I takes 30 bullets to activate charged mode! From an extended mag of 180 it drops to 150 then gets super chared! with 4x the damage!
I have used this gun on Gold, only level 4 though, and it can kill everthing but bosses reasonably fast.
On Bronze this gun is overkill and is normal on Silver.

Then tried it following your tips, which are pretty good. I was using human soldier.
I would definitely have done better using a Harrier or Saber. Plusing keeping the trigger depressed and aiming for so long gives me a sore wrist, so probably won't use it too often.
BUT, like you said, if you get it right it can really chew through bosses, took a banshee from 100% to dead in about 5 seconds.

Bronze? Because it took me a full clip (and possibly then some) to kill Brutes on Gold with equipment boosts all over the place (Warp IV, AR Amp III, Warfighter V).sirjimmus86 wrote...

BTW if you're using a Human Soldier so you can use the AR cooldown cancel trick, make sure to put a couple of points into Concussive Shot so you can shove away husks/mooks that are in melee range, the PR is about as far from a CQC weapon as you can get.
Also, don't use this thing against Geth, if you get staggered you have to warm up the gun all over again and, considering how long you need to be out of cover to use it effectively, you will definitely get staggered.

2. Put the difficulty to bronze.
That way there is a chance it might feel like you're wielding a decent weapon at least.

I've had it two day and since I can't find any threads with tips I decided to make one.
1. The Particle Rifle is not as powerful in MP as it was in SP so don't think it will kill a boss in 5 seconds.
2. Always use the Extended Magazine & Piercing Mods
Piercing Mod over Extended Barrel due to its low damage, armor will take away too much of its DPS without the AP mod
3. The Particle Rifle feels like it was made for the Human Soldier because you can use the whole clip and when it overheats use Adrenaline Rush it will skip the reload animation meaning you have unlimited ammo and no reload.
Use Adrenaline Rush after you use all of the Particle Rifle's ammo when the reload animation starts (ie. the character holds the gun away from its body) use Adrenaline Rush it will skip the reload animation.
4. The Particle Rifle is better at headshots then most of the Sniper Rifles in the game always go for headshots you will get the gold medal for headshots by wave 3-4 in every match.
ie. The Particle Rifle gets headshots on Phantoms and Brutes meaning they die so fast even on gold
5. If the enemy is moving to much don't aim-in the beam is much faster when fired from the hip lock-on to the enemy and then aim-in.
6. Alwasy use ammo and amp even level 1s do amazing on the Particle Rifle.
7. The Particle Rifle is not a casters weapon any class that uses powers a lot should not use this weapon.
ie. If your character relies on its power to do damage the Particle Rifle will not be much help because when you use a power the beam stops.
8. If your not using a Human Soldier try not to completely deplete your ammo in one go. Basically, let it start recharging before your ammo count goes to 0. That way, you will never have to wait for the cooldown animation, before the gun can even start recharging. (Thanks Relix28)
If lag is massing with the ammo counter always stop in the 20s or 30s so even with lag it should stop before the cooldown
9. Pulse it. Start the beam even when no enemy is present, let it go (fast recharge) and pulse again … keep it just to the point of that it is about to go into heavy beam mode. The tiny beam pulse doesn’t need aimed and when pulsing it think smaller beam as “aim assist” for quick aiming of main blast since you cant miss what the things pointing at) and then when its time to unleash the fury high dmg beam simple hold the trigger down… it’ll kick right in since it was on the verge of high beam mode right as that trooper walked by… if in cover behind a wall shoot the wall half a second before rounding the corner to blast.( Thank Striker93175)
10. If your not using a character with grenades don't go to ammo boxes you will take all of the ammo when you don't need it, your teammate will thank you.
11. Marksman drains the ammo much faster so you can get it to "hot" mode much faster but you end up wasting so much ammo because you will miss alot that I don't recommend using it with Marksman with the Particle Rifle.
12. The Batarians extra ammo doesn't add any ammo to the Particle Rifle.
13. The Particle Rifle range is not as long as it looks. ie on Firebase Ghost if you shoot from the ramp by the LZ you wont hit anything in the room down the ramp.
14. Husks are the worst enemy to fight with the Particle Rifle due to the beam not hitting things that are close to you.
15. The vorcha + reegar glitch doesnt work with the Particle Rifle. (ie. you can't use Flamer while the beam is on like with the reegar)
16. Like every other weapon In the game if you hit the enemy with a debuff like ( Warp or Tactical Scan ) the damage the Particle Rifle does becomes amazing.
17. Try to think of the Particle Rifle as a Hurricane that has to charge for 2 seconds. but with unlimited ammo and a AP mod. ie.( The longer you keep it on an enemy the more damage it will do)
18. If you use Tactical Cloak while firing the beam it won't stop so you get TCs damage boost and the enemy wont see you for a second.
That all I can think of right now if I think of anymore I'll let you know.
using particle rifle on batarian sentinal, just web and shoot if swarmed shock wave. havent tried gold with batarian yet tho.
but used a salarian infiltrator on gold equipped with it.
i usually put piercing mod and magazine on it.
equipment i put warp ammo

Oh yay it doesn't use ammo... if it did use ammo you'd need to carry about 2000+ rounds to make it through a wave, provided you don't get bored and suicide.

People are gunna like the Particle Rifle. That's fine, too.
Doesn't matter what you use, just be comfortable with it, and stay alive in the fight.

I though that as well until I got a medal of headshoting a Brute.

They fixed it with the latest patch. Maybe you even got it for another kill and just thought it was for the brute. Unless they introduced a new bug with the particle rifle, which I highly doubt.

Depends on how you manage to use it, though. The uncharged damage is so low that the AP mod won't necessarily make it do more damage against armour on gold. This is one of those weapons where you really have to do a careful analysis based on your specific build before you can be certain which mod is the optimal one.soultaker65 wrote...

Here's the basic math for a level X PPR, if anyone's interested. I don't know how the charge mechanism works together with mod bonuses, though, so take it with a grain of salt. Does anyone know if the charge multiplier is additive or multiplicative with other damage bonuses?
Damage per shot, uncharged: 21.4, with EB: 26.75
Damage per shot, charged: 85.6, with EB: 107 (depends on how the charge mechanism works together with other damage multipliers, so may not be correct).
Damage per shot against armour based on difficulty:
Bronze, uncharged: base: 6.4, with EB: 11.75, with AP: 16.15
Bronze, charged: base: 70.6, with EB: 92, with AP: 80.35
Silver, uncharged: base: 5, with EB: 5, with AP: 10.9
Silver, charged: base: 55.6, with EB: 77, with AP: 75.1
Gold, uncharged: base: 5, with EB: 5, with AP: 5
Gold, charged: base: 35.6, with EB: 57, with AP: 68.1
