This afternoon I had a guy trying to kick me because I was only rank 400ish , he was like 1800 and played with a justicar with the claymore  and Krysae.
That idiot wouldn't believe me when I told him I probably played for twice as long as him as the only time when I cared promoting my chars is when it was the weekend objective and at very first when I thought I wouldn't play online for long (shows how wrong I was).

He was dead last after extraction (gold / reaper / jade) scored maybe 40000.

Anyone at 120 or above could be first in leader board if playtime was involved.

Some of the best players I know of have low N7 ranks, doesn't mean anything. Anything below 120 means they haven't gotten all classes to 20, which can say something about how much someone has played. But there are lots of players who don't promote and stick at 120.

Better take a look at weapon loadout, and even that's not always saying a lot.

As one of the top leaders I can tell you not at all. But anyone higher up I am more inclined to trust using a crazy build or loadout. At the end of the day its knowledge of the game the game and basic FPS skills. All things that any N7 rank could have.

One of the top leaders of what?

Im with the ME3 bureau of ludicrous claims. I have to ask, its my job.

x43VRFALLEN819x rank 7

I hate to bring this to you; but no one who is not on that ranking cares. And I estimate 90%+ players doesnt even know there is a ranking system.

wasn't bragging or anything he just asked and I responded since my manifest isn't linked.

Well, im a little confused. the topic of this thread is 'Does N7 rank really matter' and you answered  "As one of the top leaders I can tell you not at all."

And what I asked what made you a top leader, you post your N7 rank?

I usually check players' weapons/mods... but if someone us under say 100, then yeah, I won't be too happy about them joining Gold. I may not kick then but... well if they're really really low I might.

I only promoted to get ahead of my friend to annoy him but it has helped me become a better player. I can play a level one on silver with level 20s and still be in first or second place with out going down but a couple of times. Not trying to brag, there are better players but like I said it has really made me good at this game. I am currently at 1036 I believe. But in the end it is up to you if rank matters.

My N7 is six-hundred something. From my perspective a lot of the elite N7 guys (2500+) aren't much better than me and are usually smug to boot , so I'd say that N7 does matter a bit, just not in the way you'd expect.

Absolutely not N7 rank doesn't matter, Ive been 210 since April cause I dont like re-starting, I use all my classes all the time from match to match. I dont want to go from using a level 20 Vanguard that I use smoothly and flawlessly to a level 10 Adept that I got to worry about health, low power damage and stuff like that.

Other than they are more likely to have higher level gear which helps. I have seen 4000s in bronze with gear in every slot and I outscoire them with a level 1 and no gear other than the perm-equip slot. Your odds are slightly better though the higher you go. They certainly played more matches, but you don't know if they are a bronze paper tiger or a score topping pro until you match with them.

Low n7 may just have basic guns which hurts their potential even if they are good. They are shooting nerf balls having to work harder to get a basic trooper kill while you polished off 3 with your X shotgun.

Not really. A few people on my friends list play the hell out of only one-two characters and have barely promoted them, yet are still several hundred N7's down from others who have barely played any where as much.

Some of the most epic noobs I've seen had N7 rating in the thousands. Today I saw an infiltrator with a Locust versus 1 banshee. Yeah, that's right, a salarian infiltrator with a Locust and nothing else. After 12 long and shameful minutes, the result was banshee:2 Locust infiltrator:1 But the banshee had less medi-gels than him. After the extraction it turned out that the guy was over 2000 n7 rating. But I wasn't surprised, I've seen it before. So far I've seen exactly 3 people with 1000+ rating who knew exactly what they were doing. If you're a good player you prove it with your skills. If you have very high n7 rating and you suck in MP you can still make people laugh at you.

P.S. Forgot to mention that the Locust guy didn't want to use a missile in his 12 minute banshee fight but he did use a missile on a brute 1 second AFTER extraction was completed and all enemies were dead xD

N7 Rank never has mattered and never will. That's like saying your rank in Halo: Reach or any Call of Duty title matters. They're all just to show how much time you put into the game and not really any indicator of skill what so ever.

And in this game, they don't even show the time you have put to the game.

Yep. Been playing since the demo, have every Rare weapon maxed, has every character bar PA:

Is level 150.

Im Pushing N7 3600 and I can say this...

The only thing that matters is when the mission ends and it says "Successful".

Anecdotal evidence on my part is this: I'm Better than most of the players that have a Higher N7 than I do(actually Ive kicked the snot out of everyone Ive played with that had a higher n7 but Im sure there are better players out there with Higher N7), but have had my backside handed to me by a level 800 on more than one occasion...Weapon builds and weapon selection can tell you a lot in PUG games but Ive seen some players do amazing things on Gold with ****** poor equipment.

There is no direct correlation to ability... equipment loadouts are a better indicator. If I see a level 120 with a level 10 Harrier, I know the dude plays and just doesn't promote.

If I see a level 147 with a level 1 Carnifex, chances are he hasn't played for a while.

On the flip side, I see plenty of idiots with high ranks.

Means nothing. The only things that matter are the guns, character class/build/level, a reasonable kit for higher difficulties, and player skill/dedication. Mostly the last one.

<---- N7 = 1200 (get my butt kicked by folks in the hundreds often enough to remind me I'm nothing special, and kick folks butts @ >1800 often enough to remind me neither are they).

You're doing it wrong.
Guy with N7 rank 5000+, equips KV with Crusader AND Revenant. Comes last while becoming banshee **** during a game.

more rank means more chance for bigger manifest and more tactical options. When I want 3 cerberus biotics and an infiltrator with arc grenades i need somebody higher than n7 1 rank

make a graph that plots n7 ranking vs quality of gear/weapons any given players have.

i bet the graph will be pretty linear.

thus yes, somewhat.

It's a pretty lazy way to judge a player. I'd say weapon quality, character level, and how intelligent their build is are far more indicative of how well they're going to perform. If you couldn't see any of those details and had only N7 rank to go on you could probably make a case that higher N7 means better weapons, but you can see all those details so why generalize?

<N7 120 expresses inexperience in the game (Can be easily seem by their weapon levels). . <N7 120 joining a Gold game isn't smart on his/her part.

the N7 indicates the level of experience of the player, but I have seen a N7 120 give a kick a 1000+ xD

I have a chart and statistics that support the idea that N7 rating shares a relationship with the size of the male member and vaginal flexibility.
