Should everything be balanced around Platinum now?

So does that mean that things should be able to be overpowered and underpowered in Gold come Tuesday, and all balance changes should be made with respect to Platinum instead? If not, why does the 'highest difficulty' aspect no longer hold? If so, does it really make sense to balance with a difficulty that most players won't probably be able to succeed at in mind?
Just curious on the "balance all the things!" crowd's take on Platinum's place in future balance changes.

I consider it a "bonus" difficulty.

I wouldn't say no to everything else getting buffed to be viable since balancing around Platinum means making everything OP.
Well... OP on both Bronze and Silver to even have a chance at Platinum if Derek's comments are anything to go by.

Depending on how hard it really is.

If things are balanced in Platinum, then really nothing should be underpowered in the lower difficulties, and a few things might be overpowered based on scaling.
but really, simply being skilled makes you overpowered in Bronze, Silver, and Gold right now. I can be overpowered on my Drellguard with a Katana X.
It's also not a bad thing to feel overpowered on Bronze, as it's something some people do actually enjoy.

My personal take on it: Yes it should be balanced around Platinum.

At most, Platinum should award approx 100k credits, give or take a bit. Enough to reward those who can complete it reasonably, but not enough for it to be more efficient for farmers and 2nd tier players to try and worm their way into it for free credits.

-Common weapon: Good in Broze, Decent in Silver, Underpowered in Gold and Suckballs in Platinum
-Uncommon weapon: Pretty Good in Bronze. Good in Silver, Decent in Gold and Underpowered in Platinum
-Gold weapon: Awesome in Bronze, Still Awesome in Silver, Good in Gold, Decent in Platinum
-Ultra-rare: Godlike in Bronze, Awesome in Silver, Still Awesome in Gold, Good in Platinum

Because if the game doesn't play exactly how I want it to; I will make 9,001 threads on the forum about how a weapon is overpowered until it gets nerfed to suck on Bronze.

and so it begins, smh....no the game should not be balanced around plat, just like the game shouldnt be balanced around gold....the majority of people arent gonna play those levels on a consistent basis
thats like saying MMOs dont have to have class balance because a lot of peopple dont PVP.

The staff should continue to pretend Gold is the highest difficulty, and they should make absolutely NO EFFORTS to balance the game around Platinum. If they do that, it completely defeats the purpose of adding the difficulty in the first place. We'll have to start asking for Diamond-Encrusted Goblet of Fire difficulty, and Dumbledore will get mad at ALL of you if you put your names in that cup.

no it's not...what's it's saying is if you balance the game around the highest level, it makes the other levels pointless....in fact, it makes the highest level pointless because the level wont be hard anymore....which will mkae the game boring....games are unbalanced on higher levels to make those levels, for lack of a better word, hard...

It doesn't matter what people think. Two months from now people on this forum will dismiss balance/build/strategy discussions that are not "Platinum Viable" the same way we do Bronze/Silver discussions now. So even if we don't want to make platinum the new standard it will be the center of all balance, buff, nerf, class, power, weapon, and strategy debates anyways.
basically....i think that's what's gonna happen too....plat is gonna gonna be substituted for gold in all the threads now

From all the talk, the majority won't even be able to get halfway through Platinum; so if what you're saying is true, 99% of discussion is going to be entirely "NOTHING IS STRONG ENOUGH, EVERY GUN IS WEAK, ENEMIES TOO STRONG, WAH".
And god, I hope Bioware ignores it all.
