note: DA:O was good too, just didn't like the combat. I play on console after all.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to make fun of you, I honestly thought you were joking,. But srlsy Dragon Age 2 was a failure, thats why they gave up making dlc for it (no matter what they say), even if I wanted Dragon Age 3, I can't imagine playing it as DA2 has ruined Dragon Age for me, and some of the reasons how it did that, you just listed.LinksOcarina wrote...

Hmm
The best game they ever made was probably Baldurs Gate
the most important game they ever made was Dragon Age II, however.
Explain that second part?
Basically, Dragon Age II revamped a lot of things, but three things in particular make it an important game if you ask me.
The first, is the friendship/rivalry system. Basically, the fact that they made the system not based on how characters would like/dislike you as a flat number, but instead how they would act toward you, made the party members more believable as characters. Plus, this would fall into a more apropro version of role-playing: you can play Hawke however you want, and the characters around you react accordingly to Hawke and his/her responses.
Second, the interaction with the characters in a non-linear storyline. Note I didn't say gameplay, what I say a non-linear storyline, I mean a story that is different from its predecessor. Were not following the Warden anymore, and its likely we won't follow Hawke in game III. This allows the world of Thedas to be the main attraction, not unlike the world building we see in say Elder Scrolls or something like that. We get a new protagonist and their story, as the narrative structure goes on. Now you may be thinking Elder Scrolls does that already, but this here is the difference: there is a long-term investment over our control of the said world.
Basically, if people enjoy the series enough it will become Final fantasy, but it will be connected to each other in a stronger way; it is a storyline were shaping from choices, so each game is connected through big and small choices in some way. Of course they have a central plot and an outcome to that said plot, but we shape then outcome; does the Warden die or take the dark ritual as a way out, does Hawke side with the mages, or templars? The true test of this will be in Dragon Age III, and how choices from game 1 and 2 can come into play, if they do at all. If they do, and we see choices from game one pop up in game 3, and so on, then BioWare is onto something huge if they can keep the story straight and pull it off as a long narrative.
And I am hopeful they will. Basically, the way characters were handled through the friendship/rivalry system, and the way the story structure has been set up is damn innovative and unlike anything I have seen in a long time. they basically changed how "light/dark" side work and are taking a gamble on story structure that can pay off in the long run if people stick with it. At least, thats why I think its important.
man! you just described nearly everything that is wrong with that game.
that was one revamp that was never needed.
To you, maybe.
You did ask why, well not you, you just decided to make fun of me, but to be honest I can care less if you believe it or not. We shall see in time in the end.

No, it's not nostalgia. Not only are those two of Bioware's best games, they're two of the best games ever made.
On a semi-related note, I played through Planescape Torment for the first time last year and I was blown the **** away. I can't say that for most modern games even though they have production values up the wazoo.

Out of the Bioware games I've played, yes, yes it is.
Same, I've only played the ME trilogy and both DA games, but Mass Effect 3 is by far my favorite.

I'd say NWN 1 and Kotor is the best

Does A Dance With Rogues count? It's a fan made game created by one person, but it's on Neverwinter Nights using the Toolset.... So is that a Bioware game or?...
If that doesn't count then Dragon Age Origins.

Baldur's Gate 2. Everyone saying Origins is either under twenty or doesn't game on the PC.
Honestly Baldur's Gate 2 wasn't even as good as Baldur's Gate 1. Let alone NWN, Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Origins.

How was it worse than BG1. It did everything a sequel should do in that in made the game better in every way without changing any core mechanics (cough Dragon Age). It was an amazing game, don't get me wrong, but it was only better in the sense that it came first; same way Doom was better than Doom 2.
Additionally, all the things that people complain about in DA2 vs DA:O are a continuation of what DA:O did to the mechanics of the infinity engine games (more focus on action and less on story/exploring, "consolized gameplay," etc.). The gameplay mechanics of BG were crafted so well that they lasted through 5 critically acclaimed games (bg1/2, iwd1/2, and ps:t); the mechanics of DA, NWN, and ME couldn't even last through their own series.

Yep, they don't make games like that anymore - Planescape:Torment and Fallout 1 are 1a and 1b of the best CRPGs in my opinion

ME1
ME2
DAO - I've played all the above games at least a half dozen times or so. These are my absolute favorites
JE - Good, but didn't grab me like the others
SWTOR - It's an MMO, which right there causes it to lose points. It's better than most that I've played, but that's because of all the solo aspects they added to it. Some of the quests can get tedious after a while. I've lost interest in the planetary faction quests at this point, since they're all the same. "The Empire/Republic is doing ________ and we need to stop them."
ME3 - There were a number of really great elements to this, so I can't just say it's bad. It's certainly the most disappointing though. So much wasted potential.
DA2 - This one didn't engage me like the other games did. I didn't feel any connection to Hawke, or anything for any of the other characters (except maybe the blood mage elf). I still haven't finished it. I think I'm stopped around the start of Act 2 or 3 (after you defeat the Qunari leader).

Then I realized the only reason I played Kotor was because it said "Star Wars". Then I left the topic.

Joke post?
The original NWN was just an RPG maker toolset with a bare-bones complimentary rpg.

Both are great games, but I personally prefer the story, characters, and environment of Baldur's Gate 1. I liked the wide-open game world and hidden nature of many of the side-quests. I also liked the complexity of Sarevok's plan and the subplots involving the merchants guilds, flaming fist, and grand dukes. BGII is still great though, I don't have any major complaints about that game although I was sad to see one of my regular BG1 party-members get killed off and to see two of the others get completely omitted from future mention.
