If you like rts games try Spellforce2. The campaign is really fun and although the graphics are a bit dated it has a few similarities to Dragon Age. All the dialog is voiced, you can ad members to join you as you meet them in your quest, the camera goes into close up 3rd person or can be pulled back for a strategic view, level up skill/spell trees for your party, and lots and lots of items. The expansion pack is also fun and the campaign only has a few levels where you actually play the rts part of the game. There is also a new expansion pack coming out!

KOTOR, KOTOR 2, and Mass Effect 1, and Mass Effect 2 when it comes out. Those are rpgs with great story and gameplay. I recomend you try them.

[You mean "Defender of the Crown", which I played on my Amiga 500 back then. In fact, while having been some fun, it actually wasn't a great game.

I, too, had an Amiga 500.  I remember playing Defender of the Crown, all the while wishing it was a tad better.

On the Amiga, I also played which I thought was a great RPG series: The Bard's Tale.  Hey, back then, being isolated in GTMO, I thought The Bard's Tale was great.  It would be horrribly dated now, since it was on floppy disks, but I burned a lot of midnight oil playing that static game.  I was obsessed with it.

Heh, I loved this game, found this link a while ago, may bring back some memories for those that remember,

Enjoy ;)

If you haven't played the Baldur's Gate series or Planescape Torment make yourself a favor and do it. Yes, they might be a bit dated but it shouldn't bother you too much if you really love excellent story, characters and quests. In fact they easily beat DAO in these categories and are widely considered to be some of the best cRPGs ever released.

Once you finish with those you can pretty much pick and play any RPG from BioWare. All of them are great and quite similar to DAO (with Mass Effect being slightly different because of all the shooting).

The closest thing of DA that looks amazing still is The Witcher, just get it. Mature game, dark, elves are hated, you play sort of a grey warden (that hunts monsters instead of darkspawn) you get "laid" with a lot of ladies (and get pretty collectible in-game sexy cards of them). Get from the uk direct2drive store I believe the one in the USA is censored.

Mass Effect also looks great, plays great, ME2 is right around the corner (next month!) and you get to continue the saga with the same character!

Everything else similar is pretty much abandonware. Kotor was my favorite game until DA came out, but it looks really dated, if you don't mind it's like 5 bucks on the direct download sites, like www.steampowered.com

:)

Have fun!

Despite its horrendous bugginess I really liked Ultima: Ascension (9?). The graphics were really impressive at the time and being able to mess around with all kinds of crap and basically just wander around and explore the game world was rather enjoyable.

My question is, are there any other PC
games out there like DAO?  Such as "if you love DAO you will like
_____."?  I really need something else to play, that will keep my
attention while I wait on more download content or expansions.  lol

Thing is, it REALLY depends on in what manner does that new game have to be similar to DA for it to interest you? I've seen people mentioning KotOR and ME and they aren't really such a great match, at least if you're looking into actual gameplay (not to say these games are bad or anything, quite the opposite). You're looking for older titles like Baldur's Gate series (Anomen and Aerie romance, anyone?), Icewind Dale series (if you prefer greater emphasis on actual battle) and similar games.

But if it's romance you're looking for than I'd advise you to try JRPGs, that's usually their department.

I still say according to the OP's description, she would have a blast with Diablo II: LOD and you can get the entire Battle Chest with full players guide for $20.00.

It's very easy to get started with, and understand, yet has a lot of depth and replay value. Especially when trying to complete a unique armor set! You want a lot of levels of medieval weapons and armor, with an incredible variety, D:II rules and has for many many years. And unlike DA:O you don't retire a character until you've taken them through normal, nightmare, and hell mode!

Hey, I didn't know about that mod. Been waiting for the other one for years, but pretty much gave up hope. Off topic, but thanks for the info.
