Totally hated Jacob (him and Zaeed are the only two characters I ever intentionally get killed in ME2) and never played as femshep, but I can see why people who did pick him as the LI would be upset. I don't see complaining about Thane, though. We knew pretty within five minutes of meeting him that he was going to die and soon.

Also, Garrus is so awesome I'd say he pretty much outweighs every non-Tali male LI anyways.

I haven't romanced Jacob and, frankly, won't. Not unless I gibbed the game and have a male do so. I like Jacob - he is a man of principles and integrity, and he is someone who can relate to a paragon Cerberus unfriendly Shepard. Unfortunately, the personality they created in ME2 does not carry over into ME3, and that right there is why I won't romance him.

I am a loyal BioWare female gamer. I only play BioWare games, and have since the late '90's when Baldur's Gate came out. I love their style - they are creative and really understand the roleplay aspect of a video game.

However (betcha thought I'd say 'but'!)...BioWare, despite being one of the first companies to recognize that females do, indeed, game, have always made it a point that if time is lacking and something needs to be cut, they ALWAYS cut out female player content. Not just sometimes, but always. It started with Baldur's Gate II when they only gave one romance option to women (cutting out Hae'dalis and sticking us with 'uck' Anomen) while male gamers got 3 romances - all rather cool chicks. Neverwinter was the same with Aron (that romance was no where near as 'meaty' as with Aribeth) NWN Hordes where they cut out of lot of Valen content (he's a romance, but they cut a lot out of him)...and so on. Another aspect that shows BioWare's lack of comprehension as to what female gamers want is the fact that the VA for all of their female protagonists are not nearly as...good...as their male VA. Now, I LOVE Jennifer Hale. But, her F/Shepard just makes me cringe. And F/Hawke...'argh'.

BioWare needs to realize that female gamers are buying up a lot of their products because BioWare is one of the only companies out there that even give a smidgon of what female gamers want - a complex storyline with romance and friendship. However, it really shows how out of touch they are when time constraints simply equal 'cut the female content'.

I think we need to stop being so hard on Jacob and his antics in ME3

After all, Shepard is a hard woman to figure out...

In Dragon Age: Awakening, The Warden Commander happens on a dying Grey Warden who asks that his wedding ring be delivered to his wife. Once the Warden Commander delivers the ring, however, you discover that she is w/ another man and has been for some time. It's a very short sidequest that has nothing to do w/ the main story, but illustrates how war (or simply being a solider) can take its toll on a relationship. The Warden Commander can chastise the woman or simply giver her the ring and walk away. I think this is what they were trying to do w/ Jacob, though they failed miserably.

Thing is Miranda, Jack, and Kelly stay faithful to MaleShep and can be saved. Unlike Jacob and Thane.

The fans are more to blame for this than Bioware.

Jacob got the Mako treatment. Enough fans complained about him loudly enough after ME2, that he ended up on the cutting room floor for ME3.

Then the proper resply would be to give him a smaller role unless romanced. No derail him for anyone who actually did like his character.

I just think that sometimes the fanbase needs to step up and admit that it also is part of the problem.

If Jacob hadn't been trashed relentlessly and repeatedly on these boards between Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, Bioware would have ended up going a dfferent route with Jacob. Just like with the Mako getting axed, the fans are partially to blame.

If that's true, than what about Thane?  He certainly has his share of fans. 

(I mean Shepard can survive the vacuum of space - but Thane can't get a lung transplant?  Really? )


I was rather indifferent to Jacob in ME2 (I blame F!Sheps awlful harass-y dialogue "I'm *more* interested in talking for a bit") but ieven I was  over how he acted in ME3.

The sad part about Jacob is that the whole Brynn thing works for a Frienship!Jacob in ME3.

Friendship!Thane? Not at all...
