buy it without hesitation. KOTOR, along with Baldur's Gate series, DA:O, ME1 and 2, TES: Morrowind, Temple of Elemental Evil and Deus Ex 1/ Human Revolution are pretty much the RPG classics of all times.

in your place i'd get all those games if they were on sale and prepare myself for complete isolation from the world that will last about a month. it's also not an uncommon side effect to become utterly unsatisfied and disenchanted with the real world after playing through all those games in a row.

Any pre-EA Bioware game is worth it.

KOTOR?

get it now!

And it is so old that I don't think anyone would have any problems running it on PC

Same deal, though sith lords is by Obsidian not Bioware, it's also a rush job, there's a ton of cut content.

Took me almost an hour to make it work on my win 7 (same with bloodlines and a few others... most challenging was System Shock 2) but after that initial unpleasant experience, it works perfectly

Really?
I bought it from Steam and it worked right from the start for me with Win7. But I had to get a patch for it because it doesnt support 1920x1080 from the start.

Every system is different. For some people a game may work with no problem at all, and for others it may require to download a patch or run compatibility mode.

For example Mass Effect worked perfectly for me on my Win 7 machine... but a friend had to tweak settings for almost 2 days before it worked on his.

not bad but it was a rushed job as the company making it ran out of money and had to stop, i still enjoyed though, if you enjoy KOTOR i'd get it

Normal Brick, this was before EA was making deals with Elevation Partners to secure Bioware.

KOTOR2 is what's known in polite circles as a ****ing tragedy.
Excellent writing and a rather unique plot (for Star Wars) crippled by a rushed released date.

If you get it at all, get it for the PC and use the restoration mod otherwise it's an incomplete game.
I don't mean just lacking dialogue, locations and plot. I mean the later half of the game feels like an alpha. It uses placeholder models for the last enemies!

I forget the link but you should find it if you search for KOTOR 2 restoration project or something like that.
It restored a lot of content, including a whole planet, events at Malachor V and the HK-50 factory.

Get it. Pretty amazing game, I'm going to have to go against the flow and say that Jolee Bindo, not HK47, was my favorite squaddie. Great sidequests, conversations and whatnot. A lot of people say that the first planet is really boring, I would say that's true for repeat playthroughs. Suffers from the whole Jedi Outcast dealie of spending a long time without force powers or a lightsaber. My favorite character is Jedi Guardian (lightsaber focused) with dual sabers and force speed spam.

Get KoTOR 2 as well, and google "The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod". 2 was made by Obsidian, not Bioware, but it has some very interesting characters in there. If you thought ME3 was tough, they only had 13 months development, a completely new writing team and the lead writer Chris Avellone had absolutely no familiarity with the Star Wars universe beyond cultural memes. It's a heavily flawed game, but given the circumstances I think they did a very good job. Also, Force Storm.

lol okay, will avoid that then.

placeholder models in KOTOR2.

sprites in ME3.

Some things never change.

My laptop wouldn't have the slightest capability of running ME1 I don't think. It's more of a study laptop, the audio is terrible. So i'm not sure about getting it.

While we're on the subject, what about SWTOR, the mmo?

Are the conversations voiced? Or subtitled?

Voiced. TSLRCM basically tried to salvage as much of the content that was already there. For example, there was one ~1 hr section featuring HK47 that was fully voiced and scripted and just needed to get past bug testing, but Obsidian had to cut it because LucasArts pushed for Christmas release. That's back in there. There's also more party interaction in the endgame - the original concept was that in the endgame sequences, every party member gets their own time to shine with a big speech, playable section or some other character defining moment, but in the full game they only fit in like half of the characters. That got the knife in the original release.
