I'm playing through on hard for the first time as a mage, intending to become an arcane warrior.

I'm currently very close to level 7, but still in Lothering and haven't unlocked any specializations yet, so it seems as though I'm going to be somewhat disadvantaged by not specializing until level god-knows-what.

I know I need to go to the dalish elf forest in order to unlock Arcane Warrior, but everywhere seems to recommend doing the tower first. How long would it take to just leg it to the bottom of the ruins and unlock AW, so that I can then reload and continue playing properly? Is this a sensible way to go?

Cheers
Iain

it really doesn't make much diffrence. a specialization is only four talents so it's not like you need it fast to become a AW. Hard isn't that hard and you will be fine by waiting, just don't use it up on something else.

you can go directly to the forest if you want, I did that on my first playthrough and i thought the bosss was easier on lower level then it has been on the higher when you have visited both the circle tower and redcliff. (low magic -> high magic)

It depends on the specialization and how you acquire it (they're all different).

SPOILER
Once you finish Lothering you'll have access to many areas in the world map and can bounce around among them as you see fit. On a warrior, for example, if you want to get Berserking spec and don't want to wait to find Ohgren and create enough favor with him to learn Berserking from him, you can simply map to Denerim Market District and find Gorim's vendor stall and buy the Spec training manual for Berserking from him (11 gold), then turn right around and head for the Circle Tower.
END SPOILER
