By promoting your characters, you can actually make use of all of the character cards you'll inevitably get. Plus, you'll be able to experiment with different builds.

I used to think it mattered, but I've been proven wrong so many times that I changed my mind. I look at weapons and consumables to try to weed out the incompetent now, although even that isn't foolproof.

My rank is 3000 and several times I have been 2nd in a game (silver, gold), both it was my friends. I have seen a lot of ppl with higher rank then me to sux very much and not that much... And I have seen a lot of low players to be very good (most of them can protect themself, but not doing a lot of points which is not that much important). For me new players with rank below 120 are still not that usefull in the games. They dont have much weapons, gear, upgrades and whatever is left :). For me its not the n7 rating but the weapons and upgrades u have.

One of the top leaders of what?

Im with the ME3 bureau of ludicrous claims. I have to ask, its my job.

N7 doesn't mean anything.

that's why everyone  is willing to play PUG with squad full of people with N7 below 50

You got that right. Just because certain bsn members can pull it off doesnt mean everyone can. They are in the minority.

I hate to bring this to you; but no one who is not on that ranking cares. And I estimate 90%+ players doesnt even know there is a ranking system.

N7 Rank does matter to a degree. Yes, you could have gotten free XP through Character cards and such, but that only makes up a small fraction of your rank. At least for me. Currently Im ranked #28 in the US I think, or was, whatever. Im disabled and pretty much bed ridden. I play like all day, everyday practically. My arse gets booted for my rank which is a joke. Pinheads prefer to play PUGs with inexperienced players that MAY result in an extraction, or have at least 1 person to maybe pull you through.

I hear on this forum that 120 is the number to be at. I havent played with anyone, yet, at that rank worth his salt. That may work well playing with friends, which is a thousand times easier than pugging. Heck, Ive dozed off a couple of times playing shooting at the ceiling when my buddies called me. Thats the big difference right there, not so much rank. If you have spent your time playing mostly with friends, thats a cake walk. Ive played almost every match as a PUG. A scrub, as many like to call us Lobby folk from here. Am I the best player? Hell no. Best team mate? Yep, for sure. I play purely for extraction. I guarantee Im probably the rare few who doesnt care about score. Alot say it, but thats a joke otherwise noone would be calling for nerf or buffs on this forum.

My gaming style is purely stick and move. Cover? I have no idea what that is unless its to get my shields back up. Which is why OP Packs I use doubly more than medigel.

People really need to get over themselves. N7 rank definitely plays a part, albeit a small part. Again, the big difference is how you play and who you play with. The question is, how the hell will you even know looking at a number on the screen? I could have the best loadout in the world and still suck wind.

I play pretty regulary for fun and don't care growing my N7 rating beyond 120 at all. And at least on PC, no one has ever tried to kick me from gold game. Hopefully it stays the same for platinum.

I personally think that whole N7 rating system is pointless and should be removed. It only causes over-competative teens to try to achieve something pointless in their lifes, rather than enjoy the game as a difficult co-operative experience against overwhelming odds.

I will kick players from gold games only is if he/she tries to play with really low level characters. And I have seen N7 level-uber-elite players trying to play gold with level 1 characters. That means insta-kick.

Multiplayer in general, fuels the "I need to be Number 1 attitude" not the N7 ranking, though Im sure some people play it that way. Alot cheat as well. If youve ever looked at the leaderboards, its funny how the people who were there with over 10000 are no longer there. I like to promote simply to keep variety in the game. Why I always play PUGs, and very little with friends. Heck, I have a XBOX family account that I created a new profile and have started all over again using the crappy avenger on Silver matches. Fun stuff!

N7 Rank never has mattered and never will. That's like saying your rank in Halo: Reach or any Call of Duty title matters. They're all just to show how much time you put into the game and not really any indicator of skill what so ever.

And in this game, they don't even show the time you have put to the game.

Rank, weapons, characters, gear, equipment, gamertag, level, mic/no mic it doesn't matter. You want a shot, I'll give you a shot.

Like the rest, you apply that generalization to everyone, which simply isnt true. If I was a perspective employer and had to choose, Id rather take the guy who spent the time, rather than someone who looked good on 'paper'.

I also didnt say N7 mattered, but it should be a consideration into who gets kicked.

N7 is very important. It allows me to go "ha ha" while pointing a virtual finger at the low N7s (ala Nelson from the Simpsons)

I usually assume high N7 ranks (1000+) are usually players who play Silver mostly and a bit of Gold. A player that plays Gold exclusively and still promotes a lot would have to play Gold with level 1 characters. That's fine and all, but they're probably usually playing private games with people they know rather than public games where lots of people will vote to kick them. So that would mean I wouldn't see those types of players very often in public games.

In my experience, the highest N7 ranks I've met (1000+) have never been amazing. Just somewhere between pretty bad to okay. And the best players have always been between 200 and 900 N7 rating and have long stopped promoting. I'm sure there are exceptions, just haven't met any.

Bottom line is that there are crappy players in the pool. High, Mid, Low range N7's. Point is, you cant simply judge by a number, loadout, etc. I have run Gold with level 1 equipment. Should I get the boot? Well I would judging by the majority of BSN. You will never know until you actually play. Thats the ONLY true tell.

Weapon ranking I could care less about. The type of weapon? One time I wanted to see just how bad the scimitar would be in gold. The leader very politely asked for me to change the weapon or join another game. No problem..... understandable request.

I think as a general trend: high N7 means played a lot, which usually equates to above average skill, and at least better better weapons/mods/ammo.

But yes it's meaningless as a whole. I'm N7 180 and outscore N7 3500+ers at times, and often ones ten times my rank. I regularly have better weapons than those in the 500-1500 range, and am often more knowledgable about game mechanics (e.g.: bugged ULM) than a random high N7 non-BSNer.

I'm not a great player, but it still amuses me when high N7ers can barely play silver, and you're carrying them on gold. Then you'll run into a player in the 4K range that is amazing, and worthy of pseudo-kudos that N7 is meant to indicate.

So yes in my experience N7 is all-but meaningless.
