I've been hosting random games, and it's been basically fine.
I'd never played Gold before today - got dropped into two before, one of which I stuck with from waves 2-7 - but I created games, decent people joined, we communicated a bit, lost a few rounds, but we extracted on two of the four Broadside games, including one full extraction. Lots of healing, lots of missiles, lots of biotic explosions, had a lot of fun, and amazed myself by constantly turning up first or second on the leaderboard.
You don't need to be brilliant, or need to win every time. The game's not about constantly winning, nothing exciting about winning each time; it's about pulling through, getting into tight corners and pummelling your way out, victorious. I spent my first winning match (my first ever Gold extraction - big day!!) as an asari adept, blowing up a Justicar's reave. Vorcha sentinel kicking about, and I think a quarian infiltrator too? Great match. A few terrifying moments, but we hung on, without wasting many consumables, and got most of the team extracted to boot. Great fun. Loved it. Having a lot of fun with the random games. Not everyone's brilliant - my brother had a game with a slightly iffy sniper - but everyone I encountered was pulling their weight and trying their hardest. Good fun.
Now back to Silver for the allied goal.
