It's funny that you mention a Prothean Energy Thingy... they are at a Prothean ruin, after all. Who knows what they might find? Aside from me, of course, since I'm currently working on Chapter 34... Image IPB Incidentally, this is the hardest time to be four Chapters ahead in my writing. There's a lot coming up that I'm anxious to share. It's tough to stay on schedule and not release things ahead of time.

But you are right that there should be various technologies available to serve as lie detectors. Although I'm sure there would be various countermeasures too. Of course, if your interogatee does... what that guy did, you still end up with the same result. A dead guy and no info. Without spoiling future events, I can't really expand on what Salik may or may not have access to as an STG member, but at least they still have the archive itself to search for clues.

Thank you as always for reading, and for your thoughts and comments. And Happy Thanksgiving as well, or Happy Thursday if you don't celebrate the holiday. And incidentally, the same to anyone who happens to pop in and read this. Hope everyone has a great Holiday/Weekend.

I should have posted that I liked the night-fight. The "unnecessary" smoke grenade was a good touch.

Holding back what you think is well done is hard, like when you get that "perfect" Christmas gift for someone. Kudos on your self-control =D

And yes, it was a good Thanksgiving, hope yours went well also.

Awwwww....*puts away pitchfork* well played sir!

Excellent "coming into her own" for Illitha, one of my favorite characters. Everyone can identify with the intelligent individual with warlike tendencies, I suppose, lol.

Is it just me, or am I detecting a pattern? Selura/Neela, Aida/Nisaria, now Illitha and potential? Meh, I probably read far too much literary analysis back in W131.

Best part for me was the gaining of supplies. A lot of the story has been about loss, dealing with loss and so forth. It was nice to see something go right =D

Until next time

~Edit: Forgot to mention; Zaeed and his Mattock....carnage is about to ensue...

I'm glad that you like Illitha. She is one of those characters that I always intended to have an important role in the story, but over the course of writing it, she somehow came into an even more prominent role than I originally planned. But people seem to like her, which is good.

And yes indeed. Zaeed finally got his Mattock. I actually hadn't even realized that Neela got one first until you pointed it out, but the observation made me laugh. You've made several observations and predictions that were very astute. Perhaps the literary analysis is paying off. Or I'm very predictable. Or both. Both is certainly possible. Image IPB

Even though circumstances almost forced me to delay publishing this Chapter several times, I can happily say that as promised, Chapter 31 is online! Image IPB

The Prothean Energy Thingy makes its first appearance!

One thing I've enjoyed is how you don't overpower your characters. Having everyone just "discover" rare weapons, techniques and instantly master them cheapens the entire experience.

On the other hand, ignoring the inherent potential of a new universe, where artifacts of an ancient, forgotten race could be found is equally cheap. Moderation in everything, including moderation =D

Here we are, and my latest update, Chapter 33, is now online!

And thank you for the compliment, btw. Sorry I didn't see it sooner. I have always hated when characters inexplicably gain new skills that are never addressed, or when they just stumble across a treasure trove of powerful gear. I've been trying really hard to account for changes in skill level or the discovery of new tech over the course of the story. Especially with my running theme of resources being scarce.

I like what I've read so far. I find your OCs far more interesting than the established character(s) you've used.

If you'd allow me to nitpick, I don't think asari get scars due to their cellular regeneration, but I can't say for sure.

Looking forward to the next chapters! :)

Well, thank you for your interest in the story. And I don't mind nitpicking. All comments, questions and critiques are welcome. Whether I agree or not, it's always just as good to know what I may be doing wrong as it is to know what I am doing right. :)

I hope that going forward, you continue to find the story entertaining and interesting.

Regeneration would heal scars, true, but I'm guessing the advanced age of asari would be more due to longer telomerase chains than just regeneration. Or would it? The longer an asari lives, the fewer scars show? Would that count for nerve regeneration? Adult stem cell research has made a lot of advances in neuro-medicine even now, would the asari have had the same thing?

The krogan and vorcha are the only races that were ever mentioned as having regenerative abilities, to my knowledge. Asari just have exceptional longevity, not cellular regeneration in my view. Which means scars are definitely possible. But again, maybe I've overlooked something.

*Warning for new or potential readers: minor spoiler follows*

As far as the nerve damage thing, remember that the doctor that told that character about that mentioned that it might be possible to repair the damage, but their surgeon didn't want to try because of the delicacy of the task and their limited medical knowledge of about her race. I certainly wasn't going to write off the possibility. Given the date, I'm sure the various races in Mass Effect can manage to repair a lot of different things that we currently couldn't hope to repair. It would just require a surgeon with intimate knowledge of asari anatomy and physiology.

To quote the codex: "Asari have a robust cellular regenerative system."

You had me worried for a moment, so I went and looked it up. You forgot the second part. "While they do not heal faster than any other species, asari are known to reach 1000 years of age." If they don't heal faster, then in my view, scarring is still possible. But again, it's only a matter of opinion. I think I'm justified in deciding that asari with scars are possible. But others could definitely be justified in saying the opposite.

I stand corrected. It can indeed mean both. I was, as said, just nitpicking. Doesn't change my opinion of the story overall in any way.

No, no! I appreciate you pointing it out to begin with. While it is too late to go back and change it now, as I make a policy of not rewriting the seconds that I already published, I have been trying very hard to keep my story from going against the established universe, and only to expand on it where I see the need. If I had been wrong about it (and the argument still could be made that I am... as I said, that one could justifiably be taken either way), I would have wanted to know so I could avoid doing it again in the future. That was why I went to look when you quoted the codex. I thought you were right because I did remember reading that. I'm just glad there was more.

Either way, I'm still very appreciative that you are enjoying the story, and feel free to nitpick as you please. As I said previously, all comments and criticisms are welcome. The only way I will ever improve as a writer is if I can spot and recognize my mistakes, so the feedback is very, very appreciated.

One question about the quarian Neela, why don't the interns/docctors construct a suction tube? Allergic reactions can create a great deal of mucous, which inhibits breathing. One method for fixing that is to remove the mucous from the respiratory system via a vacuum pump; highly uncomfortable, but used a lot with cystic fibrosis patients (I believe).

Additionally, suction has been used a great deal for surgery, keeping blood from the operating area and cleaning up deitrus from infected/operated areas. They're dead simple to manufacture as well, a siphon for example could be made with just a bucket of water and a length of hose.

It's certainly possible to rig up something like that. We'll see how it plays out over the upcoming Chapters. And speaking of upcoming Chapters, Chaper 35 is now up! Image IPB

Amazing, as always. I disagree a bit about the asari physical maturity, but the lore does allow it be interpreted both ways. One thing's for certain, asari are considered kids until 50-60 somewhere.
