So what changes were made to the new Patch 1.02a? The Changelog is still the old one from 1.02, just the version was edited...

I noticed that change earlier today and I am just as curious to know what, if anything, changed. Sadly, I suspect that it's simply a renaming/rewording of the 1.02 patch in order to allow for patch 1.02b to be released without confusion.

Nope, this differs in size and version.

1.02a file size is different than 1.02, but when you run it, the prompt says it is going to update the client to 1.02. Bleh.

It does go through a list of files essentially stating that it found the same file and skips it, but it was moving so fast I was unable to see which, if any, it replaced. Unfortunately, the Dragon Age Origins 1.02.log, while showing the patch install as complete today, doesn't indicate which files it skipped/updated.

I realy would love to read the log first before installing this incremental update.

Since DA updates aren't incremental but contain all previous updates the skipping is to be expected. The build version of 1.2a is marginally higher than 1.02. Both archive and uncompressed file size differ, with a being slightly larger.

Sure. My point was that it'd tell you which file it did overwrite if it didn't go by so fast or if it kept a log of the files it skipped/overwrote.

I agree, would be much preferrable to see the actual file output changes listed there, the logged data really isn't much help.

Out of curiousity, I unpacked the two patches to compare.  Warning:  none of this information is actually worth anything, or explains anything, but I'm bored ;)

1.02a contains an extra file named "designerscripts.rim"  I have no idea what this is, but looking in the file, it looks like the same file type as an .erf.  Otherwise, both packages seem to contain the same files, except that some of 1.02a files have an older modified date (although this doesn't necessarily mean anything important:  various activities can re-stamp file dates).  All the other sizes appear to be the same size -- I'm not bored enough to run diff utility on the thing, anyway.

I tried to force the command window to stay open during update, but my attempt failed.  So, I, too, have no log of the install.

Oh well...

Hmmm, interesting, I thought it was just a renaming to 1.02a without any changes to release 1.02b afterwards and fix Rally or something.

I'm curious now though about what has changed...

file differences from 1.02 to 1.02a

\\bin_ship\\DAOriginsGDF.dll -> this Dynamic Link Library file seems to change with every patch, most probably GUI/Windows explorer/Windows Game Explorer related, correct me if i am wrong

\\packages\\core\\data\\designerscripts.rim

I hope they will fix the DLC issues, regarding disappearing of wardens keep items and disappearing of wardens keep location in the world map, making it unaccessible.

I would have thought if it had fixed something like DLC problems they would have said. Still...

I don't know if anyone else has any problems, but since I've installed this patch, about 5 minutes into playing the game, Dragon Age: Origins gets VERY jumpy. It's framerate is about .5/second. No matter how I change the video settings it still does this. Does anyone know how to un-install a patch? I'd hate to have to re-install the game...again.
