So I'm kind of confused.
The Asari "mate" with other species by somehow unifying their nervous sysystems, which apparently allows the Asari to somehow delve and explore her partner's genetics.
Somehow, the Asari meld their own genes with that of her partner and then pass that on to her daughter.
My confusion stems from how according to the wiki all Asari are still 100% Asari and the melded set of genes from the partner are used to randomize the genes of the offspring, but what good is that if they're remaining 100% Asari?

The Asari believe that they gain traits from the melding. That, for example, Matriarch Aethyta might have gained her rather aggressive attitude from her Krogan father.

The game doesn't appear willing to commit itself on whether this is actually true.

That was the idea of it. The melding basically allows them to match some of their child's traits with the melded one. Which means Liara's kids are going to be Thuper Awethum...

In ME2 there is an Asari bartender who had a Krogan parent.
(She's a matriarch but doesn't get the respect that normally comes from that because few Asari respect the wisdom of Krogans)
