Armor, no.
Weapon, yes.

P.S. Only once have I noticed that changing equipment (weapons) is considered an order. A long time ago (when he was still alive:-)) I set Zevran's tactics to "change to melee when attacked" or something like this. And during one battle he got melee-attacked and I saw "weapon exchange" (This may not be accurate because I play the game in Czech) on his order line. So in this case DA understands it as an order. Interesting...

I agree that it's odd in the scheme of what else can be done. However, since I do not change any equipment in combat (even switching weapon slots is done incredibly rarely, usually with only a rogue from bow to melee), it doesn't have any effect on me and I probably wouldn't have thought about it if you didn't mention it.

Yes they do when they aim for maximum efficiency.
Every respectable MMO has a way of changing equipment IC fast and easy. I know this is not MMO but combat mechanics are very similar, yet the way to change equipment is ultimatively clumsy. I know there is pause option, but why even prolonge the pause time? Switching from melee to ranged combat when kitting should be a fast option for example.
For the type of player who wants to get the most out of combat changing equipment has a major effect indeed.

To me something else is infinately more annoying: The fact that PCs and NPCs can freely pass through each other in combat. You put that large fighter in the doorway so that he can hold everyone inside/outside, right? No. The enemies will pass right next to him/through him like he even isn't there. Same if you wanted to block the access to a mage in the back.
Positioning should be a key tactical aspect of this game!

As for me, I try to accomodate my equipment based on how combat is proceeding. So I change weapon sets now and then. A typical situation is when a lot archers emerge on the battlefield and I need to react quickly to that by equipping a bow. But sometimes I even replace my current armor because some armor grants useful bonuses, e.g. when my tank is suddenly overrun by a lot of enemies and I know I will need enough stamina then I have him outfitted with a stamina-regeneration armor (so he can perform vital abilities, such as Critical strike or Two-handed sweep) and other times I just let him wear his "+12 defense heavy armor". I think if equipment replacement were considered a standard order (just like using a potion) it would certainly add to the battle suspense and tactical calculation. So I wonder if somebody is on the same wave and if somebody skilled in modding would be able to fix this with an appropriate mod.

With this in mind, instead of weapon sets, armor sets would be more appropriate I guess.
No sense in wearing +5% ranged crit chance gear when you're backstabbing or backstabbing bonus gloves when you're shooting arrows.

Yes, I understand your point but what we're discussing here is being able to react to how a particular battle develops – in this case – by changing equipment. You can never be fully prepared for what's going on during a battle as combat is usually dynamic. My point here is that changing equipment should be considered an action/order so to make it harder for the player to exploit the current state when you can freely go into your inventory, outfit yourself with a new weapon/armor and there is no prolongation of such an action in combat. It seems to me like cheating, really. To me, it is just logical that if I want to access my inventory during fighting I should be "penalized" for it in a form of an order – it works that way with potions and I believe it should work equally with changing equipment/entering the inventory. Any further ideas?
