I've seen a lot of nerf herders saying that every weapon should be designed and balanced with gold in mind. I don't really disagree, since bronze is forgiving as ****, and silver is fairly doable even with janky weapons, but the argument is often that things should be balanced around the HIGHEST difficulty.

So does that mean that things should be able to be overpowered and underpowered in Gold come Tuesday, and all balance changes should be made with respect to Platinum instead? If not, why does the 'highest difficulty' aspect no longer hold? If so, does it really make sense to balance with a difficulty that most players won't probably be able to succeed at in mind?

Just curious on the "balance all the things!" crowd's take on Platinum's place in future balance changes.

I don't think it will be balanced around Platinum.

No.

I consider it a "bonus" difficulty.

Hopefully that means they'll do a little something to bring Snipers back up.

I wouldn't say no to everything else getting buffed to be viable since balancing around Platinum means making everything OP.

Well... OP on both Bronze and Silver to even have a chance at Platinum if Derek's comments are anything to go by.

My personal take on it: Yes it should be balanced around Platinum.

If things are balanced in Platinum, then really nothing should be underpowered in the lower difficulties, and a few things might be overpowered based on scaling.

but really, simply being skilled makes you overpowered in Bronze, Silver, and Gold right now. I can be overpowered on my Drellguard with a Katana X.

It's also not a bad thing to feel overpowered on Bronze, as it's something some people do actually enjoy.

Balance should stay based on Gold.

With luck, this will be unnecessary, if Platinum turns out to be what it SHOULD BE; which is a challenge mode meant to test the best of the best players. However, it will only viably function as such if the REWARDS for playing said mode ARE NOT significantly better than playing Gold.

At most, Platinum should award approx 100k credits, give or take a bit. Enough to reward those who can complete it reasonably, but not enough for it to be more efficient for farmers and 2nd tier players to try and worm their way into it for free credits.

This is how weapon should be

-Common weapon: Good in Broze, Decent in Silver, Underpowered in Gold and Suckballs in Platinum

-Uncommon weapon: Pretty Good in Bronze. Good in Silver, Decent in Gold and Underpowered in Platinum

-Gold weapon: Awesome in Bronze, Still Awesome in Silver, Good in Gold, Decent in Platinum

-Ultra-rare: Godlike in Bronze, Awesome in Silver, Still Awesome in Gold, Good in Platinum

just like certain weapons are viable on gold and others seemingly worthless on gold.. there should be weapons balanced for platinum. I guarantee weapons like the GPS, Reegar, Harrier, BW, Scorpion, etc etc will be effective enough to avoid balance. However, to avoid having only a handful of useful weapons on Platinum, others may need to be buffed slightly

Everything needs to be balanced around me.

Because if the game doesn't play exactly how I want it to; I will make 9,001 threads on the forum about how a weapon is overpowered until it gets nerfed to suck on Bronze.

/BSN response.

No, god no, never.

The staff should continue to pretend Gold is the highest difficulty, and they should make absolutely NO EFFORTS to balance the game around Platinum. If they do that, it completely defeats the purpose of adding the difficulty in the first place. We'll have to start asking for Diamond-Encrusted Goblet of Fire difficulty, and Dumbledore will get mad at ALL of you if you put your names in that cup.

Nope. Platinum is just a bonus difficulty that should not be considered when balance changes are being made.

It doesn't matter what people think. Two months from now people on this forum will dismiss balance/build/strategy discussions that are not "Platinum Viable" the same way we do Bronze/Silver discussions now. So even if we don't want to make platinum the new standard it will be the center of all balance, buff, nerf, class, power, weapon, and strategy debates anyways.

no it's not...what's it's saying is if you balance the game around the highest level, it makes the other levels pointless....in fact, it makes the highest level pointless because the level wont be hard anymore....which will mkae the game boring....games are unbalanced on higher levels to make those levels, for lack of a better word, hard...

From all the talk, the majority won't even be able to get halfway through Platinum; so if what you're saying is true, 99% of discussion is going to be entirely "NOTHING IS STRONG ENOUGH, EVERY GUN IS WEAK, ENEMIES TOO STRONG, WAH".

And god, I hope Bioware ignores it all.

I think it should stay gold focused. Platinum sounds ridiculously hard from what I hear....All weapons will need to 1000 damage a shot if we balance around platinum.

I wouldn't like that. I see Platinum as something for people who have been complaining about Gold being too easy and want more of a challenge. If things get balanced around Platinum, everything will be too powerful on Bronze/Silver/Gold and people will continue being unsatisfied with the highest difficulty.
