I'm a bit dissapointed in the lackluster way they designed the casters in the game. I still remember the spells in Baldurs Gate that had unique casting animation and arcane chanting dialogue unique to some of them. I don't know if anyone can relate to it, but hearing the sound of someone muttering arcane chants when i entered a new area while playing BG sent the blood pumping. The spell itself is often very well done in DA, but I wish they streched it a bit further to the casting of the spell as well.

I realize the slow motion killing blow is hard to duplicate for casters, but I'm a bit sad that they seem to have stopped the imagination at a generic waving of hands or your staff regardless of instant casts or spells with a cast time. The coolest looking animation for mages is only available for people who purchased Wardens Keep DLC IMO. The life for mana spell looks very cool :)

Mages are so powerful that we could have stomached an artistic break when we cast spells so we can have something interesting to look at and a reason to go down the various spell trees besides the potency of the spell. In the end it would add to the atmosphere of an allready great game.

personally, i'm upset with the lackluster selection of pies, cakes, and other sugary treats in the game. i really wanted to roleplay a character with a wicked sweet tooth and i can't do that at all.

Yeah, I know. I wanted to get cookies for Sten - and the only cake I got was the one Dog dug up for me. I hope I can get cookies for Sten in a future DLC.

I kinda agree, they could have done a better job. Although I find the fire spells to be fairly rewarding visually (and audibly as well)

I would have liked to see some spell final blows. Although I admit, I don't have many ideas. Fire would be easy enough to animate. Maybe electiricy. Not sure about the others though

Ah yeah. Cone of cold and torch are both very nicely done. And they may be able to add an elemental killing blow as artistic as the melee killing blows, I don't know if you wathced the Urn of ashes trailer for the game, but Morrigan has a wicked lightning killing blow on the dragon in that video.

Again, the visuals of many of the spells are awesome. It's more a question of missing some of the dressing up of the actual art of casting the spells I guess. I find myself doing that quite a lot while playing Bioware games, comparing some of the best stuff they added to the Baldurs Gate games, which was in 2D and with a clean turnbased system of combat. Not all of that is possible to import to a more action driven game like Dragon Age I guess.

I understand what you're saying, they're slightly lack luster. But I will say that in NWN2 the spell effects were so over the top that if there were a few mages in a battle shooting off spells, you couldn't even see what was going on. You were blinded by way too much on the screen, not too mention how it zapped performance. I loved how spells looked in BG2 2D, but I think with 3D it's better to go understated.
