Like with most science the study wasn't entirely conclusives, they couldn't say exactly what caused the reported necrosis they were just couldn't directly link it to the spider in tests. Medical treatments will still err on the side of caution until more definitve results are reached, definitely don't take it lightly, still a bad bug bite.

Do you think that it is weird for a Shepard who didn't romance Liara, and was a complete jerk to her(With good reason.) would care about Thessia falling anymore than another planet? If Shepard romances the contrivance I can see why he/she would be upset, but otherwise, it makes no sense to me.

Honestly even my canon femshep who romanced liara felt a bit too devostated by Thessia. Wanted it to go more like:
"Shepard the reapers just took my homeworld!"
"Join the club?"
Only not so heavy handed of course.
