UPDATE:
Hey all, just got a few replies from Mr. Hollan about this whole situation. Apparently, the announcement was made too early and they are "discussing how to proceed cautiously". I'm not sure what this means, but it could mean we possibly won. Or they just planned to tell us we failed when the DLC drops.

"Soldiers of the Milky Way – There is an old human expression: “You reap what you sow.” The word “reap” has been co-opted by our enemy, but this does not make the expression any less true. We have spent much time in recent weeks planting seeds. We recruited, we trained, we defended, all in the hopes that, sometime soon, we would have enough breathing room to mobilize against the enemy on a grand scale. Over the past few days, we did just that. Operation BROADSIDE attacked Reapers all over the galaxy, and we made them take notice. They expected to fight asari on Thessia, turians on Palaven, batarians on Khar’shan, but what they got was turian bombardments covering vorcha troops using human tactics in asari streets. It was perhaps due to this complexity that BROADSIDE did not go as planned. We sought a way to defeat a numerically superior ground force with little loss of life, but there was no sure strategy to adopt. When we innovate, our enemy adapts. Yes, we’ve seen losses, but a war worth fighting does not come without a cost. Take inspiration in that. I know it is discouraging to fight for alien real estate when we have not yet taken the battle to your own homeworld. Operational secrecy prevents me from saying exactly when we will deploy and in what strength. All I can say to those who are waiting is one word: Soon.

They deleted the post 40 minutes after it was created. We're still not sure why.

Curious, this is what really makes me want to see a meter of some type that would chart each Full extraction so we can see how we are doing in real time and not subject to BW telling us yea or nay. This operation botched up from the gate from there misinformation to start with, who side are they on anyway, why no correction on the time question when people where asking? The moderate this board they saw the question about the time and full squad extractions.

Still doesn't help that us PS3 players don't have a notification screen telling us the event is live, and Bioware refuses to comment on if there ever will be one...

Not only were we unaware of the full extraction until a day into the operation, but the forum post had the WRONG ENDING TIME by almost 20 hours, it says 10am PST SUNDAY, but the BLOG says 4am PST MONDAY. Really, so we don't know what we are doing or what time it ends???

ALRIGHTY THEN.

Feels like this whole event was a mess :
1) It forced people who were *not* ready for Gold, into gold, wth?
2) Only halfway through the event we were told the allied goal was a 'full extraction'
3) Reapers on Gold, seriously? how about we fix the issues with Reapers first eh? Banshee Magnet hands, Banshee teleporting through solid walls, i cant count the amount of cheap kills i had to endure this event.

In short the game is supposed to be fun, i dont mind if it's challenging, but make it a fun challenge for everyone, this one was too much for alot of people, and the gold matches i did showed it, which ledt to alot of frustrations, just read the forums and the many posts about Banshee's.

In short, alot of things could have been done 'better' with this whole event, let's just hope the next one will be more smooth and will take in consideration not everyone is a gold or by then platinum player.
(P.S. I play Gold mostly myself, i just seen too many people not ready for this struggle tremendously this weekend.)

Man, that's harsh. They only had 3 weeks since the last event to sort out the bugs. Of COURSE the next one will be run better....in 2 weeks...unless they decide to make up another holiday weekend that interferes with it that is.

Not sayin'....just sayin' is all.

Wana bet BW comes up with a Hacket post about the Intelligence of "Military Intelligence" and blame it on fog of war / reaper hacked database and we actually won?

I still say that these events, without a transparent way to view progress of goal achievement just feels too much like the results are all fake and it is up to BW to decide if or not, we actually succeeded regardless of actual data.

We could have failed miserably and they say "we won" just to hand out stuff to keep people playing, or on the flip side, we actually won against a "designed for failure" event but because "artistic integrity" needs a failure so, we failed.

One thing is clear: Bioware one more time trolling players...

Other sure thing: Alied goal was announced to be any extraction on any level - today I saw that someone of BW responded to someones question somewhere that full extraction was needed, haaa, WHAT please? Go and keep trolling...

...Like announce/release a laughable UR particle rifle just a week before Earth DLC comes out, so big amounts of horded credits (for earth DLC) would be spent to get it. This way people will spend lots of real money to get the new content/characters when the Earth DLC comes out. So smart BioWare Image IPB

I love Bioware, really.
I love so much Mass Effect trilogy and this multiplayer.
No problem with use market strategy, they need money to delivery great products. No problem to me that.

But I was upset this time too. No clarification about full extraction. I lost my friday night and saturday helping allied goal. I wasn´t worry about full extractions, so wave 11 I was focused at least one member to be extracted. I dont used medigel or trying hard to save a downed teammate.
So I concluded 40/50 matches, but very few full extractions, I think 8/10.

This was a badly designed operation in my opinion because the goal was unclear from the start and it forced people to play on a difficulty lower than the one they usually play foran extended period of time. I usually play gold but this weekend i played almost exclusively bronze reaper matches to go for the community goal. There were way too many preple getting banshee grabbed on wave 11 silver so full extraction was very rare. Of course the people who didnt get grabbed extracted. Geth would have been a better faction for this type of op.
Imho a good op should still let people play on whatever difficulty they want for the community goal at least. Its fine for an individual goal that you have to do only once to be on a specific difficulty level.

Nearly every match I did all weekend (whether Bronze, Silver or Gold) has someone who got themselves sync killed at the round 11 extraction.

Same here. Usually it was the person camping out at the landing zone but I didn't worry because I didn't think the operation required full extractions until Sunday afternoon. So I played a handful of bronze matches and sweated every time a banshee got near someone on wave 11.

The fix was in before the event started. The fact that the reward was something great (Max Medi Gel 6), as opposed to a thrilling opportunity to upgrade your Eagle was a dead giveaway. We weren't supposed to get this one. So the one clarification that was posted was buried in the thread, rather than edited into the original post. Then the whole end-time snafu, also not corrected in the forum post. So whatever. The moral of the story is, don't bother trying to win the Community Goal the weekend before a DLC release, and DEFINITELY not when the Community reward looks nice.

We don't get this one i'll never do more than the one requirement to get the commendation

Not the best way to hype dlc launch by saying on you won't get the bonus even though we worded it vaguely and the times were confusing based on where you read about it

Only for the squad goal, which out of the whole weekend, I had a wipe out on wave 9, 5 partials  and 15 full extracts with 10 different random teams. The community one could have been gotten on any difficulty. which I knocked about 5 out solo on bronze, as it took between 15-18mins per game.

2) Only halfway through the event we were told the allied goal was a 'full extraction'

As they say, the devil is in the details, and it does specificly say squads, which means, get out with the same amount of people that started (unless there is a drop out, then you have to make it with what's left)

3) Reapers on Gold, seriously? how about we fix the issues with Reapers first eh? Banshee Magnet hands, Banshee teleporting through solid walls, i cant count the amount of cheap kills i had to endure this event.

They've been able to go through walls and up levels since the last DLC....... but I completely agree with the magnet hands, I haven't been pulled from so far away so many times in the last couple of months till this weekend hit, and it also seemed to me, there were a lot more banshees then usual.

In short the game is supposed to be fun, i dont mind if it's challenging, but make it a fun challenge for everyone, this one was too much for alot of people, and the gold matches i did showed it, which ledt to alot of frustrations, just read the forums and the many posts about Banshee's.

Got to agree with these last two points, hopefully it's an experenice that everyone can learn from.....hopefully!

I did a bunch of bronze farming with about 30 full extractions. We had one guy step out of the zone two games in a row seconds before the clock ran down and he got booted before the third game.

Historically, many battles have been lost due to unclear orders or objectives. Food for thought, admiral? :)

No one was forced to do anything... maybe you meant the squad goal lured people into Gold but if people behave stupidly out of greed then I won't blame it on BioWare. 1-2 weeks after I started playing MP, there was the "allied goal = kill X million Banshees/squad goal = extract on Gold" operation ; I didn't even try the squad goal because I knew I wasn't ready for it and didn't want to ruin it for anyone else. I went and killed Banshees on Bronze happily.

Halfway through ? How about you get your facts straight ? Derek's post was made before the operation even started.
Now, I agree with you the communication should have been done better, like updating Chris Priestly's post + the blog post for example.

These issues have been there for ages and haven't prevented Gold-ready players to extract successfully. Then again, it's only the squad goal and hasn't much to do with failing or succeeding the whole event.

Honestly, I do believe BioWare's communication has room for improvement but overall I think people should wonder if they did the right things themselves if they ended up frustrated.

Here is what we need:
Clear, unchanging expectations of each challenge.
Better rewards for ridiculous challenges (I actually liked this one though, it was a good reward.)
Some sort of chart that we can check our progress with.

Going back to weekly challenges would be nice too, but, at the very least, we need a counter.
