Akira is incredibly overrated. Some boy shouts a lot, another mutates into a blob and then a city explodes.
... actually that pretty much describes every sci-fi anime ever made.

The Akira anime was good in my opinon, but it was a watered down version of the manga. I mean obviously if you're going to take a book or manga series, and turn it into a movie there is going to be alot of stuff missing.
Just don't lump all anime together as if they're all the same thing. Because the same exact thing can be said for western film. and media.

Mass Effect is changing its target audience, and I'm not in it. What started out as a thoughtful sci-fi setting with music designed to carry the Blade Runner vibe and dialogue that Picard could've spoken now became a goddamn Power Rangers episode full of space ninjas, space marines, anime and cringeworthy oneliners.
Enjoy selling to the 12-18 year old male demographic, Bioware. You are doubtlessly shifting your focus to this easily exploitable market because of your boundless artistic integrity.
Not just Mass Effect. Dragon Age too. So, we can say that Bioware is changing its target audience.

So with all do respect to your taste.

Yeah, but Halo: Legends was a collection of multiple entries by multiple studios. Some were passable, others were godawful.
This is a one shot. If it misses, it misses by a mile.

Pot calling the kettle black based on how straw-men are misdirections by some people trying to turn opinions into facts. Currently this is whats happening to Anime in this topic even when most western animations are either heavily or moderately influenced since the 70s.jreezy wrote...

I see that you're still using straw-men especially when you'll say that "red" and "read" have the same meaning based on "critically" with
"reading comprehension". Again reading comprehension doesn't come into play with a word that has multiple meaning with the same spelling.
This statement is just wrong on so many levels. Honestly I'd be interested in hearing what your definition of reading comprehension is because it clearly must not be the ability to understand a written work (the actual definition).
Why don't you just admit that you misinterepreted my original question and just chalk up your subsequent posts as being a misunderstanding? You are just destroying whatever credibility you have by carrying on like this.

Here's another peice of irony since you screwed up on be starting your arguement on financial success and then switched to critical success when you were proven wrong. Btw you would be the person destroying their credibility based on you're trying to use your opinion as fact and insulting people for a difference of opinion.StevenG_CT wrote...

critical success when you were proven wrong. Btw you would be the

I would note that the actual irony is that I did in fact give a definition but your lack of reading comprehension
caused you to miss it. Since you apparently can't be bothered to take
the time to contemplate what you have just read I will break it down for
you.
Definition of "reading comprehension" = The ability to understand a written work.
As
any elementary school language teacher will tell you the ability to
discern the meaning of words based on the context in which they are used
is an important aspect of this skill
Your assertion that reading
comprehension is not required to discern the meaning of words that can
have multiple definitions with the same spelling is farcical. Since I
know you will continue to claim this if I don't give you an example I
will provide one.
A good example is the word "bent". This word
can be used alternatively as either an adjective or a noun and has the
same spelling in either usage.
Consider the following two sentences:
1. The rod was literally bent.
2. Rod had a literary bent.
When
used as an adjective the word "bent" is basically defined as "not
straight". When used as a noun the word "bent" is defined as "an
interest or inclination". Using skills of reading comprehension you should
be able to determine which is the appropriate definition to use in each
sentence because they will not make sense otherwise. Clearly the word
is used as an adjective in the first sentence and as a noun in the
second. Knowing this, the sentences could be rewritten as follows to
illustrate their meanings:
1. The rod was literally bent. --> The rod was literally not straight.
2. Rod had a literary bent. --> Rod had an interest in literature.
Now
let's take a look at the question that started this all: "Would you
care to name a single video game movie that had critical success?".
In this case the word "critical" is used as an adjective and as you have noted there are several possible definitions. One of the definitions for "critical" is "of or pertaining to critics or criticism", and this was my intended meaning. Another definition for "critical" is "of essential importance", which
seems to be the definition you interpreted. Let's take a look at how
these definitions look when substituted for the word "critical" in the
original question:
Definition = "of or pertaining to critics or criticism"
Would
you care to name a single video game movie that had critical success?
--> Would you care to name a single video game movie that had success
with critics?
Definition = "of essential importance"
Would you care to
name a single video game movie that had critical success? --> Would
you care to name a single video game movie that had important success?
You
will notice that when the first definition is used the resulting
question makes perfect sense. On the other hand when the second
definition is used the question ends up sounding somewhat strange and
redundant. This alone should have been enough for you to determine the
correct definition to use but in this case there was also some
contextual foreshadowing. Given that debating the quality of a film is
by definition "criticism" you should have noted that the first
definition I gave makes much more sense contextually.
Hope you enjoyed the free language lesson!
As an aside, since when is stating that someone didn't understand a question considered an insult?

StevenG_CT, you do realize that arguing with Bluep is as fruitless as banging your head repeatedly against the wall, right? RShara's right, he's just going to call strawman on you, or not so subtly insult you. It's like someone fed a dictionary of commonly used internet debate phrases into a computer, and now it's posting under the name Blueprotoss.
Indeed. I determined this after our first couple of exchanges. It's been fun seeing just how far he/she is willing to drag out the argument but ultimately it's not worth the effort. I'll be interested to see the response to my language lesson but I'm probably done now unless Blueprotoss comes up with a particularly hilarious retort.
