. The finishing move for the high dragon did not bother people because there were no other enemies.

I didn't mind the slowmotion... It was that rare it didn't slow overall combat down. Besides I found it epic seeing a companion finish an ogre off in the background and see my own attack on slowmo

The slowmotion started to get a bit silly right at the end of the game, when Ogres were no longer big deals.

I personally dislike the beheading moves. They seem gratuitous.

Other stuff was cool.

I was glad when Skyrim added them. In either game they are not perfect and at times fire off at the wrong time, but I wouldn't want the games to not have them.

ps - Skyrim's arrow kill cam is freakin awesome.

Did you call your Skyrim character "Bard"? Bard beat Smaug with one arrow to the chest ;P epic.

I find out in DA:O finishing move is different according to graphic resolution, i play fist with low graphic computer, then i buy new computer with high graphic, i play again with high graphic, i got different finishing move.

i do miss finishing move of DA:O, in DA2 only have cut scene when fighting boss, that is not satisfying.

i hope in DA3 there is finishing move again and for archer too...make it like The Matrix bullet time or something...oh yeah, like Fallout

yes, loved the DA:O finishing moves (even the long slow ogre ones). I hope they make it back into DA3.

Hey, why wait for finishing moves when you can have "awesome" with every button push?

I miss the finishing moves too, they could be fun. I even enjoyed trying to snap screenshots during some of them in DA:O.

It was pretty cool watching my Warden finish off a high dragon... I remember the last battle with the Archdemon, tortuously whittling down it's health, getting poised to fire off a finishing move... then Zevran steals it.

I wanted to kill him.

I liked the decapitations from Origins, but hated when my warden would be stabbing an ogre while fighting was still going on.  As long as the finishing moves don't take my character away from the combat, I'm all for them returning.

I'm assuming you don't mean the arrow kill cam that misses the enemy and doesn't do damage, let alone kill them?  Just kidding...

I'm also a fan of the arrow kill cams (that do connect), especially when you shoot someone off of a bridge from a mile away and get to see them fall.

It would have been nice if decapitations weren't tied to a perk.

When I fight the Queen of the Blackmarsh in Awakening, I'll turn off everyone's tactics and make them do nothing, just so my warden gets the kill.  I like that Hawke always gets to finish off the High Dragon, even if they weren't the one that got the last hit.

I found finishing moves in any game annoying.
I find them as annoying as people who dance after every small victory.

Yeah, I pretty much ended up doing the same thing in DA:O And DA:A. It's a pain when the followers get the glory, but sometimes I let them have it. Posted Image

I think that's why Bioware removed them but as you and others have said, they could return if they are quick finishing moves such as decapitations. Other finishing moves which take longer could be saved for the last enemy in a group and even then, it could be random like it was in DA:O so you don't always perform a finishing move on every last enemy in a group.

I personally didn't have a problem with the ogre finishing moves and I just lol'd when my character was performing them against every ogre near the end. To me it kinda showed how great my character was at that point.

In conclusion:

Bring back the finishing moves. Realistic dismemberment is better than bodies exploding. When playing the rogue class in Dragon Age 2 there was just so much lolz especially when I kicked someone once and they exploded. That's just silly.

Sure, but not the finishing moves for the Ogre or just with out the slomo.
But, I play mage characters, anyway.

I recall when fighting the first ogre at the top of the tower that I had stripped all the armor off the added NPC's so I could just sell it later.  Well the ogre fight there went as normal but then all the sudden the ogre went into the kill-cam mode.  Lo and behold it was the naked NPC, an old man with a long grey beard, doing the final blow.  I literally clapped and shouted Hurrah!  Wish I could have took that guy with me...

If they bring back finishing moves then mages will need finishing moves. At least for bosses. I remember Awakening had The Warden killing The Mother in different ways based on their class. A mage would charge up a spell and set it upon her killing her instantly whereas the rogue and warrior would stab The Mother but in different ways from one another.
