BW is dying, DA3 will be the final nail in the coffin. I will probably be stupid and naive enough to buy it once it comes out because I want it to be as good as Origins but I know I'm gonna be dissapointed just like I was after buying DA2 and ME3.

We'll see. I've been a BioWare fan since playing KOTOR and the BG series, and I have enjoyed their more recent games. DA2 and ME2 were interesting, enjoyable games even if they deviated from old school RPG models. ME3 is what really soured me, not so much over the game itself, but over the developers' attitude toward the criticism they received.

That being said, the DA team is completely separate from the ME team, and for the most part, I've liked what they've delivered. I will not preorder DA3, but I'll probably buy and play it.

Jose Aldo baby!
On topic, please please please do not buy DA3, buy it preowned, do not support this joke of a developer anymore until they start making good games again.

Yeah I probably wont. I wouldve back in the day but I've been hating on BW/EA for some time now. I'll wait til the game comes out, watch some playthroughs, read some (good) reviews and browse the forums. Should be pretty easy to see what kind of game we'll have and if it's not for me then I will probably stop paying attention to BW all together.
I'm sure Aldo would agree with us lol.

Yes. I do think they have the ability to make a great game and the DA3 can turn out enjoyable, fun, entertaining and heroic. I enjoyed DA:O and I also enjoy DA2. I actually play DA2 more, though there was a lot in DA:O that I enjoyed. Thee were issues with the 3rd act and everyone being nuts, but there was nothing in it I hated.

Will I pre-order it? No. I'll wait to see what they do with the ending(s) before I buy it. This will be the first game since KOTOR that I haven't pre-ordered.

I will buy it new if it looks like something I'll enjoy. I won't pre-order it if I don't know what the endings are and since I won't know that till it's out, no pre-order for me.  :)

I enjoyed DA:O, DA2, ME1 and ME2 actually all of their games prior to ME3.  ME3's lack of one heroic survival ending after a series of heroic possible endings is the only reason I won't pre-order DA 3.  It made me realize that they may go in a different direction then I enjoy so I'll wait and see.

But I have no doubt that they can make a good game.  It might just not be a game I want to play.

I don't doubt that there will be things about the game that will irritate me, such as fixed companion armor, but to be honest, almost every single one of my favorite games of all time have come out of Bioware- the exception being The Elder Scrolls series, and as we all know, Bethesda is another RPG juggernaut. No game has ever made as much of a mark on me as the Mass Effect trilogy or moved me like DA:O. Those epic adventures will never be forgotten. Bioware makes the kind of games that I enjoy, allows me to play my own gender, and allows me customization, too. I'll buy DA3 because I have to know what happens next to the world that they've created that so captured me. And that's kind of the point.

I am not a fan of ME at all so my experience of recent Bioware title is limited to DA2 and what I read about ME3 on the forum.
For me DA2 was not a good game because it was a rushed job with many major flaws (the recycling of the map being the most evident).
Moreover most of the design decision they have taken (although neither specially good nor bad decisions) were in a direction in a direct opposition to my tastes.

Do I believe that they have learned from their mistakes with DA2?
Honestly, I don’t know. The 2 DLCs of DA2 suggest that they have and that their next game will be of better quality.

Do I have confidence in Bioware to deliver a DA3 that I will like?
Not at all based on the few design decisions they have already announced (particularly the fact that they are going to keep the paraphrasing system).

Do I think that DA3 will be successful (when compared to DAO)?
No, even if it is a quality game. From what I have read everywhere on the forum and on the different poll I have seen, they are much more DA fan than disliked the design decision they took in DA2 than fan that liked them. If there are about 50% of fan that prefer a voiced protagonist and 50% that prefer a silent one the paraphrasing system was hated by most of the players (including many players that prefer a voiced protagonist). I cannot find any good reasons to keep it.

Why I am still here?
Because I am optimistic and I hope to find any piece of information suggesting that perhaps DA3 will be a game I will like (although I still haven’t found anything suggesting that).

My feeling is really similar to the one of Pasquale1234 except that I highly doubt that they'll deliver something of high-quality and well-received:

When it comes to Dragon Age 3?

I've not heard them make any formal announcement about Dragon Age 3.

I know they are very capable of delivering a game that can keep me mesmerized for hundreds of hours, because they've done that before. They've made it pretty clear, though, that they're taking this franchise in a different direction, and that direction is in direct opposition to gameplay features I can enjoy.

So - do I have faith in them to deliver?

Sure. They'll deliver something, maybe even something high-quality and well-received.

But I have zero faith in them delivering a game that I'll want to play, due to the changes in design and presentation.

Really wish I could help. I am typically quite optimistic, and I do expect they'll be making a lot of improvements... but I still don't think it's going to be a game I'll enjoy, either. Sorry.

I find also the point of view of RaggieRags rather interesting.

RaggieRags wrote...

I'm unsure myself. I've been a fan of Bioware from 1998. That's a long time... But if I look at the games they came up with in their earliest years, and compare them to the games they've come up with in the latest years, I can't help but admit Bioware is not what it used to be. From interviews and their current direction I've come to the conclusion I don't like their way of thinking anymore. It seems to me that it's a company with still a lot of passion, but it's directed by people who are more concerned with the business side of things rarther than the games themselves, unlike how things were at the beginning. I also have the feeling that some of the creative people have surrounded themselves with a bunch of yes-men and have become a little too self-absorbed for their own good. I might be wrong, but this is the feeling I get. I still have some feeling of resentment over how Bioware handled the fan critizism on ME3.

Bioware used to be about creating the kind of RPGs the doctors liked. Now Bioware is about making the kind of RPGs that will bring in the most amount of gamers, and milk them for all the money they can get. Things have changed. A lot of the people who made the games I love have left the company. My feelings have changed. I don't really trust Bioware the way I used to, and I definitely don't love it the way I used to. I'm becoming more and more disattached. DA3 has a lot to prove.

However I don’t think that they are making the kind of RPGs that will bring in the bigger amount of gamers. From everything I heard DAO sold more copies than DA2 and it still seems that they want to stick to the decisions they have taken for DA2.
Either they really believe that, if it is less rushed, the DA2 style would attract more players than the DAO style (and if they really believe that I think DA3 will be they last game). Or, they expect to earn more money by investing less rather than by selling more copies and even if DAO was a big success in matter of copy sold this kind of game cost to much to develop and they prefer to develop cheaper and less successful games (in term of copy sold).

Good post, it pretty much sums up my feelings about Bioware. It's going to be interesting seeing the sales of DA3 since the DA-fanbase have shrunk since DA2 and therefore the game have to make it's case on its own merits. I still think that Bioware will keep making quality games that will be well-recieved, it's just not the kind of games im interested in.

I think it's more likely that BioWare will drop the dialogue wheel for DA3 than it is for that fake Herve Caen poser bastardized Interplay studio "Black Isle" to ever release a game, let alone an RPG, let alone a good RPG.  Not to burst any bubbles.
