I attempted to use Graal on my Max Health and Damage Reduction Kroguard after hearing man positive comments about the weapon, but I failed to see its greatness. I am very unskilled with it so it may just be that I suck. It seems to be walled by Guardian shields.

Does the penetration mod affect this gun?

How can it be used effectively on Gold?

Host.
It doesn't allow penetration but it does more damage against armor I believe.
Shoot things.

You can mail slot with the graal but it takes good aim.

The main benefit of the Graal is that it staggers enemies. So Stagger ---> Melee against tough enemies like Phantoms and Geth Hunters is very effective with Krogans.

Also, a fully charged Graal shot to the head is deadly to most enemies even on Gold.

The most important factor in successfully using this weapon is to Host. If you aren't hosting, lag can render this weapon useless.

I can't use this gun... I should go back and try the Graal and the Falcon again... As host this time.

I have found the Graal to be very useful with hip fire, especially when rapid firing.

Forego the penetration mod and take the extra ammo, as the armor penetration mod does not effect the Graal.

The gun is also great for staggering once you get used to it and can consistently hit enemies.

- Ignores armour damage reduction, so you can save mods for other things, plus you don't need AP amps.
- Charged shot, then two quick shots = very good damage output.
- Accurate with no smart choke (can snipe from Dagger balconies to spawns).
- (as mentioned) stagger.

- Much improved off-host use.  I dont seem to fire many blanks, if any since 1.03.

I really like the Graal, and is one of my go-to gold worthy guns.  Typically i put on mag and barrel.

The Graal, as well as the Falcon, are useless unless hosting. When you are, they become weapons of mass destruction.

Never, ever right-click-aim with the Graal. Only fire it from the hip. For some reason, on the PC, when you aim it (from where your right shoulder is) the shots will fly from somewhere off your left hip, causing you to miss, especially moving targets. I have no clue why this is so, and would love to hear from someone else on the subject. I might even be willing to do some tests if anyone is interested.

Unlike what some claim, the Graal is not useless if you're not hosting.
You usually just need a game without apparent lag.

My tips to use this weapon:

- Go for headshots. If you don't, it's a waste and you would do far better with the Geth shotgun (which is the exact same weight btw).

- Always have a staggering ability (your best bet being stasis)

- Use Barrel and Smart Choke, nothing else

- Don't bother too much with weapon damage bonuses, the Graal can one-shoot a Phantom on Gold without help (provided the shot is charged).

- Learn to remain out of cover unless you're playing a very durable character. It will allow you to always have a charged shot ready to go.

A great character to use along with this weapon is the Asari vanguard.

I just wanted to point out I agree with each statement made except for the choke. It's a fine enough (for a shotgun) HS weapon and works greatly against armor-only enemies like brutes, ravagers. Image IPB

OK, so no other PC user has problems with aiming Graal instead of hip-firing?

Agree on the hosting part, it also works great with the batarian soldier with max batarian blade damage. Graal headshot -> batarian blades -> heavy melee

I find the Graal more dependent on host than any other weapon, even the Falcon. Actually I've had success with the Falcon without hosting, and not hosting doesn't seem to bother my GPS. But even while hosting, I can never get the hang of timing with the Graal. My shots either are too late or too far ahead of the enemy. It's frustrating.

If you want tighter pattern with Graal then just aim, far more effective on that shotgun than smart choke.

Hip fire, and don't fully charge each shot. Those were the two things that took the gun from awful to usable for me. (I'm not saying NEVER fully charge each shot, but a fully charged shot doesn't do that much more damaged than a partially charged shot.)

In case you did not know: charge the weapon, biotic charge someone while holding down the fire button, then release the button. Two charged shots in a row.

With the smart choke AND aiming though its grouping is as tight as if you were using Marksman. It's kind of ridiculous actually.

as has been said, aim is important, charging is important...charging doubly so because if you release even while being staggered, you'll fire - can't tell you how many hunters I've killed using that, and how happy I am when I do it...I've also killed my killer a lot bcause if you're charging a shot and go down, you auto fire it

It's fine enough yes, but the Choke is really worth it since it turns your shotgun into a scopeless sniper.

If you treat it right, aim it right, it'll give you some nice head explosions in return.

Graal has very similar properties to the GPS (innate armor piercing, no ability to penetrate cover even w/ mods- so guardians are annoying- latency dependent, reliable staggers, can charge shot+quick shot, similar weight, etc).

The main difference between the 2 guns is GPS has homing if the reticule is red on the target when you fire, whereas Graal fires more rapidly, doesn't home, but *can* headshot.

Hip fire it- alot. Get used to aiming a bit up on the reticule while strafing to get the best outta it- like the GPS, but its better to aim for the head than the body region w/ the Graal.

Its a great gun. A bit under-used because in general shotties are the best weapon class (imo) and have too many good contenders atm, and in general its harder to use than the GPS (but has more potential if you can headshot well).

Aim for the head and don't use shredder or AP mods.

I recommend incendiary ammo (charging the gun boosts ammo bonus too).
