Hi all, got DA2 as a $5 "why not" purchase, and am LOVING it. What else should have I expected from Bioware?

Anyways Im somewhere smack in the middle of Act 2 it seems, and Im considering purchasing the DLC for DA2. My question to you all is:

Is the DA2 DLC best played:

1.) After the events of the main quest? (Is this even possible, to finish the main quest, and then add the DLC and play it after)
2.) CLOSE to the end of the main quest? (ex. towards the end of the game, do you get a "point of no return" save point like you do in Mass Effect 3)
3.) or, best played randomly in the middle of the game?

Or, I guess I should add, is it completely separate from the main story? Meaning, you "load" the DLC it from the main menu as a separate campaign and save file entirely?

Just wanted to get all of your opinions!

Thanks!

The DLC feels like DLC, it doesn't really add anything much to the story. Gametrailers.com reviewed Legacy but never reviewed Mark of the Assassin (that might tell you something about the second DLC). Also, Bioware now refuses to make any additional content for DA2, so that also tells you something about the DLC.
It's not really worth it imo. If anything you could buy it to sate your curiosity, but I wouldn't expect much from them.

This should really be put in FAQ or something.

Anyway,, the Exiled Prince takes place over the main story (meaning you get new quests throughout the three acts. In my opinion the other two DLC make most sense in act 3 or post-game (which you can do). Thye are fun as such and correct many of the most criticized flaws in the main game. However. if you really hate the main game, they are not a panacea to cure all flaws.

This opinion is extremely misrepresentie of most people's opinion on the game.

Most people think the DLC each made a good big step in improving on what DA2 did.

My siggestion would be to play them closer to the end. They don't really go hand in hand with the main story (Except for Exiled prince), so if you want it to make complete sense, then make sure you get both done in a story area where no one is in a big hurry.

With the exception of the Exiled Prince, which you begin by going to the Chantry in Act 1 and selecting a Chanter's board quest, Legacy and Mark of the Assassin are started by clicking on a statue in your home within Act 1 or Act 2.

The DLC can be played at any time, but the act you activate them in impacts dialogue within the DLC.

My suggestion? Play Legacy in Act 2 and Mark of the Assassin in Act 3.

Thanks guys for the feedback, that really helped. I guess I did not know I kind of missed the chance to do the Exiled Prince, as now I'm already in Act 2 (can't really go back for that one huh without starting a new game?)

But the 2 major DLCs which people are talking about, Mark and Legacy, I think I will play them post-game, thanks caradoc for informing me that you can still "play" the game after the main quest ends. Since the DLC's are kind of separate from the story, I think that makes the most sense for me.

I'd be getting the DLC not because I hate the main game (I really like it) but rather to try to expand on my $5 investment!

PS. Bioware community is way more civil than others haha. Thanks guys.

$5???? Are they having a sale? I had to pay for the Legacy DLC for $10 just a month ago.  Anyway, you should play them before Act three because the equipment you get isn't going to be as good as the champion armor that you're saddled with in Act three.  So playing them in Act two will get some use out of them.

Oh, by the way.  If you hated the Deep Roads and the Fade quests in Origins, you might want to skip the Legacy DLC because its about three hours long.

My opinion is just as valid as your opinion buddy. Learn some manners.

The only reason the DLC were negatively reviewed was because of the blacklash they got from giving the main game high scores.

And Legacy was, the battles were battle organized, and it provided better insight into the Hawke Family history.

MoTA wasn't that great - Legacy was miles above it in quality and general epicness.

The DLC can be played at any time. I have played it in all three acts and post game. The DLC is very good. I like both Legacy and Mark of the Assassin. The DLC improves on many of the shortcomings of the main game.

Where did he say your opinion was wrong?  He said it was not representative of the majority view.

THough you didn't actually stick to opinions.  You made inferences that are logically unsound.   The fact that someone didn't review MotA or that Bioware isn't making any more DA2 content says absolutely nothing about the quality of that content already made.   Only about the current and future priorities of Bioware:  namely, that they stopped working on DA2 content to put all the resources into DA3.   As much as I would have liked a DA2 expansion, I think that's a wise move.

misrepresention of most people's opinion on the game.

There at least on of every opinion out there. Doesn't mean it represents everyone else.

Not to be rude but unless you have played the dlc your opinion at best is unqualified/invalid just as the opinion of Marine Corp expert is not valid unless they served in the Marines

The Exiled Prince starts in act I and gives you a new companion throughout the game, thus adding to the main game experience.
The other two DLC take on decisions you made during your main game, so doing them at different points give you slightly varied dialogue. My favourite spot to play them is right after the start of act III.

Legacy is superior to Mark in my opinion, because its theme interests me more. For Legacy you should definitly bring your sibling with you. I also recommend Anders because of his Gray Warden background.

Just to make it clear: you can play the DLCs post-game, nothing else. You can't play side quests you skipped.

That sounds pretty darn terrific. On my next quest through DA2, that is certainly what I will have to do =)
