Not enough players realized that a FULL extraction was needed for the community goal. Also, the endless waves and games of Banshees really take a toll. All it takes is one magnet hand to ruin the whole game.
Or one stupidly over-zealous Cerb vangard to charge two banshees and get sync killed 10 seconds into the extraction wave... or 6.. or whatever.
Seriously, most of my partial Reaper extractions were due to someone being stupid about Banshees on the extraction wave (and the others were also banshee magnet hands, but they weren't playing like crash test dummies.)

Golds and silver matches sure had more banshees than usual I noticed....might have been deliberate.

honestly i think either way we failed even if it was partial or full
ppl just dont have experience fighting reapers and ppl LOve playing chicken with banshee all the time, ive seen pretty durp things in this operation that doesnt fly with reapers...Krogans charging brutes, biotics ramming banshees, ppl trying to revive when a banshee is screaming at your face ready to chew it off. Not using missiles or consumables

The rest of the weekend was mixed success, but I had two more gold full extractions, maybe 8 silver, and lots of bronze. That most people cannot understand plain language is what I am more disappointed in. Whether it was explicit or not, many of us understood immediately that the community goal was survival oriented.

Who changed what rules?
The site clearly states:
Squad Goal: Extract at least one squad member against Reapers on Gold difficulty
Allied Goal: Extract 400,000 squads against Reapers on ANY difficulty
Special Circumstance: None
A squad is four people. Extract 400,000 squads, they didn't say extract 1/2 a squad, 3/4 of a squad or 3.5 members, they said extract 400,000 squads, why are we still debating this?
Second, where did this information come from that we've failed? Why has it been taken down? Where are the sources? I call troll on this, when do they normally announce win/failures? I thought it was Tuesday. What a bummer, I played for over 24hrs on all difficulties against Reapers.... my squad must've extracted 60 or more times.

In ME3 MP terms, a squad equals the number of active characters in the game.
If you are soloing, squad = 1. Just 3 players, then squad = 3 etc.
The spirit of Operation Broadside is basically nobody gets left behind.
The mathamatical problem with Operation Broadside is that squads of 4 acutally contribute less to the goal - each player can say they contributed one full extraction, but on the scoreboard, it only counts as one extraction.

Hmm I'm curious...is bioware combining all PC, PS3, Xbox 360 communities for the squad goals? or are the squad goals separate from each platform? Not sure how that works.
The Squad goals are done by profile and are individual rewards.
The Community Goal is all three systems combined into one big giant number.

UPDATE:
Hey all, just got a few replies from Mr. Hollan about this whole situation. Apparently, the announcement was made too early and they are "discussing how to proceed cautiously". I'm not sure what this means, but it could mean we possibly won. Or they just planned to tell us we failed when the DLC drops.

"Soldiers of the Milky Way – There is an old human expression: “You reap what you sow.” The word “reap” has been co-opted by our enemy, but this does not make the expression any less true. We have spent much time in recent weeks planting seeds. We recruited, we trained, we defended, all in the hopes that, sometime soon, we would have enough breathing room to mobilize against the enemy on a grand scale. Over the past few days, we did just that. Operation BROADSIDE attacked Reapers all over the galaxy, and we made them take notice. They expected to fight asari on Thessia, turians on Palaven, batarians on Khar’shan, but what they got was turian bombardments covering vorcha troops using human tactics in asari streets. It was perhaps due to this complexity that BROADSIDE did not go as planned. We sought a way to defeat a numerically superior ground force with little loss of life, but there was no sure strategy to adopt. When we innovate, our enemy adapts. Yes, we’ve seen losses, but a war worth fighting does not come without a cost. Take inspiration in that. I know it is discouraging to fight for alien real estate when we have not yet taken the battle to your own homeworld. Operational secrecy prevents me from saying exactly when we will deploy and in what strength. All I can say to those who are waiting is one word: Soon.

Not surprised, their servers were screwing up or something because the Magnet Hands were too out of control this weekend. I've played with my freinds all today and none of us has been Magnet Dragged into a Banshee at all today. Only got executed by a Banshee once and that's because she warped right ontop of me out of no where (probably through a damn wall) after I picked up a teamate. Annoying, hell yes, but at least I wasn't dragged 20 feet towards her out of the blue.

I believe the continued lack of a splash screen for PS3 contributed to the fail. I joined many random lobbies over the weekend where the enemy was set to uknown or even to geth or cerberus. BW, please work with Sony to get this fixed.
