I'm sure I'll be unable to prevent the springing forth of a baker's dozen new fan hypotheses, here, but I'm pretty sure for the record they just meant they're all equally canon, and whatever the fans choose is their own personal canon.

I'm also somewhat confident if future Mass Effect games are set after the end of the war, BioWare will go ahead and pick one, anyway, but that doesn't technically make player choice any less valid. It'd just be one potential path, made product.

I guess that if we have a ME4 it will have "Pures", "Hybrids", Reapers, the Citadel rebuilt, Krogan/Quarian "survivors" and Geth "Rebuilt"

And if you ask, they'll make the classic answer of almost all rpg sequels:
"It was a long time ago, we don't know the details"

Heck, they already forgot most of the details 200-300 years into the future. Talk about lousy space opera bookkeeping. Star Trek's Janeway could recite lines from Captain Kirk like they were Shakespeare. And Shakespeare... well, I don't have to tell ya how long he's been dead, and he didn't even save the darn galaxy!
