I have over 20 perfectly good games installed on my computer, and I am finally on vacation.... but I can't find the motivation to play any of them. (Borderlands, Divinity 2 ego dragonis, Torchlight, Necrovision, Prototype, etc)

Why is it when you are busy with work, you can't wait for a free moment to play, and when you have all the time in the world you can't even start the damn game?

Maybe I should get a job on vacation so I can enjoy my games... Or maybe I am just bored with everything that has been released recently. Any suggestions for interesting games while we wait for mass effect 2?

I have the same problem. I buy a brand new game and then play it for about an hour even if the game rocks. Although I was motivated to beat Dragon Age. I have Batman and have only gone in the second area but have stopped playing. The game rocked but can't seem to get into it.

I have over a hundred games I have the exact same problem with.

It's a luxury problem like no other.

Is Divnity 2 out in Canada already? I thought it didn't hit NA until sometime in the New Years.

It isn't supposed to be out in North America until the first week of January. I'm keeping close tabs on this game, having been a big fan of the previous two. If it was out, I'd probably be playing it now instead of writing this post. :P

As to the OP's question: I'm afraid I can't offer any more answers than anyone else that replied. I have a backlog of games that literally stretches back years. Many of them are still in their original shrinkwrap. Despite how popular they may have been at the time, I could never motivate myself to play them. Even when I do play, it's a test of will for me to finish a game. I've had DA since November 3rd and haven't completed it *once* yet due to chronic restarts. I envy those that can buy a game, finish it, and move on... the way I used to during the 16-bit days. :(

That's pretty much how I felt about BG1 and 2 but for different reasons.
It didn't appeal to me and in the end I lost interest.

The games you've listed are all very similar and focus on one character that you improve and fight with so what about trying a different style of game? Maybe a strategy game like Europa Universalis III (I'd recommend getting the complete version) or Men of War?

It can't be that great of a game if it can't even get you to play!

Funny, back in the 16-bit days I chronically restarted games and never finished them. Now I rarely leave a game if I can do more than start it. But I've also found higher quality games, many of which I missed over the years such as BG or SW: KotOR. That and I have a better understand of what I enjoy.

I had no problems completing DA:O. Why are you restarting? Are you unsatisfied with your character? Does the game itself interest you?

It's the nature of my approach to any game with options. I started out with a mage specced differently than my current one. Then tried two varieties of rogue, and now ended up going back to mage. Basically, if I get a choice of more than one build I sample several of them, if not all until I find the one I'm willing to take all the way through. Bad as it's been with DA, I took me a lot longer to clear BG2. Approaching six months, if memory serves. I also fell prey to this with KotOR. I would get to the Jedi training, then decide I wanted a different base class or Jedi type, or stat or feat distrubution... and started over.

Other than Mass Effect I have done this with anything remotely resembling an RPG. After I finally get through that first game it becomes much easier though.

It was simpler in the SNES, Genesis, later PS1 & Saturn era because those games didn't give me many options. They were very linear for the most part. I didn't have to make any serious mechanical choices to finish a Final Fantasy game or something like Parasite Eve.

Nice advice. I bought call of duty 2 modern warfare a week or so ago and I am having a blast playing online. A change of pace was exactly what I needed!

I have the same problem of never finishing games. I'll play for days straight, get 90% of the way through and then never touch it again. It's gotta be some kind of freaky psychological issue...

What's weird is that most of my favourite games are ones that are practically impossible to ever "finish". Games like Pokemon and Disgaea. I've put hundreds of hours into them...

Go bowling.

Eat lunch at a park.

Go for a walk somewhere scenic.

Do something with friends/family.

Read a book.

I finally forced myself to finish my dragon age game with my evil mage. Took some effort though. This time of year I can't get into anything, but come Spring and longer days, it starts coming back.

I often get like that, what I do is a play a game to death until It bores me, then I can go play something else that I have not touched for a long while to peak my interest again.

Same way i get with Mass Effect. its a good game but i cant get into it anymore. It could be though that I beat it so many times...

If that happens i just put in another game (different genre) like my MW2 or Madden 10...then once i play them awhile i go back and Im able to play game like Mass Effect again...its a wonderful cycle...:)
