I think my view on Jacob romance being carried over can be summed up by how the one LI in ME2 who actually says 'I love you', asks about your problems, and otherwise is given the virtues of 'stability' is the only romance in the game to abandon you for someone else.
Jack sleeping around? Not out of character, so long as it didn't form an emotional connection. Miranda? She's always used all of her assets to her advantage. Tali? Let's not go there. But Jacob?
It's just one more of those evidences of how poorly planned the sequel to ME2 was, in how they created a product but had no idea how they wanted to carry it over.
Excellent post Dean. Facob, that's my name for Pod-Jacob, annoys me. If wish I weren't a completionist or I'd skip the mission. He's literally fighting for his life and doesn't use his biotics once.
The ME2 cast on the whole got the shaft. Only Mordin and Legion got treated well in my view. Yes they weren't squadmates but at least they didn't seem like tacked on after thoughts. They way ME3 is written. Miranda, Jacob, Samara, Kasumi, and Zaeed all should have been on the squad.
Thane's health was a legitmate reason for him being on the sidelines, doesn't excuse his lack of content though.
Grunt is the commanding officer of Wrex's most elite battle unit. Visiting him in the Normandy med bay would have been a nice touch. A few missions with his team would have been even better.
Jack is leading her biotic students into military conflicts. Although I don't see why there couldn't be a few important missions that had Shepard teaming up with Jack, LoTSB style, to aid them.
Miranda is tracking down her father and his Cerberus ties. Which could have have been done from the ship. The Normandy was after Cerberus. The Shadow Broker is on the ship. I mean it would have been a no brainer.
Jacob literally has nothing to do after you rescue the scientists he was protecting from Cerberus. He wasn't working on the Crucible. The best way to keep them safe would have to carve out a space in the Armory and help Shepard and Miranda take down Cerberus.
Samara actually says she's going to join your fight after the Monastery mission. So is she waiting for you back on the Normandy? Nope. Is she on Thessia locked into Mortal Kombat with Tro Leng? Nope. I mean if she's going where she is needed most the Normandy and/or her assaulted homeworld is where she should be.
Zaeed is a mercenary for hire that wants revenge on Cerberus so bad he takes any job to screw with them. So what does he do? Does offer up his services to Shepard. Does he make that soniva**** TIM burn? Nope he just does his best "gangsta" lean on Citadel docks.
Kasumi is so worried about indoctrinated Reaper agents that she goes against Keiji's wishes to give evidence to the Spectre tracking her down for arrest. Surely someone that goes to such lengths to aid in the fight against the Reapers would rejoin Shepard to save to galaxy. Oh wait Shepard "roped" her into a suicide mission. It's not like she knew it was a suicide mission and joined in exchange for help acquiring a certain greybox
