States ME3 pre-EC is the best game he's ever played.
Says he loves Mass Effect for it's lore.

Seems legit.

He's got another opinion than you. So?

C'mon, do you not believe in the IT because it makes more sense (lorewise) than the face value endings?

Not really. I believe in the IT because of it being IMO a very well-made theory with a lot of interesting points. The face-value endings bothered me a lot, but not to the extent that I would hang on to a theory out of pure denial.

Also, that still doesn't mean you should ridicule him just for having a different opinion than you.

First of all, it was a joke. Clearly based on my objective experience of the ME3 ending, probably should have stated that...

Despite how good of a theory IT is/was (I believed in it for a long time too), the basis is, you were bothered by the face value endings.

Yeah I was, but it wasn't the catalyst that made me believe in the IT, as it has been for many other people.

I'll pm you to not further delay this topic.

I'm putting in a vote for Planescape: Torment as well.

If ME2/3 had a better ending, I might actually put it first - but it's hard to put it in perspective, as I just finished it. Though I have to admit that I cried more in ME2/3 than any other game I've played.

Then it gets a little murky - but I am guessing Baldur's Gate, Ultima 7 and Civilization (the original).

But it's been so long since playing U7 that it's hard to know how it would really rank nowadays.

If I made a list ME3 probably wouldn't be in the top ten. 1 and 2 would though.

ME3 wouldn't make the top 20, let alone the top 10, if i made a list. Greatest game of all time? Arma 2, which will be superseded by Arma 3 later this year.

It will be glorious.

Depends on the phase of my life. If I had to make a more or less chronological list:

UFO: Enemy Unknown (X-COM)
Final Fantasy VI (six)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Vandal Hearts
Baldur's Gate
Resident Evil
Neverwinter Nights (for the multiplayer persistant worlds)
World of Warcraft (during the first two years or so, when the game wasn't for everyone)
Dragon Age: Origins
Mass Effect Trilogy

I doubt ME3 would make my top 50 frankly. Even not counting the endings, it's a hollow, disappointing shell of a game compared to its predecessors.

My personal top five:

1) Mass Effect 2. Damned near flawless IMO, only thing 3 did better was the combat, and that wasn't a vital thing to impove anyway.
2) Majora's Mask. I know Ocarina is more popular, and for good reason, but once you get about half way through the sheer joy of what you can do with those masks was amazingly fun. And the ending, if you put the effort in to do everything and get the Fierce Deity mask was the most satisfying gaming experience I've ever had.
3) Ocarina of Time. Like I said; with good reason.
4) Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Still the high point of the series for me, with innovations and improvements that have bizarrely been absent from almost every game since. Even the awful controls were balanced by the ability to dodge attacks, and with its branching story paths and unlockables it has some of the best replay value of any game I've ever played.
5) Tomb Raider 2. Getting really dated as it is, it's still the best plot, story and level design wise of the whole Tomb Raider series..

After that it gets tricky to pin down, but there are so many games that are miles ahead of ME3. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, Tomb Raiders, C&C: Red Alert 1&2, Mario Karts, Uncharted 1-3, Resident Evils, the original Mass Effect, DA:O, Jade Empire, KOTOR, the old Dune RTS, Wing Commander, Pokemon Silver&Gold, the Metroid Prime trilogy, Super Mario Brothers, Final Fantasy 6-9, FF Tactics, Summuner 1&2, Dead Space 1&2, and so on and so forth.

Frankly the only list of games I'd put ME3 at the top of would be the biggest, most disappointing let downs in gaming history. Just narrowly being worse than Wind Waker.

Well, BG2 and PS:Torment are THE greatest games ever and ME2 "may" get a place in top 20. But people please... there are series like Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Monkey Island, Elder Scrolls, Command and Conquer, Civilization, Starcraft, Total War, Warcraft Witcher and stand alone games like Grim Fandango, (First) Unreal, Deus Ex, Half Life, Portal 2, hell how could i forget Ultima Online.

BTW i hate jrpg and other japanese(or korean or whatever) style games and i can't even stand first Resident Evil let alone the whole series so i'm sure there are some great(blasphemous) games from that side as well.

ME3 isn't even one of the greatest of last 10 years. I mean: mindless action, endless cut-scenes, poorly writen story... also let's be honest here, even graphics and animations are bad.

One can love ME3, there is no problem with that. I LOVE "Blood II: The Chosen" but would i call it a great game? Nope.

I actually considered Mass Effect my favourite franchise prior to the pathetic ending. Due to this display of incompetent story telling in a role playing game, ME3 lost many spots in my personal hit list. I think it could still end up as one of my top 20 all time games.
