Crytek, just because they made Battlefront II and TimeSplitters. I don't really like Crysis that much.

The Slayer is a "weeaboo" how, exactly? Melee weapons make sense in the ME universe, they don't go fast enough for shields to activate(although, I don't think that is shown gameplay-wise), and with the Slayer's ability to short range teleport, melee sounds like a decent combat tactic. Even still, I don't understand how a sword is "weeaboo", maybe if it looked morel like a katana, but it just looks like a generic blade. And even if it was a katana, that's not enough for it to be "weeaboo".

Just my personal first reaction there. I am overall not pleased with the fact we now got "space ninjas" on our side as well. Phantoms are only borderline-tolerable because I can let them have a fistful of steel.

Other than that, their own entry on omni-blades sounds like something that could, and does, provide for more sophisticated and exciting possibilities as far as melee-weaponry is concerned. Fire-and-forget instant-use blade that can have whatever form is aesthetically pleasing? Sure, why not.
If it had to be kitsch blades, I would even have been aboard had it been a pudao-ish polearm instead of a plain dao. Polearms are underrated, and at the end of the day still "cool" however silly they still are in the equation, but that is just me.

I know that Dune gave a quite explicit explanation about why classic melee-weapons are still used there, I was not aware ME did as much. Care to point that one out?

He did, to an extent.

The blades are monomolecular, nigh on impossibly sharp, in-canon/lore would ignore shields.

If you can turn invisible or have the capacity to teleport, training in such a silent art would be just as favourable as training to sit behind an armchair & shoot over it until you get a kill, although martial weapon wielders would be in much shorter supply, as a given.

Just to be sure, will the new weapon mods take the place of the current ones?, 'cause they sounds like they have similar effects but with some trade offs.

Hope not.

It'll probably be

Normal Pistol HC Barrel +25% damage
New Pistol HC Barrel +35% damage +XX weight.

or something.

So you can choose less damage and less weight or more damage and more weight.

I believe that it is mention somewhere in the codex. It pretty much explains how shields work and why melee weapons are effective still. That explanation would be that a user's shields only activate when a high-velocity projectile comes in contact with them(a bullet), and anything below a certain speed/velocity won't trigger the shields. Which is why you can sit down on a chair, without your shields acitvating. The average melee attack is below the speed/velocity for the shields to activate, thus allowing the attacker to bypass the user's shields and get directly to them. I think that its an interestin idea. It would be nice if melee attacks worked like in lore and directly affected a target's health instead of having to take down their shields first, like every other weapon.

Indeed they do. The Slayer should be excellent at melee, as somebody(Gamespot, I think) said that even with his light melees, he teleports and can switch between targets easily. That should make for some awesome moments. Surrounded by five troopers, teleport everywhere around them and slice them up before they can even land a hit.

Dunno why people are bashing the new guns, they look fine, and seem to be on par with damage from existing guns (with slight variations of course). What you guys are forgetting is that we are not entirely sure what mods/enhancements are being used on the weapons they use in these demo videos, so the actual effectiveness of the new weapons is not entirely clear. I guarantee you with the new mods or even existing mods these guns will be even better. Granted this is what we know on Bronze....

The new shotgun's damage looks on par with the Eviscerator, but it obviously has a much shorter range, very wide spread, and is either semi-auto or auto. Expect it to weight more than the Eviscerator though.

The LMG from what we see clearly has very high recoil (thus somewhat hindered accuracy), medium spread, short-medium range, but high damage. Plus in the video, the LMG is not being fired much from cover, so expect firing from cover to be a huge advantage with this gun (like the Revenant for instance). Again, with the proper mods slapped on this gun, the LMG has huge potential for the Soldier classes to dish out tons of weapon damage.

The pistol, by far the most underrated from what we see on the videos and hear from people online. Single shot, all shots must be charged before fired, the projectiles drop considerably from range, projectiles bounce off surfaces, AoE when the round hits an enemy or stops bouncing, and powerful damage when hitting an enemy. As you can see in the video, Cannibals are being killed with one shot from this thing, and I believe he gets two or three in one shot with the AoE (not watching the video again atm). Granted it is Bronze, but also Cannibals on Bronze can take a beating before going down. Also looks like the pistol has a low ammo capacity, so shot placement is key on the higher difficulties. Might have a weight comparable to the Paladin or Scorpion pistols. Again, mods are going to be huge with this gun.

Another observation, in the Shadow video, notice how fast the Shadow Strike CD is while the Widow is equipped? I'm not entirely sure of the mods the player had equipped on the Widow (if there even is a new weight reduction mod for sniper rifles), or what upgrades the player had equipped, but the Widow's weight would be immense on the Shadow considering the Shadow's physique, and Shadow Strike still has a short CD. Expect the Shadow to be a great CQB class. Looks like the short CD of Shadow Strike will allow us to utilize it for quick, hard strikes on weaker enemies, a great mop up tool. And of course the bonus power from Rank 6 Tac Cloak.

Also, saw earlier someone was asking about the Shadow Strike ability and whether or not the Shadow will be vulnerable when casting it, or the Fury and Slayer with the teleport abilities. Not sure if Shadow Strike involves a teleport, but if it doesn't expect only AoE's to interrupt it; enemies look like they won't be able to detect or hit you directly while casting. As for the teleports for Fury and Slayer, I believe a BioWare dev stated in one of the videos that the teleports will avoid damage. My guess is that enemies will lose sight of you for that brief second and not fire, or they will still see you and fire but the shots will just go straight through the teleport and not damage you.

Great potential in this DLC, people.

at least the pisrols and assault rifles are getting lightweight matierals, that and reduced recoil on the saber will be great.
