 Hi Guys,

I liked the music of Mass Effect 3 - but I went back to Mass Effect 1 - and asked myself - what made the original game so great?

The music was probably the first thing that came to my mind - but the greatness of Mass Effect 1 - can't be attributed to only one thing.

I think it was mainly how everything came together - and everything felt like it fit together - including the music.

So moving on to the topic at hand - was the Mass Effect 3 soundtrack forgettable?

I can hum every song from the ME1 soundtrack off of my head, I only have to mention "Ilos", "Vigil" or "Feros" - and you guys know exactly what songs I'm talking about.

I wouldn't be able to do the same with the ME2 or ME3 soundtrack.

Again - I always liked the music from ME - but the later installments seemed forgettable to me.

Thoughts?

I think ME3 definitely has some great tracks in "A Future for the Krogan" or "I Was Lost Without You". But I don't feel like any of them come close to the epic tracks of ME1 and ME2, like "Vigil" or "Suicide Mission".

i thought that the ME1 had the best soundtrack followed by ME3. i love elevtronic dance music and the synth-tunes in those games were awesome. Awesome tracks were mars, vigil, galaxy map, main theme, rannoch, the fleets arrive, liaras world etc. the ME2 soundtrack on the other hand was forgetable as a whole with few tracks standing out and too little synth and too much standard action music.

Mass Effect 3 has tracks that perfectly fit the durrenct situation. So if you hear them without this context it can feel odd und forgettable. Generally I think the instrumental style in ME3 is not as memorable as the characteristic beats of ME1. I like both and love the fact that BioWare adapted their soundtrack so that it fits the game I am playing and not opted to repeat ME1s soundtrack over and over again.

ME3 soundtrack was worst from series, but above avarage of other games. Still got on my mind whole ME1 OST and epic ME2 ending with songs ( ) - it is just unforgetable (not mentioning amazing Two Steps From Hell Trailers). With ME3, only song I remember ... well maybe Leaving Earth at start of game ( ) but it was like I heard it somewhere before...

So basically, higher number = weaker OST

ME3's just too slow for me. However I like "Leaving Earth", "Betrayal", but ME2's "Jump Drive" and "Tali" just better I think.

I like ME3 soundtrack, except for "Leaving Earth". But it is not as good as ME1.

The soundtrack was good, but nowhere near the quality of ME1's soundtrack, which for me is one of the best ever made in videogames. However, ME3 had some great tracks like Future of the Krogan and Rannoch Reaper. In my opinion, the biggest thing ME3 soundtrack is missing is Jack Wall.

ME3 has some great tracks, but not as many as the others.

I personally love it. Can it beat ME1 tracks? No, probably not. But considering the rest of the game, the soundtrack definitely stands out as a focal point.

Not at all. I'm not a big fan of the ME1 soundtrack (Vigil excluded - that still is an awesome track). ME2 was a much better soundtrack - Suicide Mission, and the music from Overlord and Kasumi DLC was stand out for me. But as a whole I think ME3 has the best soundtrack of all three. It's a much more epic and emotional soundtrack in my opinion. Leaving Earth, A Future for the Krogan, Aralakh Company, Betrayal, I'm Proud of You, An End Once and For All, are some of my favourites. All fantastic. Loved all the music from EC too.

ME3 has some great tracks, such as "An end once and for all," "I was lost without you," and the Purgatory theme, but ME2 generally has a larger quantity of memorable songs such as "The Normandy Reborn," "Overlord Combat Theme," "David." "Lair of the Shadow Broker" theme, "Reflections" "The Suicide Mission," and a few others.

I think its been slightly more than a year since I last played and I can't even remember a single music from ME1 lol.
But the music that plays in ME3 when the Reapers attack Earth I thought was pretty memorable.

Some good tracks, like the ones already listed. Though nothing has come close to Suicide Mission for me.

Much more versatile than ME2's soundtrack while representing a healthy blend between ME1 heavy synth oriented sound and ME2 grand scale orchestral music , thus making it my favorite OST in the series . "The Fleets Arrive","A future for the krogan" stood out for me .

Imo ME1 still has the overall best soundtrack though each part of the series had some good musical moments.

The Captain's Cabin music was a real disappointment in ME3. Yeeech!

Loved it, wished it had Suicide Mission in there but I loved it all the same.

ME2 also had a great soundtrack and although a lot of them appeared in ME3 I still wish the rest of them did.

Overall great, probably the best of the trilogy.

I like the organic parts of the ME 3 soundtrack the most... An end once and for all (EC edition) is probably my favorite.

ME 1 soundtrack layed the basic theme...but was very atmospheric and a bit melodramatic.

ME 2 soundtrack was more orchestral... but I found the tracks not as engaging and emotional as ME 1 soundtrack.

ME 3 soundtrack had the best of both worlds for me...plus it is the most emotional one.

ME3 has a host of massive issues, but the soundtrack is not one of them. I rather enjoy it, and am glad that I have it.

The ME3 soundtrack is ok. There are good pieces, but in general, if you consider that it is the climax of the conflict with the Reapers it lacks some epic orchestral songs.

I would like to have more songs like for example this:

It's true that the Mass Effect 1 score has very distinct themes that are easy to remember, including the ones that they never released on soundtrack, but the themes were also more simple.

However. bear in mind that a number of the themes heard in certain portions of the game are repeated elsewhere, either in their entirety or motifs taken from them. Listen to "The Presidium" and "Criminal Elements" back-to-back; in the latter, it's not extremely obvious, but you can hear that the melody in the background is taken from "The Presidium." The same theme is used in other parts of the game, as well; it may have a different rhythm and/or use different synthesized sounds, but the melody remains the same, for the most part.

"Virmire Ride" and "Saren" are another two good examples of repeated melodies. I don't begrudge the composers for making such choices; in fact I applaud them for being able to use the same motifs in so many places without making it obvious.

In contrast, the score for Mass Effect 2 was much more varied and less reliant on synthetic sounds. Though there were fewer repeated melodies, and overall much different than the Mass Effect 1 score, it's hard not to appreciate that a number of tracks utilized motifs from the Mass Effect 1 score. Off the top of my head, "The Normandy Reborn" utilized motifs from both "Mass Effect Theme" and "The Normandy."

To this day, "The Normandy Reborn" still gives me goosebumps. It's a damned shame that they didn't bring Jimmy Hinson back to help score new music for Mass Effect 3, but I can appreciate that they used quite a bit of his ME2 music in the game: "The Normandy Reborn," "Samara," "Mother vs. Daughter," "Tali," and "Infiltration," but there might be a few others.

In closing, I'm not trying to give you a music lesson (I would be wrong person, anyway...lol); I'm simply pointing out that one of the reasons these themes are so easy to remember is the repetition of some of the themes and melodies.

I liked it, it combined the science-fictiony music from ME1 with more epic music from ME2
