I think the drama would have been just fine if saving both required a significant push to pull off. The way people talk about how being able to save them both means that the whole thing's ruined makes me think these people either passed with flying colors or failed disastrously.

There are moments of a great thrill when one realizes that they beat the odds. So long as the scenario is believable, I'm happy to experience it. Besides, it offers more outcomes from decisions we make and I'm all for being able to have actual consequences for things I do in a game rather than the decision being of no consequence - like trying to get rid of Miranda during The Long Walk in ME2 and seeing that she's protected until the end.

Protected until the end? So she can do the vent run without dieing?

She's not an option for the tech specialist.

Dayam . . . Better than the original. No one gets left behind > Kaiden/Ashley dead.

Kaidan sucks, so I'm glad this option wasn't there.

Reave>Marksman, but it's for the children, I suppose.

What? You can choose anyone for that part. Hell, it's the main way Jacob haters get him killed, they make him do the vents.

No you can't. It gives you a list of squadmates to choose from. Not everyone is an option.

None of those have Miranda as tech specialist.

I say=wrong, here's a bunch of people that aren't but were still choosable

you say=nuh uh, I didn't see Miranda in those videos

Your argument sucks.

No I said not everyone is an option. You gave videos for 2/12 people.

The Save Both option is probably for something like a "Mass Effect Complete Collection Set" which would be available in about a year and a half, and requires you to import an ME3 savegame into ME1.

Sorry to say, but if they add some more updates to the three games (more weapon variety, improved graphics and improved mako controlls in ME1, weapon customization and a load of extra quests, plus making the story more relevant to the war vs reapers in ME2, removing auto dialogue and adding a bunch of side quests and perhaps some ME2 squadmates in ME3), I'd probably buy it.

The only way that Miranda can actually die (not make it to ME3) is if she is taken to fight the human reaper while being normal (non-loyal).  Otherwise, she has her own special plot armor.  Without knowing how things work, it's actually quite difficult to kill her off.

Not everyone is available for all the options, but you are given a pretty diverse set.  For tech specialist, you can choose from: Mordin, Garrus, Tali, Legion, Jacob, and.. maybe Thane?  Miranda is only available for fire team, biotic barrier, second team, and as part of your final squad.

She is also notoriously difficult to kill.

They wanted one of them to die.

I can see that.  In Dragon Age 2 they took out an option to save a character because apparently all the testers chose to do so.  Forced drama is apparently better than player choice.

Admittedly, Virmire is still great since it incorporates both choice and drama.

i dont like how the dialogue is so vague. it's like they're deliberately NOT telling how to save both of them and just want to tease us lol. but i know thats not the case, not deliberately.

I completely regret leaving Kaidan, he's such a nice guy, while all Ashley does is bicker, and yes her bickering is worse.

I think most male players decided to "sacrifice" Kaidan

Speak for yourself. Every poll I remember coming across has the results being pretty close to each other, being close to 50/50. I, myself, prefer Kaidan as well as all my other friends (both male and female) who've played the game.

Poils on BSN are one thing but I recall Bioware's own data shows a majority of players saved Ashley like 70 to 30.

Kaidan is one of the best squadmates in ME3 but he's also the rarest. Oh and shouldn't you be trolling Jeffy? LOL

Nah bro. Ashley was a beast in ME1. She had immunity. The single best power in the game. Plus high explosive sniper rifles.
