 First note- I don't actually believe all girls are obsessed with makeup. The thread title is just to mimic the "Why are guys so obsessed with beards?" thread by Kathleen321.

Actual thread idea inspired by Fuinris.

Now then, on to the actual subject at hand-

What IS it with girls and makeup? These days I'm noticing more and more how some girls/women pile on make up thinking the more they use the more beautiful they are.

Its a little ridiculous from my point of view. Personally, its a bit of a turn off.

I find it VERY attractive when a girl decides, "You know what, I look good just the way I am and I don't need to buy a bunch of crap to spread all over myself."

To be fair though, sometimes makeup when used correctly can emphasize a lady's facial features and bring to attention something that isn't normally capturing anyone's attention.

I think most girls just go overkill with it though. I like a girl who doesn't feel the need for lipstick, nail polish, mascara, fake bake(if you want to consider a fake tan a form of makeup)etc etc that makes them look completely different.

Minimalist stuff like a little eyeliner doesn't nag me. But when I see what could very well be a BEAUTIFUL girl absolutely destroying her natural beauty with a bunch of artificial products, it just seems...kinda sad, really.

Makes me wonder. Where do y'all stand? Ladies, this is YOUR subject, do feel free to educate and elaborate. Share your opinion. Share some stories. Support my opinion? Feel different?

The same reason anyone tends to their appearance, a combination of insecurity and need/desire for a mate/sexual partner. Apes do it, birds do it, cats do it, etc. It's not something to ponder really, there's more than enough variety in that area that it shouldn't be an issue.

As do I. What with me liking the absolute LACK of makeup over any at all(again, barring minimalist stuff like eyeliner) I'm curious to see how ladies who actually put this stuff on feel.

As for myself, I usually never wear the stuff, unless I'm going out, and even then I use the bare minimum.

I'm 28 and have never worn makeup in my life, aside from clear lip gloss. I think it's mostly due to the fact that I was never really taught how - usually you hear stories of little girls getting into mommy's makeup kit, and that starts the fascination. I never did, as my mother never wore makeup either.

I just don't "get it."

My girlfriend is obsessed with mascara, because she's a natural blonde and has blonde eyelashes. So, if she doesn't have mascara on, it looks like she has no eyelashes at all and it makes her feel weird. That's all she really enhances these days.

Insecurities lol. Facebook is full of teens doing stupid poses, spray tan and pouting. There is even a 'most beautiful teenager' page for hundreds of insecure suckers posing for possible Internet predators. I remember an article about Kim Kardashian being a role model for teens or a decline in society I don't know but so much make up is horrendous.
