Vega sucks at the tech stuff, but he's still a damn good soldier who does what needs to be done when needed.

I'd have thought the 'best of the best' would have more stringent entry requirements than being good at hitting things. I agree completely that he's a great soldier, but he shouldn't be an officer, let alone an N7.

Kai Leng manged to completely wipe out all security footage of himself during the coup. He kicked Shepard's ass on Thessia and got what he came there for. He may have seemed like a **** compared to what we saw in the books (Seriosuly, he was a BADASS in those), but he still did some pretty crazy stuff.

Correction: A gunship kicked Shepards ass. Kai Leng just happened to be there at the time.

When fans were rightfully outraged at lore innacuracies in something not written by Mac n' Casey they apologise and correct the issue.

When fans were rightfully outraged by the games ending it's all 'but our artistic vision!'

That's because there's a difference between the two things.

Decetion had errors. Stuff that was straight up wrong.
ME3 had an ending, that some people didn't like. That doesn't make it wrong.

Most anti-ending people are not going to face the facts, no matter what anyone says, so I'll just end it here.

Lore inconsistoncies, retcons and errors don't count as errors?
There was plenty strait up wrong with the ending.

Some very good points raised. And these would have made lots of sense if exploited more in the story and character development through ME3, but they were only touched very lightly on, hence why people cant associate with him as a character as well as the others. i guess that's why they are making an anime about him, what would have been better is a DLC maybe. Fighting off remaining collectors at a colony somewhere, and then going more into detail about Vega as a character with him (he would be the main accompanying character with you since he has had lots of experience with the collectors?)

All this as opposed to Vega, who after nearly killing you on Mars spends the whole game doing chin-ups and then goes "y'know what, I'ma sign up for N7 lol". Sure whatever dude.

It's funny how in one game, N7 went from elite of the elite to "We'll take anyone. No really." with Vega and Kai Leng.

Kai Leng never even made it to N7. I forgot where I'd seen that information though, maybe Retribution.

There's a galactic war going on. Vega was a good soldier.

Vega can't even operate a terminal without kicking it.
Call me crazy but I just assumed the N7 special forces had more to them than hitting things.

Kai Leng was an excellent soldier, before he went crazy.

Even a crazy person should be able to display some level of this supposed ability.
Kai Leng does not.

If by kicked his ass, you mean called in a gunship that blew out the buildings supports and ran away, sure.

It's not like I was beating him or anything before that either.

Is it just me or does this seem to be a gross over analysis of a simple opinion? I quite liked the lugg personally but I can understand why people hated him.

Ugh Vega.

Traynor is the right person to be the avatar of new players. The reason is she is new to military service, too!

Vega is just there like you're supposed to know him from the beginning. Traynor has a proper introduction. She even shows you (because you're new to ME3) the different sections of the ship.

Traynor has a proper role, too. A job to do. She participates, intercepts communications, offers insights, and has her moment to shine when she traces Kai Leng. Throughout the game she becomes accostumed to life onboard: like you, dear player. She says after a couple of missions that it's one thing to hear about Shepard, something else to see her in action; although this is mainly an "oooh you're romanceable!" line, it also works as the thoughts of new players who finally get to play as Shepard.

All this as opposed to Vega, who after nearly killing you on Mars spends the whole game doing chin-ups and then goes "y'know what, I'ma sign up for N7 lol". Sure whatever dude.

I think you got a point: Traynor as the avatar for new players fits surprisingly well. Without dragging this thread in a dangerous field, I'd like to say that maybe the fact that Traynor was already designed as an exploitation character made BioWare think about someone else to be the avatar of newcomers.

That being said, I absolutely love Traynor even if I play mostly with MaleSheps so I can't romance her. She's a very interesting and fresh character, I'll give her an armor and let her come with me as a squadmate if I could.

Vega's point, while may fail to appease new players, is to show a very down-to-earth member of the Normandy. I like his simple way. Maybe because I always liked the stereotype of slightly dumb hulks with a heart of gold.

EDIT: PS: your avatar is friggin awesome.

I'm assuming N7 requires more than just being a competent soldier.
Has Vega displayed anything other than his ability to shoot things and hit stuff till it falls over?

No strategic thinking, no technical expertise, no leadership ability. What qualifies him for N7?

You mean he had a gunship do his work for him while he activated plot armour?

Even a soldier Shepard knew how to use terminals. Even if it was just slapping omni-gel on them.
Also, Shep's a leader. Vega seems to be mostly known for chinups, getting into fights, hitting things he doesn't understand and getting everyone under his command killed.

Yeah, Shepard has shown that his leadership capabilities have been extraordinary throughout the games...

Shepard solves problems with his guns, asking stupid questions, and everyone seem to "uuh" and "aah" to him for it. What's the reason that everyone follows him? B/c he has that 'fire in him that no one else has'? Pff.

Shepard is a soldier. Maybe the best, but he nothing more than that. He doesn't show any form of intellect, strategy, and his leadership capabilites are pitiful at best.

If he had a loyalty mission or was included in previous games he wouldn't be so hated on. James is a nice guy you just have to talk to him a little, I really loved the conversation he has with Javik in the kitchen area, made my day.

Yeah, everybody is so puny and stupid compared to a genius stud millionaire like me. All forms of entertainment disgust me.

The problem with Vega is that he is completely unnecessary, just like Traynor and Allers. And he is so very much a Gears of War ripoff that if both GoW and Mass Effect were electronic gizmos, Bioware would get the crap sued out of it.

You shall never be taken seriously anymore.
I didn't know that Gears of War invented muscular people with tattoos. Probably because they didn't. Next you're going to say that it rips off Halo because it has guns, or something?
