This list is getting long, so I will try to make it shorter.

Pros.

The Particle Rifle has perfect stability and accuracy, unlimited/recharging ammo, high RoF, does great damage in its "hot mode," and great range.

Cons.

The Particle Rifle is very heavy, has a very long reload, does horrible damage in "cold mode," stops doing damage at a certain range, is bad at CQC, stops shooting if staggered, and is a UR.

Tips.

Always shoot from cover, if possible. Do not go to ammo boxes unless using grenades. Let teammates get ammo first, if using grenades. Start the beam as you turn the corner, and always go for headshots.
Do not aim in if the enemy is moving. Lock on the target first, and then aim in.
Watch your ammo and strafe while shooting. You can stop the beam, if you want to set off a combo.

Tricks.

Both the Human Soldier and N7 Destroyer Soldier can jump-start the reload.
If using the HS, use Adrenaline Rush when the reload animation (the character holds the gun away from its body) starts to skip it. If using the Destroyer, switch Devastator Mode on and off. It will cause the ammo to jump start.

You will not get staggered behind cover, so always try to shoot from cover.

The RoF increase in Devastator Mode, Marksman, or Hunter Mode does not help it get to "hot mode" faster.
But if your using Incendiary Rounds they do help with it DoT.

The Batarian's extra ammo ability, the Thermal Clip Storage, and Barrage Upgrade gears do not add any ammo to the Particle Rifle. However, the N7 Destroyer's extra magazine increases the ammo by 10% or 35%.

You can use Tactical Cloak 2 or 3 times while firing the beam to get TC damage boost.

Update: The Turian Ghost Infiltrator's rank 6 Tactical Cloak increases assault rifles damage by 20% for 10 seconds, plus his Stimulant Pack can increase damage by 17.5% for at least 6 second. This means the Ghost may have the most powerful PPR shot in the game.

You can use a power (ex. Concussive Shot or Reave) to staggers the enemy before starting the beam to get easy headshots.

Update: After the patch on 10/4/12 Bosses take headshot damage so aim for there heads.

Update: When Drells use the PPR (and the CSR) the camera will shift down near their elbow making it very hard to use the PPR with Drells

Here's a video showing this glitch

Mods, Ammo, and Gear.

Always use Extended Magazine and Piercing Mod because the other mods will not help.

Update: The High-Velocity Barrel helps way more than the Piercing Mod however it will make the PPR heavier so if you plan on using the PPR on a character with a power watch your cooldown.

Incendiary is the best ammo for the Particle Rifle.

Update: with the change to fire and cryo explosions on October 9, 2012 Cryo ammo is great on the PPR

If not using grenades, use the Assault Rifle Amp. If using grenades, use the Warfighter Package.
If worried about defense, use the Stronghold Package, Multicapacitor, or Shield Booster.

Builds.

There are alot of good builds that can use the PPR, however there are three builds anyone with the PPR has to try

Human Soldier
N7 Destroyer
Turian Ghost

These builds are not set in stone if you want to use Grenades or Overload use them.

Videos (Note these are before the patch and the two buffs)

a video of RedJohn Soloing with the particle rifle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IFaRcQlLHc  a video of PSNHAYTRED using the Particle Rifle on a N7 Destroyer.

Update: INVADERONE has some videos with the post-buff PPR so go to his Youtube Channel Here
That's all I got try them out and have fun:wizard:

I think EM and EB would be better for it.

Only if you use AP ammo.

I was using it on a turian soldier
what i found effective was to shoot for a bit, use a power (overload), then continue shooting

sounds simple

but basically try to keep it to small bursts by continually weaving in powers

I'd agree, extended mag is mandatory
batarians have extra ammo as well

I've seen alot of threads of peeps complaining about this gun. I'm sad cuz it's my fav in the SP. Maybe the fact I used it with maxed out incendary rounds played a part? With it's constant rate of fire, odds are the enemy would be set on fire as opposed to the single shot guns. Plus the fact that the SP incendary rounds did AoE damage as well made it a welcome fit with this gun. IMO, of course.

I don't have it yet in the MP so I can't say anything bad about it... YET, lololol.

I have used this gun since it came out and everything you said I figured out. Great minds think alike and that nonesense.

On a more serious note, do what the OP says! This gun is good when used effectively, I also used the Targeting VI V Gear which makes the uncharged beam do way more damage on headshots, and that's perferct for dealing with low level enemies.

I'm not saying they aren't but the Particle Rifle does have good points.

That a joke? Use it so it never achieves its maximum damage?

Good tips.

And I have another one.
-Try not to completely deplete your ammo/energy/space magic in one go. Basically, let it start recharging before your ammo count goes to 0. That way, you will never have to wait for that rather long reload/cooldown animation, before the gun can even start recharging.

No of course you want to get it at the peak dps, but I'm saying instead of using it all the way down to 0 ammo and waiting for the reload animation or for it to regen all the way back up, use a power before ammo gets that low.

Point being to not run out of ammo.

I see it as more of a sustained dps weapon rather than a burst dps weapon.

Shouldn't Marksman be an excellent power to use with this rifle, since it increase the rate of fire?

IMO, you'd want the opposite. You don't want to increase the rate of fire.
Adrenaline rush to skip the reload animation is useful.

If you increase it that much you'd burn through ammo very quickly and then have to sit through the reload or wait for it to regen.

But it depends what difficulty level you're playing on.
Bronze I'm sure a single clip will be sufficient to get 2 or 3 kills and then you'd be able to wait out the reload.
On silver/gold I don't think it would be as efficient.

I can't see why you wouldn't always use extended magazines. 130 hyper beam > 50 hyper beam

Yeah I was excited when I got it but now its meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh.

The most success I had with it was extended barrel and magazine.

With appropriate consumables

I think his point was that small bursts won't get it into the extra damage mode.  You have to fire 50 rounds continuously and it will start to do more damage per shot (I heard the bonus is X4 damage, but I don't know that that's been confirmed).  Without the aid of marksmen or hunter mode or some other RoF increase, it takes almost 4 seconds of continuous fire to get it up to full damage.  And then a decent DPS can only be obtained by firing the entire rest of the clip without a break (a total of somewhere around 13 seconds of continuously firing with the extended mag).  "Weaving in powers" will prevent the PR from reaching its full potential (which still isn't that great).

I actually tried marksman when it came out on Tuesday, It wastes more ammo before it did more damage and wasted super mode twice as fast.

To me the gun is already marksman mode, I will still use this gun on my Turian, just spam concussion shot or prox mine instead.
