i have no clue what the baulder gate games are and why they are so often compared to dragon age.
Is baulder gate 1 or baulder gate 2 the game everybody likes? I've seen like about 50 people say dragon age will be like baulders gate. What exactly are these two games?
Why do people keep comparing dragon age to the baulder gate series?

Dragon Age is what bioware have been referring to as their "Spiritual Successor" to the baldurs gate series which was an old game based on the D&D lisence that many consider biowares best game ever.

Well the game's been marketed as the spiritual successor to the Baldur's Gate games by the Bioware folks, hence some of the comparison.
Baldur's Gate are the benchmark many people hold all RPG's and specifically Bioware RPG's up to and compare them with - usually unfavourably, however this game's been touted as a return to Bioware's roots of gameplay and feel. Certainly it looks like it plays like Baldur's Gate games, and has a similar feel to it (albeit a totally different ruleset).
If you're not bothered by the ancient graphics (the BG games are 10 years or so old) then they can be picked up in one bundle from Amazon, and they're well worth playing through.

Probably because it's gonna be just as great. It's been a while since we last had any real "classic" rpg the likes of Baldurs Gate.
If they manage to do it, i won't be seen outside next year

The BG games, along with Planescape: Torment, define "classic" when it comes to RPGs. I still play all of them from time to time, even after all these years. PT's my favorite, though. <3

Baldur's Gate is a cRPG, using the Dungeons and Dragons/Forgotten Realms license. DA:O is the 'spiritual successor' to BG, due to the focus on party members and party banter, the tactical combat (and the difficulty of said combat), and I believe the writing in general.
DA:O is BioWare going back to its 'roots' with a more classic RPG, steering away from their more recent action-type RPGs like Mass Effect and Jade Empire.

It's also because Baldur's Gate pretty much single-handedly revived the RPG genre in the West. You should see if you can get the series if you have the chance, champofflame. Good gaming right there.Clammo wrote...

Look up Baldur's Gate, look at some screenshots, DL the game, Have a ball.
Don't be confused... It is NOT that crap on consoles (Dark Alliance).
