While I thought Jacob in ME2 was sort of boring (maybe because he was originally a protagonist from another game? He was cooler in ME3, though) I actually ended up liking James a lot more. He was a pretty funny, down-to-earth character and made a nice foil for the rest of the crew.

I went into ME3 prepared to dislike Vega and ended up changing my opinion of him as the game went on. It made sense to have a new face on the crew although I can completely understand not being happy at a new character appearing when some well-loved ones aren't present.

Vega was the best human squad mate. A total bro.
Not a whiner like Kaiden, a **** like Ashley, a cold **** like Miranda (though she does soften up a **** and turns into a daddy issue girl) and finally the crazy one, Jack (though Jack had her "in your face" attitude that made her quite charming).

Edit: Forgot to mention Jacob, though that should tell you something. He was a very forgettable character.

Nah, Vega is cool. It is actually quite refreshing to get a usual grunt who doesn't have daddy issues and isn't shown as some sort of a super-mega-badass by developers (I think we didn't get such squaddies since ME1, because everyone in ME2 is so uber-badass that it gets boring)

To be fair to ME 2, one of our goal was to scour the galaxy to recruit bad asses to do the suicide run.

To be fair. We still had wrex, liara,Tali and Garrus at the end of ME1. Even after defeating Saren. They only went off after Shepard died. Its like Bioware went out of their way to split up the squad after each game.

Yes, but Vega was still able to participate in difficult missions during ME3 just fine without being a mega-badass.

I think Vega is a nice character. I actually liked him and Javik a lot better than Tali, Liara and the VS. Down-To-Earth and funny, no frills. I like it.

What disliking James Vega says about me is that I would rather have literally any other squadmate from ME2, yes including Jacob, on my ME3 squad instead of this boring, bland, generic, steroidfreak space marine.

True. TIM wasn't joking, he recruited the best of the Galaxy for that Suicide Mission, it's perfectly logical that each and every one of the 12 ME2 Squadmates looks like a total bad-ass.

I never minded his appearance. I did, however, mind his excessive familiarity and, more to the point, way too much flirting.

I personally like Vega, but would have instantly taken someone else in his place. This is the Normandy, it's a pretty exclusive club, and Shepard shouldn't just let anyone in. Especially when everyone from the Suicide Mission is more qualified than Vega.

Lol, him being an elite soldier certainly makes him unqualified to do the high risk mission Shepard does.

/sarcasm.

I liked Vega. I liked dancing with him on the Normandy. I used him as a squadmate because he's a tank. I liked the way he looked up to Shepard yet realized she was human with faults and weaknesses just like everyone. I liked the fleeting accent (comes and goes). I sometimes have an accent too. It slips out occasionally.

Clearly Vega is younger than Shepard and her circle of friends, and he has a little crush on her. I'm ok that he's not a LI... most of my Sheps romance someone else anyway.

Vega is more suitable for the task at hand than Thane. Why would you need an assassin in an open battlefield anyway? Vega is more of a team player than Jack, also he has a more stable mind (talking about ME2 Jack here). So I would take James above those 2.

James Vega was only included in Mass Effect 3 so that new players of the series could get exposition about the setting. One of devs confirmed this.

Eh. Jack's much improved, and Thane's more than an assassin; his biotics are formidable and he's one of relatively few skilled snipers around. James just doesn't really have any reason for existing except as a way for new players to figure things out, and that's just not enough for experienced ones.

Regarding his appearance, his just looks...off. Like something that was transplanted into the game. ME humans usually have better defined necks than his, and tend to go for more concealed muscles. Shepard was rebuild by Cerberus to be a peak human condition, I shouldn't be seeing anyone looking stronger than him.

He's not unqualified, but he is significantly less qualified than Samara, Jack, Grunt, Zaeed, or Miranda.

And yet again he's more qualified than Liara and Tali and I'd say he's more qualified than Jack too. Jack might be the awesome crazy ****, but she's a very loose cannon.

What qualifications does Jack or Grunt have?

Or are you just saying "they're strong"?

Not every day you meet a soldier who destroyed a collector ship...
Vega did...

If that's not worth a spot on the Normandy, I don't know what is...

Jack is the most powerful human biotic in the Galaxy. To hell with qualifications.

That being said, Vega is perfectly qualified to stand side by side with Shepard since he will eventually be a N7 Soldier, but offcourse he can't compare with the overload of power that were the ME2 Crew.

The ME3 Crew is not a bunch of the "best in the Galaxy" recruited using illegal means, the ME3 Crew is a military team (Shepard, Vega, VS) with some friends helping out (Garrus, Liara, Tali) and a Prothean member discovered by serendipity.

While I would prefer the ME2 Crew every day of the week, it's pretty safe to assume that there are logical reason for the ME3 team to be weaker.
