So....I've been playing this game nonstop since release and I LOVE it, but I can feel myself starting to get burned out from playing it over and over 24/7.  I'm not a hardcore gamer so to speak so I don't really know what titles may be really good that I haven't heard of. I would have never known about DAO if I hadn't seen the commercial on TV.  lol   I've played mostly MMO's like WoW, Guild Wars, NWN, etc. . DAO and the Witcher are pretty much the only single player games I've played but I like them better because of the stories.  I love the fantasy adventure/RPG type games (I HATE first person shooters) with great stories and possibly romances. The story and romance aspect of DAO is what really made me fall in love with the game.  I've heard a few things about Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic but space/sci fi games have never really interested me although I might try it if the stories are REALLY good and really draw you in like this game.  My question is, are there any other PC games out there like DAO?  Such as "if you love DAO you will like _____."?  I really need something else to play, that will keep my attention while I wait on more download content or expansions.  lol

I think you listed most. KOTOR and Mass Effect will have the same effect as DA probably, the storyline will totally suck you in (even if Mass Effect is even more clichée-ridden than DA's), I'd recommend playing both. Then there's the usual "best RPGs" list with titles like Baldur's Gate and Vampires: Masquerade and Oblivion and all that. But if you're looking for a game close to DA's art of storytelling, it's probably the two before mentioned Bioware titles that will suit you best. Give Mass Effect a try.

KotOR is the absolute best game ever made. The story is a trillion times better than anything else.

Well, you mentioned NWN, already played NWN2?

Fable 1 &2 were really nice games.

i see you don't like FPS games, but ever considered trying Fallout3, or Oblivion?

those are the only ones that come to mind now. I'll add more if remember other titles.

Hmmm finding another game like DA:O is pretty hard, this game is like a breakthrough on the RPG genre, much like Half-life was for the shooters.

NWN2 MotB is pretty nice.

DnD rules so lots of rooms to customize your character. Story is nice. Party members are pretty (actually very unique compare to the games you listed) unique.

NwN2 is really nice. classic "Save the world" type of story in a Forgotenn Realms setting. It has however nice characters, nice twists and lots of dialogue. :) And when you finish the main NwN2 campaign, prepare for the MotB expansion. Its much, much better. Character's more original, plot is more personal one, it is much darker and it has great replay value. Not to mention new races\\classes it adds. For the second expansion, Storm of Zehir...skip it. Its like NwN 1 with better graphic... No character personalization in that one, no cinematics and a boring story... :) MotB is a must! :)

Even though I still play NWN2 multiplayer every day, the original campaign wouldn't be on my list of recommend games. MotB though is a very good expansion, they turned the mood of the game upside down there and really showed some originality the OC was missing. It's the expansion I'd recommend playing. SoZ on the contrary is only interesting for PnP enthusiasts, not for those interested in a personal story and companion relationships.

Edit: The Witcher is already in the list of the OP's games, otherwise it'd be close to the top on my recommended list.

If you don't mind the 2d graphics (which honestly don't look worse than the angular-choppy early 3d's of NWN series / Oblivion etc), you should most definitely look into Baldur's Gate 2. The writing in that game is top-notch, the characters are incredible and very memorable, and overall it's a great game which fortunately looks fine enough even by modern standards to be playable. Original Baldur's Gate was great as well, unfortunately trying to get it to run in a resolution above 640x480 is a huge hassle and overall it looks a lot worse. Another title worth looking at is Planescape: Torment; I'm not sure why is that game so obscure, perhaps because it's sort of... not as mainstream as many other RPGs out there, but if you get into it, you won't get out of it until you finish it, that I can guarantee. Again, 2d graphics but it doesn't look 'that' awful (same engine as BG2, but actually far better special effects and more varied character models), and the story in that game is simply the best I've ever read in my 20 years of gaming.

Mass Effect is a possible match for you. Yes, it's sci-fi, but the design is similar to DAO.

While I liked KotOR, the gameplay is quite different from DAO and the Witcher, and I found the story much thinner. That's a common view, though not the only one, as you see even in this thread.

NWN: Hordes of the Underdark is less likely to be a good fit. The story isn't as firmly in the spotlight, and though there's an amusing companion, there's less emphasis on character and romance. While I personally didn't like NWN, I'm not trying to detract from the enjoyment of anyone who did; I just want to caution that it may not be as good a match for you, Zenrau. Similarly, Bethesda games, like Oblivion, probably don't offer much that you don't get in your MMO's.

Baldur's Gate 2 places high value on story, character, and romance, but it's old in terms of computer games, so you'll need to decide if the design feels all right to you.

I haven't tried NWN2. Any veterans want to say how much it values story and character?

Not like this but as much a great game as this. Risen by the piranhas! It also redeems them for Gothic 3 (which is a much better game with a 900MB community patch though)

And definitely, DA 2!

+1...well maybe not better then anything else but it is Bioware's finest work (edging out the Gate)

although not as good as the orginal, KOTOR II is also a fine game and both feel more like fantasy RPG's rather then sci-fi.

NWN2 has a solid story and a few solid characters.  I enjoyed it far more then the witcher, a game that lacked story or characters but NWN2 suffers from a few things....

some mundane voice acting and cut scenes
your party walk around like they have a stick up thier behinds
the worst RPG camera in some time, it always give you the view you dont want

It's a little dated now, and there's no romance, but Diablo II: Lord of Destruction will literally take you to hell and back again. Each "Chapter" you complete, it rewards you with a movie introducing the next chapter.

ehh.. to each their own.  I guessed the twist pretty early.  The first 25% of the game is really really good though.

I don't know about you guys, but i tried playing KOTOR 1 &2 and could not finish because i was drowning in game-breaking bugs, even after installing all possible fixes. :(

Anyone else experienced this or was it just my (really) bad luck? :crying:
