And give Kirkwall the proverbial F U?

Whenever I was asked 'Why not return?' I just wanted to say 'Why indeed, when's the next boat?' - Not that there wasn't anything strictly wrong with Kirkwall besides it's horrible history, horrible architecture, horrible people and horrible political structure... It's just Ferelden was much prettier and interesting :)

Besides I believe everything would've worked out better for both Kirkwall and the Hawke family if we buggered off back to Ferelden after year 1

Me, I want to leave as soon it became clear that I just everyone's errand boy.
In truth it was clear around act 2, but the Qunari were somewhat interesting, but as soon as act 3 started it was obvious that me being there was pointless.

I wanted to go somewhere else. Maybe Antiva.

Kirkwall was a disaster.

I didn't mind leaving Fereldan. I was looking forward to exploring more of Thedas.

However, if they wanted to station the game in another country, I wish they'd gone all out and made the protagonist a resident of the Free Marches and/or allowed us to see more of than just one city and the surrounding area. The very half-hearted "You grew up in Fereldan and adhere to Fereldan culture, but you now live in the Free Marches, which we tell you is completely different even though it looks and feels the same" just felt so lack-lustre.

The first game involved a lot of exploring different cultures and peoples of an entire nation we previously knew nothing about. (Fereldan.) I would have liked for the second game to have the same charm, and I hope more games have that in the future. (Explore Orlais, Antiva, Rivain, Kal-Sharok, etc.)

Na, never saw why people were ridiculously attached to it and always took the "THANK GOD I'M OUT OF THERE" options.

I didn't necessarily wish for a return to Ferelden, but Kirkwall definitely had a depressing feel to it. The crazy blood mages, Meredith, and the recycled enviroments ruin things in Kirkwall.

Too bad Anders didn't blow up the whole city along with the Chantry.

I wouldn't mind going back to Ferelden (I think it would be neat), but I don't necessarily want a whole game there. And they've hinted that we'll be able to go to multiple countries in the next game instead of just multiple regions of one. So instead of going from Orzammar to Denerim, we could be going from Denerim to Val Royeaux to Kirkwall and so forth. This is my interpretation of there hints, anyway, but they've definitely hinted at exploring a much larger chunk of the map.

This is exactly what i would love.

I completely agree with Faerunner above. I hope the next release lets us explore more areas like Origins did but to more new areas, plus the added enhancement abilities Awakenings provided. In a perfect world, I would also meet up with the Hero of Ferelden and together we can terrorize the world, er, I mean save it from Darkspawn or the next threat to societies freedom's. Oh and have real "relationships" again... :P Regardless, I am impatiently waiting for the next release that (hopefully) redeems the game series.

I want to explore new places with each DA game. I want to see Tevinter, and Nevarra, and Par Vollen.

Having said that I am fine with a return to Ferelden in a future title, I'd just rather see some new places first.

Nostalgia goggles.

I don't think that Ferelden but I do think it had a better game/map design than Kirkwall. Still, who wants to see Ferelden with DA2's engine? **** that.

I was greatly annoyed that they never explained why the Hawkes would stay in Kirwall, aka templar central. Why wouldn't mage Hawke pack up and leave Kirkwall after getting their share of the money from the Deep Roads expedition?

It's possible to play an apostate blood mage Hawke who by Act 3 has no close friends or rivals in Kirwall, and whose only living relative is Gamlen. Why would that Hawke stay in Kirkwall?

At first, because that's what Mom wanted and, after 7 years, Hawke was one of the big names of the town, a noble and rich. Why would you leave all that behind for become "nothing" again?

As for your blood mage thing, that can be explained by BioWare designers not giving a crap about the story fitting or not the gameplay choice you made.

Go back to Ferelden? No. Wouldn't want to, I've already seen it.

The whole of Thedas is more interesting to me than any single part of it. The fact that Kirkwall was so restrictive meant that it offered me no opportunity to explore the Free Marches, which really bothered me. In fact it was one of the first things that I really hated about Dragon Age II.

There are so many more interesting parts of Thedas to explore. I, personally, wouldn't want to go back to Ferelden.

Eh, I suppose I would've taken another tour of Ferelden over a decade in that godforsaken open-air prison known as Kirkwall, but my preference still lies with a game set across another whole country, or multiple ones.

The thing about Ferelden is that it doesn't offer much more opportunity for adventure. Want to go to Orzammar? Did that. Want to visit the Circle of Magi tower? Did that. Want to go to the Dragonbone Wastes? Did that. The Warden explored pretty well all the ancient ruins that Ferelden has to offer, unless there's a hidden trove of them in the south.

While Kirkwall proved to be a bit stifling, it was still something new.

Kirkwall had more exciting things happening in it, really. Ferelden was pretty much tapped out in DAO and DAA.

I want to go somewhere else - like The Dales, Anitva, Orlais, and Tevinter. Pretty much anywhere besides Kirkwall and Ferelden.

Or better yet, I want to travel all over the Fade itself. I know it's supposed to be hard to navigate in the Fade, but I think it would be pretty interesting to see the realm of demons.

Yes, my Hawke wanted to go back. Desperately. I felt no obligation to stay in Kirkwall (god knows how crappy I felt at the end of the game). When Alistair brought it up, I was like "Hell yeah. Let's go."

As a player, while I will always love Ferelden, I don't want to go back there in future games. 2 main reasons are:

1) I'm afraid of what they would do art-wise to the characters and places I've already been.
2) I want to explore some place new and meet new people.

If we go back to Ferelden, it's more likely that people will start demanding that the devs bring back our wardens. It's time to let go. I still go back and play DAO when I start missing my companions. My warden is off doing other things. Would I mind playing as a warden again? Not at all, but not in Ferelden.

I've always wanted to see Antiva or go to qunari lands.

edit: formatting.

For me, I really, really hope we don't see Ferelden again. Unless it is only for a quest, like say, near the Ferelden border, at the Frostback Mountains. Apparently we'll be able to go to Orlais in DA3.
