Sadly i couldn't make the port forwarding. My router has pretty odd menu and i can not find the port forwarding function. It must be buggy because i can't even upgrade it. That's why i bought a switch and asked my ISP to give me a second IP address to bypass the router but this trick did not help me either. I was kicked out around the 4th wave five times in a row.

I have done everything listed and I still get disconnected with the "Connection to EA servers lost Please reconnect for online services error" midway through multiplayer normally about wave 5 to 7. only improvement is I can now make it to wave 5 rather than getting the error at wave 2. Any other ideas?

Which problem did you have? Was it problem number 5? What have you done exactly?

Can you please post the exact error message you are getting? I assume it's almost exact. I haven't seen anything with EA in it yet, looks like a new error type.

Are you trying to fix problem number 5? If your router doesn't even have port forwarding than it's a piece of **** for sure. Can you connect your computer direcly to your modem to test if it works that way? Also your network adapter (in your computer) may also be buggy, try updating the drivers there too if any are avaliable.

Excellent post. As someone in technical support I work with networks all the time and that was a very good break down. With that said, there is still plenty that can go wrong with the match making itself. I believe those ports are to allow that match making server to cordinate the connection between all parties, and I think it uses a queue system and many times people are just dropped from that queue. That explains why you will create a public game and no one will join, but as soon as you start the game, people join right away.

So yea, for people where it never works, great advice. For people where it fails quite often, then that advice can still quite possibly help. But even with everything configured perfectly I will still get 1 kick every 20 games or so.

I will explain it in greater depth as soon as I have time but no those ports aren't used by matchmaking server only the game itself. Basically when you start the game you will contact one of their servers and it will scan your firewall. If you have a very strict firewall you will be put in a black list and only get ip's of people who have a moderate firewall because it's impossible to connect two people with strict firewalls together. That means more waiting in the lobby because there are less peole avaliable to you. If you open that port manually however that server will see you as someone with moderate firewall and will give you ip's of other people regardless of their firewall status. But that's not all, you see even if both players have moderate firewalls connecting them together can be a  time consuming process, in fact it can block for few minutes or more, or not connect at all, and that means even more waiting. If that port is open on your side however other peers will be able to connect instantly regardless of their setup.

Opening that port simplifies connecting process and only has indirect influence on disconnects in general.

My computer already allows port 3659, with both the the port checker and the task manager indicating everything should be working.

And what problem do you have exactly? If it's problem number 6 than I have specifically said that port forwarding or disabling firewalls won't help there.

Yes, at first when i was still conected to the router i tried to fix problem 5 - forword the port - but the i found that for some reason i can't. Then i went to my firewall setings and under "Inbound Rules"menu i changed the Local Port and the Remote Port setings from ANY to 3659. The strange thing was that i had 4 names "Mass Effect 3" in the list - 2 under UDP Protocol and 2 under TCP Protocol. Is this normal? I even went through step 2 - I entered in the performance menu/Listening ports and the aplication is usind ports 3659, 9999 and one more with 5 numbers (i can't remember them now).

When i entered my Windows Firewall / Allow Programs menu, I saw the same four Mass Effect 3 aplications in the list with the programs. There are two columns on the right side of the list - Private and Public, with check boxes. Two of the ME3 aplications are checked under Private and the other two are checked under Public . Shoul i check all the boxes? Nothing helps!

Then i skiped problem 5 and went to problem 6 - I unpluged the cable from the router and pluged it directly in my PC, skipping the router as a source, and nothing changed. I thought that the problem may be in the network adapter of the PC but it was up to date and I am sure that there is no problem with my PC so I tried with a switch but the problem is still here.

Nothing works so far and I don't know what else can i do.

Ya, its trouble connecting the ME3 servers, not losing conection with the game :(

My apologies, it was "You have lost connection to the Mass Effect 3 Servers. Please reconnect to access online features."

There was another message involving EA but I'll post it when I see it again. Either way, I've had this since I installed the Earth DLC. I have done all of the setting changes recommended in this post but I still get this error.

Excellent info - Thank you for putting this up!

I'll add I had the same problems connecting to MP games since I bought ME3 in March. In the end no changes or porting or forwarding made any difference until a Tech friend pointed out that the Provider Supplied Router for my Broadband was useless.

Changing router to a better model fixed this for me without have to make any additional changes.
Stupid but simple solution. I've had no issue connectiong to MP now. Router is a NetGear N300.

.....apologies to anyone I've played with since yesterday...It is my 1st time. :)

Most provider supplied routers are very bad, the good thing is that they are usually free. Mine for instance had a broken UPNP, broken firewall and it's wireless was way too weak. From now on if the cable guy insists on using their router (some of them do) he will be leaving my house with that thing in his ass.

9) I contacted customer technical support and they are giving me different advice (different ports etc). Why?

My understanding of this is that people who work in customer technical support don't have any information about technical problems. There is no global list of FAQ's or anything like that. When you contact them they will type your answer in google or BSN search box and copy/paste you the first thing that comes up. I have contacted them myself and was getting links to 5 month old threads on BSN technical support forum with no answer. That means that everyone will be getting different answer to the same question and non of those answers will be official because those almost don't exist.

I ****ING KNEW IT.
Useless in my case, because I'm not so retarded as to run to the helpdesk first thing when I can search myself first. <_<

They don't even pretend to read the ticket; sometimes I have actually said "I looked at this FAQ, it is out of date and the links are broken" only get the response "go look at this FAQ".

One time in WoW I thought all my digsites where hidden. Turned out I unticked 'show digsites' on the main map (I only checked the minimap) but I didn't find that out until I got told to reinstall everything and redownload everything and so on. Okay yeah, I felt retarded when someone who knew what they were doing pointed it out, but it proved that the support people were just reading a checklist and couldn't fix issues any better than I could. (I do love their in-game support though.)

Great stuff! :wizard:

Though for those of us with two computers that multiplayer connected to the same router, the port-forwarding bit won't work. :( (Unless you can forward a port to two computers on a router...)
