High EMS + Destroy = Hope to have my Shep alive. More than a hope for me : my Shep is alive. It's my understanding : the war is over, Shep is alive, a new story begins for him.

How is that a game that stared out as the videogame star wars or star trek. You space adventures where the hero can the greatest paragon or the most badass renegade. A series in which you get to enjoy the thrill of beating impossible odds and living to tell about. How did bioware go from optimistic scifi to gritty, fatalistic bleakness that, according to some gives you the choices that real war would give.
I love mass effect, i want shepard but that brief comment that putting the breath scene to give a slim branch of hope because the endings MIGHT be a bit bleak? That just baffles me.
Why can't we have heroic upbeat scifi victory in anything anymore. Why does everything have to be so gloomy and ambiguous.

Also honestly tying the breath scene down to only Shepard's last breath would be yet another low of bad story telling. If you read a book, watch a movie, or watch a tv series where the story sets up the final battle of the hero with the hero being presumed dead though victorious at the end and then in the epilogue chapter or after the credits roll you see/read a scene of the hero making a breath or comming to, you don't assume its the hero dying as at that point you'd just be beating a dead horse unless the hero has some grand revelation in that last moment.

Yep obviously far too much effort for them. We should just be glad they actually bothered with an ending at all. They'd probably have much preferred just to cut to black after Cronos and have us all imagine what the final battle would be like. Much more open to speculation and that's how a good ending is made according to them.

For my Shepard, closure and the finale ends like this
Commander Adam Shepard was recovered from the Citadel wreckage after immediate orders from Admiral Hackett to see if there were survivors from the reaper's occupation that preceded the Citadel's closing and events thereafter by TIM.
Shepard lay on life support aboard the Normandy battered, broken, comatose clinging to life. Dr Chakwas and Miranda Lawson poured over the Lazarus Project data to see what could be done again. Sadly, the cybernetic implants were...missing from Shepar'd body causing organ and tissue failure and much internal bleeding barely contained.
The crew at their stations were on edge waiting to hear, anything of their CO's status. His friends and teammates surrounded the bed. Tali, his LI, her mask off, tears streaming down her face was comforted by Garrus and Liara. She didn't care about airborne illness. Her life was hooked up to monitors beeping away. Besides the collective pain of seeing Shepard, was the shared thought " I never realized Quarians were so beautiful ". Joker , who used humor as a shield against the universe couldn't resist the thought, "damn, if I knew Tali was that freaking cute, I'd have made a play for her".
Miranda shoulders slumped, faced these friends and teammates she worked with when she used to believe in Cerberus. When they rallied around Shepard to destroy the collector base.
"There's nothing else we can do," her always so confident voice cracked. " the damage is too extensive for even what we did before to bring him back."
"No!! " cried Tali " You brought him back from the Normandy exploding, burning in reentry,"
"His brain was intact then. Even if we did revive him, the damage to his cranium is too much. At best, he'd have the mind of a two year old forever"
Tali looked to garrus. His usually unreadable faced betrayed a single tear down his cheek and his eyes steeled. He nodded to Tali who asked the others to leave.
"Shepard, damn you" Garrus choked. " We were supposed to split the profit from the vids how we won the war"
He pulled out his Carniflex sidearms from its holster. " I still have your back my friend, my brother"
Tali leaned over to kiss her love, holding Garrus's hand while he aimed towards Shepard's head.
"Keelah Sa lai"

If helper said Shepard could possibly be dead why does almost everyone assume he died. I mean didn't he just say that so that if you want him to live he's alive and if you don't he's dead. I don't understand why so many people are using this as "proof" that he's dead. Isn't Helper one writer and this is HIS conclusion. It seems confusing because in this

Because seven other endings say he's dead. And this one was deliberately left ambiguous rather than definitive.

the most stupid idea EVER! in the oficial guide says: SHEPARD LIVES, Shepard's LI doesn't believe he/she is dead, etc! HOPE HOPE HOPE and What? "last gasp" rly? "the last gasp before death" is stupid! i dont care if die or not, but the whole scene makes you think otherwise. Shepard died ok! another hero to the next, but DONT DO THAT! is like a silly excuse.
