If any of the ME games are, then I suppose I can ignore the rest of their games, because the series ultimately turned out not to be that great.

Actually the only game worst than ME3 in bioware's curriculum is DA2.. Terrible terrible terrible.
The best would be DAO... Followed by ME1 and ME2.. those 3, are REAL good games..
ME3 and DA2 are just big disapointments.

That is the best game Bioware ever made? In the context of the technology available, I would have to say Baldur's Gate 2 hands down. Even at ten years old, the game is still shines even when compared with much newer games with much better resources and technology available.
IMHO BG2 is in a lot of ways the benchmark against what other CRPGs should be compared against.

I'd say ME 2 is better than 3 in some ways, but to be honest, nothing can touch the perfection that is KOTOR.

Mechanically... game play wise... visually... yes, ME3 is probably the best game Bioware has produced. I have no problem saying that. It has a very good blend of RPG and action elements, far better than any of their previous attempts. The environments given can be breathtaking, and feel very, very unique and real no matter where you go.
Storywise? Hard to say... mostly because opinions on that score are still clouded by bitterness and rage over the original ending. But let's not fool ourselves that any of the stories are particularly exceptional narratives, not even the golden child of ME1. Personally, I give that crown currently to KOTOR. That was a very tight narrative, if perhaps a bit simple in its execution.

Agree with this - I would put Baldur's Gate (1 and 2), DA:O, KOTOR and ME1 at a minimum before ME3.

Mass Effect 3 is easily the worst, to me. But I haven't played DA2 so who knows, I might be surprised. I doubt it will surpass the fail of ME3 however.

DA2 wasn't as bad - I didn't hate DA2, but it was definitely a severe downgrade from DA:O

DAO was the best game to date followed closely by ME2, then ME1, then DA2. This is by far my least favorite bioware game to date. And thats a shame because Tuchanka and Rannoch were beautifully done.
No even DA2 was more fun than this game was.
