I've never been yelled at during a match ..ever. Which isn't to say that it doesn't happen. If I were I know exactly what to do (player review...avoid avoid avoid). But I'd just say, that while I don't think gaming just attract social rejects that there IS probably a high number of social rejects that like to game. I'd draw you a venn diagram but I'm too lazy.
People are crazy on the PC too..and I'm sure PSN. People are probably more likely to have a headset for XBL though.

There is a reason I don't ever play online games on xbox. I play one PC, and can honestly say I have never even once had someone become verbally abusive or even annoying since the game was released. Unfortunately I don't think there really is any practical solution to this other than muting people. As previously stated in this thread, the anonymity afforded in a game like this brings out the worst in people at times.

I don't know how it is on PS3 or PC, but on XBL, there are some truly terrible people on there.  During matches, it is not uncommon to have someone get on the mic and literally start cursing at you for being a "(expletive) moron" or "retard." or whatever.  I have a thick skin but it does get a little tiresome to have to constantly mute people.   I'm not into reporting either, because it's just a game, but jeez, the level of venom and just all around atrocious behavior on Xbox makes me want to only play games on my PC forever.

Anyone else notice this, or was it just a bad weekend?

You'd think they'd be used to playing with skilless morons (not saying you are one, just speaking in broad terms) by that point, they are playing on a console after all.

Why aren't you into reporting people?  It's just a game to you and most normal people out there, but reporting someone is like playing a second game that's almost as fun!

I didn't run into any uneducated kids playing ME3, but I'm pretty sure there are some out there...

Lulzy.

To the OP that definitely sucks. I have to contrast it by saying that, when I enter a group using mics, they are usually pretty chill, and sometimes downright fun as hell. Luck of the draw I guess.

Guess it all just depends. Maybe I just had a run of bad luck and got some really crappy lobbies.

Never had those problems in ME3. Saw it all the time in the CoD-variants though.

The only thing you will hear me is either a sigh when I need to resurrect you or a sigh when I need to be resurrected.

I've been playing on live for seven years. It's been a sad ride watching it devolve over that time as it gained population and popularity. Multiplayer back in the halo 2 era was an actual friendly affair. These days, it's hit and miss sometimes. It's not even kids or anything, it's just people in general. Adults, kids, men and ladies.

Here is the problem with your analogy. We have no control over the wetness of water.

There's idiots on every single gaming platform out there. The Xbox just has the biggest population. So your chances of running into idiot kids is much higher. Although it really depends on the time you get on too. If you get on around the time when schools are letting out, then don't be surprised at who you run into on there.

LOL.

- But yes, there are. It's not platform specific, jerks are jerks. I've been relatively lucky on ME MP (only once was I called something that rhymed with runt) and met a lot of laid back very nice people randomly or here on the forums. If I had to guess, XBL just contains more people with headsets that they don't know how to turn the mic off.

It's not like that on PC.  It is actually rare to find a person with a mic that uses it and when they do they are 99% of the time saying something helpful or making a funny comment.  I had one guy the other day playing a Krogan and whatever his Krogan would say he would repeat into the mic in the same voice.  It was hilarious becuase he sounded just like the Krogan.

I've never really noticed this in Mass Effect - barely anyone (including me) talks at all. Halo, CoD, etc, sure.

Maybe it's a time zone thing. I'm Scottish, so I'll likely be on at different times than most Americans, Asians, etc. Though I can't think why Europe would have a lower proportion of idiot mic users...Maybe I'm just lucky?

PC is nice and quiet. In fact, from what i experienced, if anyone talks, one or more will probably leave the lobby.

PC is real quiet on PUG matches. I only ever mic it in private matches. I sold my 360 last year because of this behavior online. I haven't looked back.

I think I've only met a couple of bad apples like that in public games, and un-friended two of the forum members that were particularly douchy.

Haha. Yeah, pretty much this.

I don't know why but playing games on the internet introduces you to the worst people humanity has to offer. I thought being openly racist and homophobic stopped being acceptable in like the 1940's...until I started playing World of Warcraft.

You can see these kinds of players on youtube. Most under the age of 15. Been this way since xbl came to be.

Then again, I hardly ever play with randoms. Too busy playing with BSN members.

Laughed my Aft off when i first started playing MP....some pathetic N7 2000-odd idiot kept screaming down his mic because he couldn't steal my kills on FFG.  He was the type that was an human infiltrator with a level X Widow, who watched us low-ranking players like a hawk as we weakened our Geth enemies, before picking them off for some cheap points.<_< After the match, he boasted how he was so-called "greater" than the rest of us... So we booted the aft-hole!:) Revenge of the low-rankers!!!
